Curtailing the central probe agency&rsquo;s powers to probe cases in the state, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday withdrew the 'general consent' granted to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The probe agency will now have to approach the Uddhav government for permission to initiate the investigation on a case by case basis. The development comes a after the CBI registered an FIR in the TRP &lsquo;scam&rsquo; case based on a reference from the Uttar Pradesh Police. The case, which was earlier registered at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow on a complaint of an advertising company promoter, was handed over to the CBI by the UP government. On October 8, the Mumbai police had claimed it had busted a 'racket' of 'fraudulent' manipulation of Television Rating Points involving three channels including Arnab Goswami&rsquo;s Republic TV.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising who appeared on behalf of some intervenors told the Supreme Court that fair investigation warrants protection of the victim&rsquo;s family and witnesses in the case. The UP govt however argued that the family was already under protection. The SC&nbsp;asked&nbsp;UP govt to submit a report by October 8.&nbsp;&nbsp;
While saying it will&nbsp;it will ensure that the&nbsp;probe&nbsp;is smooth in the case, the&nbsp;SC&nbsp;bench&nbsp;of&nbsp;Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A&nbsp;S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian&nbsp;also asked to know if the victim&rsquo;s family had chosen a lawyer. &nbsp;

China can't get better of us: IAF Chief Bhadauria assures

Referring to the border standoff with China in eastern Ladakh, IAF chief RKS Bhadauria on Monday assured air force has been deployed &lsquo;strongly &amp; firmly to handle any contingency&rsquo;. Addressing a press conference ahead of Air Force Day on October 8, Bhadauria said Chinese air power can't get the better of India's capabilities but at the same time added that there is no question of underestimating the adversary. He also added that the IAF is prepared to deal with a two-front war along the northern and western borders if such a scenario arises. India and China are locked in a five-month-long bitter border standoff. Though both sides have held a series of diplomatic and military talks to resolve the row, no breakthrough has been achieved.

Dinesh Khara could be the next SBI Chairman

The Banks Board Bureau, which is entrusted with the task of the selection of the chiefs of public sector banks and insurance companies, has recommended Dinesh Kumar Khara as the next Chairman of State Bank of India.
Khara, who is currently a managing director at the bank, will take over as chairman on October 8 once the government approves the selection. The tenure of Rajnish&nbsp;Kumar who was appointed for a period of three years in 2017 will end on October 7, this year.
Khara joined SBI as a probationary officer in 1984 and has over 35 years of experience in the banking industry.
