Golden Visas and Golden passports have become the hottest buzzwords in the world of the ultra-wealthy. But are they really the golden ticket to global opportunities, or just another flashy trend that will fade away? Let's break it down. First, what exactly is a Golden Visa? It&rsquo;s a special residency program that lets you live in a country by making a large investment&mdash;whether that&rsquo;s buying property or starting a business. And if that&rsquo;s not enough, there&rsquo;s also the Golden Passport. Full citizenship in exchange for an even bigger investment. A recent report by Henley &amp; Partners reveals the hottest destinations for Golden Visa investments. These include Malta, Spain, Montenegro, Antigua &amp; Barbuda, Grenada, and Portugal. These are the go-to spots where High Net Worth Individuals are pouring in their cash to secure that second passport or golden visas. But here&rsquo;s the big question&hellip; do countries really need more people?Take Greece, for example. A country, that has a struggling economy and a housing crisis. Greece&rsquo;s Golden Visa Programme, launched in 2013, offered residency or citizenship in exchange for a minimum investment of 250,000 euros in real estate, government bonds or other approved vehicles. However, this program underwent a revamp as of 1st September, more than doubling the minimum investment required to qualify for a visa through real estate purchases. Indian investors rushed to buy properties ahead of this revamp, leading to a 37% surge in sales between July and August.But it&rsquo;s not just about boosting economies. The UAE&rsquo;s Golden Visa program took a unique approach, granting 10-year visas to doctors and experts who played a key role during the pandemic. This was the first of its kind in the Gulf, a region where residency rules are typically strict. And now, countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar are following suit to diversify their economies.Of course, it&rsquo;s not all smooth sailing. In 2022, Bulgaria and Malta suspended their Golden Passport programs for Russians and Belarusians, following the Ukraine invasion. Spain scrapped its Golden Visa scheme earlier this year, which had allowed investors to gain residency with a &euro;500,000 property investment. Spain took this step to combat skyrocketing property prices, making it harder for locals&mdash;especially young people&mdash;to find affordable housing.Between 2011 and 2019, more than 130,000 people obtained a Golden Passport or Visa, generating &euro;21.8 billion for European countries. However, recent years have seen a shift, with Southern European nations tightening or ending these programs altogether to ease housing market pressures.For example, Portugal ended its Golden Visa program in early 2023 due to surging house prices. And Greece recently raised its required investment to as high as &euro;800,000. In 2019, Brussels urged member states to crack down on Golden Visa schemes, citing their role in benefiting wealthy Chinese and Russian investors, and highlighting the potential for corruption and money laundering. A video of a passport repurposed as a phone book and ledger has gone viral, sparking amusement and concern about potential legal repercussions.

A video of a passport being used as a phone book/ ledger has caught the attention of people. This video was shared on X on Thursday and it has amassed a number of views there.&nbsp;
In the video, a person is seen turning the pages of the passport which is used for visa stamps. However, the person was surprised and found out that these pages were used to write phone numbers. On the back of the passport, it was also seen that some calculations were done there too.&nbsp;
As internet users came across the video, they reacted by saying that it was quite hilarious. Others said that imagine someone travels with this passport and an immigration officer had to stamp it.&nbsp;
Some people also pointed out that misuse of a passport is a crime. The internet users wondered if the person who used this passport as a phone book faced any penal action.&nbsp;

For the first time in five years, Japan has lost its number-one ranking, dropping to third place on the list&nbsp;

Singapore has replaced Japan for having the world&rsquo;s most powerful passport, allowing visa-free entry to 192 global destinations, according to the latest Henley Passport Index.
Meanwhile, Germany, Italy, and Spain all move up into second place with allowing visa-free entry to 192 global destinations.&nbsp;
After five years at the top, Japan dropped to third place as the number of destinations its passport can access without a visa fell, Bloomberg reported. Japan also shares its position with Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea and Sweden.&nbsp; &nbsp; The US, which once topped the ranking nearly a decade ago, slid two places to eighth place. The UK, after a Brexit-induced slump, jumped two places to fourth, a position it last held in 2017.&nbsp; Coming to home, India, on the other hand, improved its position by 5 spots from last year and is currently ranked 80th on the index along with Togo and Senegal, with visa-free access to 57 countries.&nbsp;&nbsp;
At the bottom of the list is Afghanistan with easy access to 27 destinations. Yemen (99), Pakistan (100), Syria (101) and Iraq (102) round up the bottom five.&nbsp;

"We will soon be embarking on Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0, including new and upgraded e-passports," Jaishankar said in his message on Passport Seva Kendra.

India will soon embark on the second phase of the Passport Seva Programme (PSPVersion 2.0), which includes new and upgraded e-passports, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on the occasion of Passport Seva Divas.
Jaishankar called on passport-issuing authorities in India and abroad to join him in renewing the pledge to provide passport and related services to people in a "timely, reliable, accessible, transparent and efficient manner."
"We will soon be embarking on Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0, including new and upgraded e-passports," Jaishankar said in his message on Passport Seva Kendra.
He further stated, "In line with the Prime Minister's vision of enhancing the 'Ease of Living' for citizens, these initiatives will usher in a new paradigm of 'EASE": E: Enhanced passport services to citizens, using a digital eco-system A: Artificial Intelligence-powered service delivery S: Smoother overseas travel using chip-enabled e-passports E: Enhanced data security."
Jaishankar in his message stated, "I would like to call on all our passport issuing authorities in India and abroad to join me in renewing our pledge to provide passport and related services to citizens in a timely, reliable, accessible, transparent and efficient manner."
While sharing Jaishankar's message on Twitter, the Ministry of External Affairs stated, "Here is a message from EAM @DrSJaishankar, as we observe the Passport Seva Divas today. #TeamMEA reaffirms its commitment to provide passport and related services to citizens in a timely, reliable, accessible, transparent and efficient manner."
