Time and again dentists have shared tips on how to take care of your teeth. Recently, a dentist named Wei Jian took to TikTok and revealed three common mistakes people make that could actually harm their teeth.
In his video, the dentist instructed viewers to stop nail-biting, teeth grinding and steer clear of toothpicks. These habits may lead to flat and sensitive teeth along with injured and receding gums.
Apart from this, dentists have also warned against consuming energy drinks and crushing ice with your teeth. Ice can fracture or break parts of your teeth as well as cause cracks in your enamel.

Mouthwash is an oral rinse which has become part of our regular life after brushing. And, if you think that mouthwash is good for oral hygiene then you're wrong. Here are some disadvantages of using mouthwash regularly.&nbsp;

<li>Both good and bad bacteria are present in our mouth and with mouthwash, good bacteria die which helps in digesting food.</li>
<li>Excessive use of mouthwash can cause dry mouth.</li>
<li>If you brush your teeth after using mouthwash, you can suffer from pain and sensitivity.</li>
<li>Your gums may bleed if you use too much mouthwash.</li>
<li>The use of mouthwash is not recommended for children below 6 years of age.</li>

<li>Use cold washed cloth and wrap it around your finger to clean your child&rsquo;s teeth</li>
<li>Opt for&nbsp;breastmilk popsicles when your child&rsquo;s mouth continues to develop</li>
<li>Use ice cubes wrapped in a soft cloth to prevent tooth decay</li>
<li>Feed them tooth-friendly foods and drinks such as frozen long slices of banana, apple or carrot</li>
<li>Go for good quality silicone teethers in case of dental emergencies</li>
</ul>
<h3>Things to keep in mind before&nbsp;introducing&nbsp;brushing/flossing:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Introduce a toothbrush at 6 months of age/ when your baby gets their first tooth</li>
<li>A minimum of 2 mins brushing time is advised</li>
<li>While introducing a toothbrush, small heads and soft bristles are recommended</li>
<li>As important as daily brushing and flossing is, it is also important to limit your child&rsquo;s sugary food and drinks intake, to decrease their risk of developing tooth decay</li>
<li>Feed your kids&nbsp;tooth-friendly foods like cheese, fruits and vegetables and if&nbsp;they consume&nbsp;starchy and sweet foods, ask them to brush their teeth about 30 mins later</li>

A latest research conducted by the University of Birmingham, found that daily oral health care could aid in the reduction of disease severity in those battling the&nbsp;COVID-19 infection. The researchers noted that the coronavirus could pass into people's lungs from the saliva, if individuals are suffering from gum disease.
For the study, investigators created a model using CT scans of lungs from patients who had confirmed COVID-19 infection.&nbsp;
The study published in the Journal of Oral Medicine and Dental Research, shows that there is emerging evidence that some mouthwashes are highly effective at inactivating the Covid-19 virus.
Experts recommended that the public should take simple measures to maintain their oral hygiene such as careful tooth brushing to reduce plaque build-up and use of mouthwashes or even saltwater rinsing to reduce gingival inflammation. These simple steps could help decrease the viral concentration in the saliva.

A person who has recently recovered from Covid-19 should change their toothbrush and tongue cleaner after 20 days of getting the first symptoms. This not only protects the person from chances of re-infection but can also save others who use the same washroom in the house. Covid-19 patients are advised to dry and disinfect their toothbrush and tongue cleaner.
One should also use mouthwash and do gargles using&nbsp;betadine&nbsp;as it helps in reducing the build-up of virus and bacteria in the mouth.
If someone in the family has contracted Covid-19, it is also important not to keep toiletry items (toothbrush, tongue cleaner, etc) of the household together as it increases the chances of transmission.
