A longitudinal study of 200 participants that started way back in 1998 has found that a youngster&rsquo;s relationship with their friends is a better predictor of their&nbsp;future outcomes than the relationship they share with their parents.

For the study published in&nbsp;the journal Child Development, scientists surveyed participants on their&nbsp;social relationships, the quality of their romantic relationships, depressive symptoms and work performance.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Comparing this data against answers from the same person&rsquo;s childhood, it was clear that&nbsp;good teen friendships lead to success later in life.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Predictably, the reverse was also true. People&nbsp;who&nbsp;did not have good, quality, best-friend relationships as teens had poorer work performance as 25-27-year-olds.
They were also predisposed to have&nbsp;worse-quality romantic relationships and were more likely to be depressed.
All in all, the findings should prompt parents to stop labelling children&rsquo;s focus on their friendships as trivial or silly, says the team.&nbsp;

<li>In an uncertain world, a little bit of structure and routine can be great. Work together to create a schedule and be&nbsp;consistent to build some sense of control.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Lastly, know when to seek additional help. If you know a child is struggling,&nbsp;don&rsquo;t be afraid to reach out to a professional.</li>

Based on anonymised medical records from&nbsp;the SAIL databank, it was found that children were&nbsp;more&nbsp;likely to develop depression if their mother had depression before their birth,&nbsp;after birth&nbsp;and&nbsp;most likely if the&nbsp;mother had depression&nbsp;both before and after birth.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The depression risk also increased if the father or man of the household had depression but the risk was higher with mothers.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The&nbsp;chances&nbsp;of&nbsp;inter-generational transmission of depression&nbsp;were&nbsp;also elevated with risk factors such as being female, the mother taking antidepressants and having no stable man in the household.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The team explained that while maternal depression is a known risk factor for children, the lockdown and Covid-19 have made it important&nbsp;to understand just how contagious the illness can be.

A growing number of American adults, who aren&rsquo;t already parents, see no point in making more humans, finds a new survey.&nbsp;
Around 44&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;of non-parents aged 18 to 49 say it&rsquo;s not too likely, or not at all likely for them to ever have children as per&nbsp;the&nbsp;Pew Research Centre report.&nbsp;This is an increase of 7&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;in the same group that was&nbsp;also&nbsp;surveyed in 2018.

While the childfree phenomenon isn't new, the pandemic may have brought more people into its fold.&nbsp;The outbreak&nbsp;has&nbsp;given people more time to rethink and reset their priorities. From&nbsp;cosmetics, biotechnology, washing products to drug capsules, microplastics can come from many industries. MPs are basically&nbsp;specks of synthetic material measuring&nbsp;less than 5 millimetres&nbsp;and you can find&nbsp;them&nbsp;on the highest of mountains&nbsp;to the bottom of the ocean.

To study microplastic presence, scientists studied poop samples&nbsp;of&nbsp;10 adults and six babies in America. They found at least one type of microplastic&nbsp;in every sample.&nbsp;So, even though adults bodies were also polluted with plastic, babies have at least 10 times more of the stuff, found the study published in&nbsp;Environmental Science &amp; Technology Letters.
