Rain lashed several parts of Odisha, including the state's capital Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday as severe cyclone 'Montha' weakened into a cyclonic storm and was moving through neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, IMD said.&nbsp;
Several incidents of landslides, uprooting of trees, and damage to houses have been reported from various districts, an official at the Special Relief Commissioner&rsquo;s office said.
Light-to-moderate rain with wind speed ranging from 30 kmph to 40 kmph was recorded across the coastal belt, including Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts, in the state, the IMD bulletin said. The maximum of 105 mm rainfall has been recorded in Mayurbhanj district, followed by 93.5 mm in Balasore, 90 mm in Khurda and 74.4 mm in Chandbali, the bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Centre (IMD) said.
With the severe cyclone 'Montha' losing strength after its landfall on Tuesday evening in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre withdrew its 'red' (take action) and 'orange' (be prepared for action) alerts on the southern Odisha region and issued a fresh forecast. &ldquo;We have issued a 'yellow' warning (be aware) of heavy rainfall, very likely to occur at isolated places in Ganjam, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajpati, Kalahandi, and Nawarangpur districts,&rdquo; said Dr Manorama Mohanty, the director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
She said the forecast on the wind speed has also been revised. "Malkangiri and Koraput districts will experience surface wind in the range of 45 kmph to 55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, while the wind speed in Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur will be between 35 kmph and 45 kmph," Mohanty said.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had on Tuesday night reviewed the post-landfall situation of the cyclone and said 'Montha' had no major impact on Odisha. He, however, said that the deployment of rescue teams and other preparedness measures will continue till the system crosses the state during the day.
The IMD, in its latest bulletin, said, &ldquo;The cyclonic storm 'Montha' over coastal Andhra Pradesh moved nearly north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past six hours and lay centered (at 5.30 am) at about 80 km northwest of Narsapur (Andhra Pradesh), 230 km west-southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 460 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).&rdquo;
The system is likely to move north-northwestwards across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and weaken into a deep depression during the next three hours and into a depression during the subsequent six hours, the IMD said. It also said the movement of the cyclone is being closely monitored through Doppler Weather Radars (DWRs) located at Machilipatnam and Visakhapatnam, along with data from coastal observatories, automatic weather stations (AWS), ships, buoys, and satellites.
The authorities continue to monitor the weakening storm as it moves inland, bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds to several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, the IMD bulletin added.

Heavy rain with gale lashed Vijayawada city on Wednesday morning and a number of trees uprooted and many roads were inundated after severe cyclonic storm Montha crossed Andhra Pradesh coast near Narasapur in West Godavari district, south of Kakinada overnight, IMD said on Wednesday.
After crossing the coast, the weather system moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during the past six hours to weaken into a cyclonic storm, India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin issued at 5 am said.
"The latest observations indicate that the severe cyclonic storm Montha crossed Andhra Pradesh and Yanan coasts between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, south of Kakinada and close to Narsapur during midnight (11:30 pm of October 28 and 12:30 am of October 29)," IMD said in a release.
The landfall process lasted about five hours, starting around 7:30 pm on Tuesday and completing around 12:30 am on Wednesday, they added.
By 2.30 am on Wednesday, Montha, which means a fragrant flower in Thai, lay centred about 20 km west to northwest of Narasapur, 50 km northeast of Machilipatnam, 90 km west to southwest of Kakinada, 230 km southwest of Visakhapatnam and 470 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).
"It is likely to move northwestwards across coastal Andhra Pradesh and maintain its intensity of a cyclonic storm during the next six hours, and weaken further into a deep depression during subsequent six hours," said the Met Department.
The latest observations indicate that the rear sector of the Montha entered into the land, it said.
The Met Department forecast light to moderate rainfall likely at most places in Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and heavy to very rainfall at a few places till October 29.
Similarly, it predicted extremely heavy rainfall of greater than 20 cm at isolated places during the same period.
For October 30, it predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Rain lashed eight southern Odisha districts as cyclone 'Montha' in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Keeping in view the impending situation, the Odisha government has evacuated people from low-lying areas and hilly terrains prone to landslides in the eight districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal. It has also deployed 140 rescue teams (over 5,000 personnel) from the NDRF, ODRAF, and Fire Service.
The administration has already announced the closure of schools and anganwadi centres in nine districts till October 30, while the East Coast Railway has cancelled, diverted, or short-terminated several trains operating in the Waltair region and connected routes. The leave of government employees has also been cancelled till October 30.
All sea beaches have been sealed to prevent tourists and locals from entering, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) D K Singh said. People evacuated from vulnerable places are being housed in over 1,400 cyclone shelters opened across the eight districts, where food and other arrangements have been made. Pregnant women are also being shifted to nearby hospitals.
The state government has advised fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal along and off the Odisha coast till October 29. The weather agency has also suggested hoisting Local Cautionary Signal No-III (LC-III) at Gopalpur Port and Distant Warning Signal No-II (DW-II) at Paradip, Dhamra, Puri, Chhatrapur, and Chandbali ports of Odisha.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is likely to review the situation later in the day, an official said.
In its latest bulletin, the IMD said, &ldquo;The cyclonic storm 'Montha' over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during the past six hours, intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, and lay centred at 5.30 am about 190 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 270 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 340 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and 550 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).&rdquo;
Montha means &ldquo;fragrant flower&rdquo; or &ldquo;beautiful flower&rdquo; in the Thai language.
The system is likely to continue moving north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during the evening or night of Tuesday as a severe cyclonic storm, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90&ndash;100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph, said Dr. Manorama Mohanty, director of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
For Tuesday, the IMD issued a red warning (Take Action) as it forecast scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7&ndash;20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm) at places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Similarly, an orange warning (Be Prepared) for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7&ndash;20 cm) was issued for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Khurda, Puri, and Bargarh districts.
A yellow warning (Be Aware) of heavy rainfall (7&ndash;11 cm) was also forecast for Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundergarh districts.

The Odisha government has started evacuating people from vulnerable places and deployed 128 disaster response teams in eight southern districts of the state as the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal on Monday intensified into a cyclonic storm named 'Montha'.
Keeping in view the formation of cyclone 'Montha', the state government has started the evacuation of people from vulnerable hilly and low-lying areas of eight southern districts, which could be impacted due to the impending calamity, Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management minister Suresh Pujari said.
"The state government is well prepared to face the eventuality, and arrangements have been made in the possible impact areas. The administration will complete the process of evacuation of people from vulnerable places by 5 pm on Monday," the minister said.
Though the cyclone will cross the Andhra Pradesh Coast, it will have an impact on Odisha's southern and coastal regions, for which the state government has made all arrangements to save men and animals with a goal of 'zero casualty', Pujari said.
The minister said that 'red warning' (take action), predicting extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds (gusting up to 80 kmph), was issued for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts.
As a precautionary measure, the state government has deployed over 5,000 highly skilled personnel in 24 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), five from NDRF and 99 Fire Service teams in these eight districts, the minister said, adding all the districts of the state have been directed to get ready with men and machinery for rescue operations, if at all the impending cyclone changes its trajectory.
The minister said that though rainfall will begin on Monday, the intensity of rain and wind will intensify on October 28 and 29.
The weather office also hoisted Distant Cautionary Signal No-I (DC-1) at all ports of Odisha and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till October 29.
The IMD on its bulletin at 4 am of Monday said: "The cyclonic storm 'Montha' over Southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved with a speed of 16 kmph during past 3 hours and lay centered at 2.30 am on October 27, at about 600 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 710 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 790 km west of Port Blair (Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands), and 850 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha)."
"It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards over the Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of 28th October. It is very likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during evening/night of 28th October as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph," the IMD said.

The Odisha government has asked all its departments, public and educational institutes and others to stop using the term 'harijan' in communications, officials said on Wednesday.
The government suggested the authorities concerned that words like 'scheduled caste' in English and 'anusuchita jati' in Odia or other national languages should be used to "denote persons belonging to scheduled castes as notified under Article 341 of the Constitution", according to a letter issued on August 12 by the commissioner-cum-secretary of the ST and SC Development, Minorities and Backward Class Welfare Department.
The letter was sent to all the additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, and commissioner-cum-secretaries, the officials said.
"They have been instructed to ensure that the word 'harijan' does not appear in any official communications, records, transactions, caste certificates, publications, departmental names, or any other form of use," one of the officials said.
The authorities concerned are also directed to educate their staff and update existing documents and records accordingly, he said.
They are also told to submit a compliance report on the action taken on the matter, another official said.
The state government's action came in the wake of the guidelines issued by the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), prohibiting the use of the word &lsquo;harijan&rsquo;.
These guidelines will be strictly enforced in all government offices, the official said.
In 1982, the Centre had asked all state governments not to use the term 'harijan' to refer to Dalits.
Following fresh guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, a similar order was also issued in 2013 to all the states, directing them to ensure non-use of the 'harijan' word not only in caste certificates but also in official communications, the officials said.
The Odisha Assembly has also prohibited the use of the word 'harijan', they said.

The initiative is a joint collaboration between the Agriculture and Farmers&rsquo; Empowerment Department of Odisha, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Migrant Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MMTF), officials said.
Speaking on this occasion, Singh Deo, who is also the chairman of the high-level task force formed by the state government to check distress migration, said the state is conducting various livelihood development programmes for women, youth, and migrant workers who have returned.
"Our efforts have started to make them self-reliant by providing employment in their own areas. Today's mobile migrant resource centre will help curb distressed migration and will make people aware of it," he said.
For this, a toll-free migration resources centre helpline number- 1800-345-7885 has been issued by the government. Migrants can dial this number in any emergency situation, an official said.
"It will support potential migrants and help develop a structured framework for helping migrants and frame sustainable solutions to migration challenges," said Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Department, Arabinda Kumar Padhee.

Two men were arrested in Odisha's Balasore district for allegedly instigating a 20-year-old college student to commit self-immolation, police said on Monday.
The Crime Branch of the state police apprehended the two late on Sunday in connection with the death of the woman last month, a senior officer said.
The woman student of the Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore had set herself on fire as her complaint of sexual harassment was &ldquo;not validated&rdquo; by an internal enquiry committee of the institute, the police had said.
"The arrested persons are Jyoti Prakash Biswal, a student of the college, who had sustained burn injuries in an attempt to save the woman, and Subhra Sambait Nayak, the state joint secretary of a student organisation," the officer said.
Biswal was recently discharged from the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack after recovering from burn injuries.
They were picked up from their residences late on Sunday, the officer said.
Earlier, Samira Kumar Sahoo, an assistant professor of the college, and ex-principal of the institute, Dillip Ghose, were arrested on charges of abetment of suicide.
The police said that Biswal and Nayak, the two arrested persons, were produced before the residential office of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Balasore, on Sunday night, and were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days after their bail petitions were rejected.
The woman student had on July 12 poured petrol on her body and set herself on fire for allegedly being denied justice in a sexual harassment case against the head of the department (HoD) of Integrated BEd.
She sustained 95 per cent burn injuries and died on the night of July 14 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, the police had said.&nbsp;

After the incident came to the notice of the department, the official said immediate steps have been taken to retrieve the Instagram account. The Instagram account has been retrieved by the Higher Education Department, and the posts not related to the department have been removed, he said.
"We have taken this incident seriously and have decided to file an FIR in this regard," the official said.
A report from Cuttack said that the official website of Ravenshaw University has been hacked.&nbsp;

The BJD&rsquo;s demonstration turned violent near the Lower PMG Square when its workers and leaders breached a barricade to march towards the state secretariat, Lok Seva Bhavan, and clashed with the police personnel, an officer said.
The police used water cannons and fired tear gas shells to disperse the agitating BJD workers, he said.
"BJD workers were later arrested and taken away from the agitation site," the officer said.
Among the injured persons were former ministers Pranab Prakash Das and Priti Ranjan Gharai.
Gharai was initially taken to Capital Hospital here and later shifted to the ICU of the Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, a party functionary said.
Das was taken to a private hospital, he said.
The BJD held the protest, demanding a judicial inquiry into the death of the college student, who set herself on fire over alleged denial of justice in a sexual harassment incident.
Security was strengthened at the Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar in view of the BJD's protest over the college student's death in Balasore district.
Security was also tightened in other government buildings in the city, including Rajiv Bhavan and Kharavela Bhavan, which are located in the vicinity of the state secretariat, police said.
Police Commissioner S Dev Datt Singh was present near the Lok Seva Bhavan to oversee the security arrangements.
Earlier, employees were allowed to enter the secretariat after thorough verification of their identities, officials said.
Entry of visitors has also been restricted, they said, adding that people having prior appointments were, however, being issued entry passes on the recommendation of the departments concerned.

The second-year B.Ed student of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College died at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on Monday night after fighting for her life for three days. She had set herself on fire on the college campus on Saturday over alleged inaction against a professor who sexually harassed her.
"Spoke with the father of the brave daughter who lost her life in the fight for justice in Balasore, Odisha. In his voice, I felt his daughter's pain, dreams, and struggle, assured him that the Congress and I stand with them at every step," Gandhi posted on X.
"What happened is not only inhuman and shameful but a wound to the entire society. We will ensure in every way that the victim's family receives full justice," he added.
The opposition led by Congress has called for an Odisha bandh on July 17, demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident.
State Congress president Bhakta Charan Das met the victim's family on Tuesday.
All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba has also arrived in the state to meet the family.

Armed with party flags, hundreds of BJD members blocked major roads of the district by burning tyres.
The traffic on the national highway passing through the district is also being regulated in view of the protests, police said.
Apart from Balasore town, BJD workers were holding demonstrations in places like Jaleswar, Basta, Soro, Baliapal and Bhograi since morning.
"People are very angry over the denial of justice to the student who ultimately set herself on fire and died," said BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra.
"The party will continue the agitation across the state till the BJP government announces a judicial probe into the incident," he said.
The protestors were also demanding the resignation of Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, accusing them of failing to provide justice to the 20-year-old student.
The principal of the college and the accused professor have been arrested by the police.

"The law will take its toughest course. Those responsible will face uncompromising punishment. My heart goes out to the grieving family. May they find strength in this hour of unbearable pain," he added.
The second-year B.Ed student died on Monday night at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar after fighting for her life for three days.
She set herself on fire on the campus on Saturday over alleged inaction against a professor who allegedly sexually harassed her. She had suffered 95 per cent burns.

Hospital officials said there were no signs of improvement since Saturday evening. The woman's kidneys, respiratory tract and lungs are severely affected due to the fire and smoke inhalation, Dr Ashutosh Biswas, executive director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, said.
Treating doctor Sanjay Giri said that they have started dialysis of the student. He said the treatment is being carried out in consultation with experts of AIIMS, Delhi. Hospital sources said that the patient&rsquo;s potassium levels had dropped dangerously low, for which essential vitamins and micronutrients are being administered to her.
"We are also closely monitoring her blood sugar levels. Her internal organs have been severely impacted. We are offering round-the-clock and the best treatment facilities to her," the doctor said.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday after visiting the student at the hospital had said, "The condition of the student is critical. She is being provided the treatment akin to that available in AIIMS, Delhi. A medical team is formed for her treatment. The government will consider airlifting the patient after her condition stabilises." Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik also said: "I fervently pray to Lord Jagannatha for her swift recovery from the grievous burn injuries." "In the early days, the sweet was known as 'Khira Mohan' in the temple. It is the same as rasagolla," said researcher Asit Mohanty, who was instrumental in collecting evidence tracing rasagolla's origin to the Puri temple.
"Our rasagolla is totally different from that of Bengal. Bengal's rasagolla came into existence in 1868, while the sweet originated here over 500 years ago. There is mention of rasagolla in the Dani Ramayan written by Balaram Das," he asserted.
Maintaining that for centuries devotees have offered rasagolla to Lord Jagannath on 'Niladri Bije', Mohanty said there should be no debate on its origin.
"Let Bengal enjoy its rasagolla and we ours," he said.
People across the state exchange rasagolla to celebrate the day, with sweet shops doing brisk business.
A special function was organised at Pahala, a village along the highway between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where a slew of sweet shops specialising in rasagolla are located.
Noted sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik shared a photo of his creation celebrating the occasion on X.

A total of six persons have so far been arrested, including Pradhan, police said.

OAS officers across the state were on a &lsquo;mass leave&rsquo; following the &ldquo;assault&rdquo; on Sahoo.
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said Pradhan was arrested on the basis of an FIR, and statements of Sahoo and the accused persons.

The devotees are having a smooth 'darshan' of the sibling deities - Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath - at Shree Gundicha Temple for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, the SJTA official said.
Preparations are on to turn the chariots southwards (Dakhina Moda) for the 'Bahuda Yatra' on July 5, he said.
The three majestic chariots - Taladwaj (Lord Balabhadra), Darpadalan (Devi Subhadra) and Nandighosh (Lord Jagannath) are now parked at 'Saradhabali' (the sacred sand bed) in front of Shree Gundicha Temple, considered as the birthplace of the deities. They will be turned around for the return car festival, the official said.
He said that on-duty police personnel and a handful of servitors will drag the chariot and keep them at the proper place before they are pulled to the 12th-century shrine during Bahuda Yatra on July 5. "Today, after the 'Sakaladhupa' (morning food) ritual, the chariot will be pulled after the 'Agyanmala' (permission garland) come from the deities the chariots would take 'Dakhina Moda'. Three 'Agnya Mala' (garlands) have meanwhile reached the chariots. It gives me immense satisfaction to be part of the Rath Yatra rituals," said Madhav Pujapanda, who carried the 'Agnya Mala' from Shree Gundicha Temple to chariots.
In the series, first, the Devadalan chariot of Devi Subhadra will be pulled, followed by the Taladhwaja chariot of Lord Balabhadra and finally the Nandighosh chariot of Jagannath to reach in front of the 'Nakachana Dwara' for forward pulling on July 5th.
According to mythology, the three-day 'Rasalila' (fun game) will begin at Shree Gundicha Temple on Wednesday. Lord Jagannath would perform 'Rasalila' with 'Gopis' (women followers of Lord Krishna).

"The way in which our senior officer was dragged from the office and assaulted despite the presence of security guards, we are all shocked and are feeling insecure in the office," a woman employee of the BMC said.
BMC commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil said, "Our officers and employees are hurt by the unfortunate incident which happened in our office on Monday. They are staging a protest over the incident." To ensure that such incidents do not recur in future, the BMC will take steps to enhance the security arrangements and maintain a protocol within the office premises, he said.
Sanitation workers in Bhubaneswar have called off their services in various parts of Bhubaneswar in protest against the assault on the additional commissioner of the BMC. The workers demanded the immediate arrest of all accused in the incident.
Due to the 'cease work&rsquo; protest by the sanitation workers, cleanliness activities have been stopped and garbage has not been cleared.

Earlier, the association of Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officers had decided to put their 'mass leave' protest on hold after they got an assurance from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi that strong action will be taken against all culprits involved in the alleged assault of their senior colleague, an official said on Tuesday.

On the appeal of Majhi, the association decided not to proceed on leave or take any such measures, Mishra said.
"Hence, in reverence to the CM's appeal, the mass leave from July 1 is not called off but is hereby postponed," he said.
However, despite their apex body's decision to defer the 'mass leave' agitation, OAS officers in 10 districts, including Cuttack, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Bolangir, Sonepur, Rayagada and Mayurbhanj, went on 'cease work'.
Meanwhile, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das demanded the immediate arrest of all the remaining accused and also the conspirator who had allegedly sent them to assault the OAS officer.
"This was not the first case of an assault on an officer in Odisha. Several such cases have been reported in the recent past. The BMC additional commissioner was thrashed as he did not invite an unelected BJP leader to the public grievance meeting," Das alleged.
Ruling party leaders are being invited as guests at government programmes, which has set a wrong trend in the state. As the chief minister is at the helm of the government machinery in the state, he should take responsibility and seek an apology from all officers, Das said.
The government also needs to take corrective measures by issuing necessary circulars or advisories mentioning who can visit the public offices and attend government programmes, he said.
Senior BJD leader and Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das said, "The video footage submitted by us shows that there were 6 to 7 hooligans who brutally attacked our officer inside the BMC office. However, only 3 people have been arrested till now." The police should take exemplary action in this case. They should find out who the mastermind behind this attack is, she said.
The mayor sought the personal intervention of the chief minister in this matter.
BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan said, "I condemn the incident. Whatever happened was very sad. The police, on the direction of the CM, have taken necessary actions. But the BJD is using this issue to further their agenda." Pradhan has also alleged that the BMC additional commissioner had misbehaved with him and a woman sanitation worker.
On the other hand, the BJP has suspended five of its members, including corporator Apurup Narayan Rout, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, Sachikanta Swain and Sanjeev Mishra for their alleged involvement in the assault case.
