Nobel Prize economics: Harvard professor Claudia Goldin has won the Nobel Prize in Economics 2023, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on October 9. The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences, which is awarded in memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded for her comprehensive research of women's contribution to the labour market.&nbsp;
The prize is worth 11 million Swedish crowns ($999,137). The first Nobel Prize in Economics was first awarded in 1969. Goldin is the third women to win this prestigious award in Economics.

Claudia Goldin is the Henry Lee Professor of Economics at Harvard University and was the director of the NBER&rsquo;s Development of the American Economy program from 1989 to 2017. She is a co-director of the NBER's Gender in the Economy group.&nbsp;
An economic historian and a labor economist, Goldin's research covers a wide range of topics, including the female labor force, the gender gap in earnings, income inequality, technological change, education, and immigration.
Goldin is best known for her historical work on women in the U.S. economy. Her most influential papers in that area have concerned the history of women&rsquo;s quest for career and family, coeducation in higher education, the impact of the &ldquo;Pill&rdquo; on women&rsquo;s career and marriage decisions, women&rsquo;s surnames after marriage as a social indicator, the reasons why women are now the majority of undergraduates, and the new lifecycle of women&rsquo;s employment.&nbsp;

 The Nobel Prize in literature has been awarded to Norwegian author Jon Fosse for “his innovative plays and prose, which give voice to the unsayable,” according to the Swedish Academy.

&nbsp;The Nobel Prize in literature has been awarded to Norwegian author Jon Fosse for &ldquo;his innovative plays and prose, which give voice to the unsayable,&rdquo; according to the Swedish Academy.

The Swedish Academy on Thursday awarded the Nobel Literature Prize to Norwegian playwright Jon Fosse, whose plays are among the most widely staged of any contemporary playwright in Europe.
He was honoured "for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable," the Swedish Academy said.
His writing is defined more by form than content, where what is not said is often more revealing than what is.
Often compared to Samuel Beckett, Fosse's work is minimalistic, relying on simple language which delivers its message through rhythm, melody and silence.
His major works include "Boathouse" (1989), which was well-received by critics, and "Melancholy" I and II (1995-1996).
Fosse, 64, had featured widely in Nobel speculation for several years.
"His immense oeuvre written in Norwegian Nynorsk (one of Norway's written forms of languages) and spanning a variety of genres consists of a wealth of plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children&rsquo;s books and translations", the jury said.
"While he is today one of the most widely performed playwrights in the world, he has also become increasingly recognised for his prose."
The Nobel Prize comes with a medal and a prize sum of 11 million Swedish kronor (about $1 million).
Last year, the award went to French feminist icon Annie Ernaux, known for her deceptively simple novels drawing on personal experiences of class and gender.
The Academy has long been criticised for the overrepresentation of Western white male authors among its picks.
The Swedish Academy has undergone major reforms since a devastating #MeToo scandal in 2018, vowing a more global and gender-equal literature prize.
Since the scandal, it has honoured three women -- Annie Ernaux, US poet Louise Gluck and Poland's Olga Tokarczuk -- and three men -- Austrian author Peter Handke, Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurnah and Fosse.
Fosse will receive the Nobel from King Carl XVI Gustaf at a formal ceremony in Stockholm on December 10, the anniversary of the 1896 death of scientist Alfred Nobel.

The Nobel Prize for Chemistry this year has been awarded to scientists Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus and Alexei I. Ekimov 'for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots', the Nobel Foundation announced on Wednesday.&nbsp;
As per the committee, In 1993, chemistry laureate Moungi Bawendi revolutionised the methods for manufacturing quantum dots, making their quality extremely high &ndash; a vital prerequisite for their use in today&rsquo;s nanotechnology.
In the early 1980s, this year&rsquo;s chemistry laureates Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov succeeded in creating &ndash; independently of each other &ndash; quantum dots, which are nanoparticles so tiny that quantum effects determine their characteristics.
The Nobel Prizes carry a cash award of 11 million Swedish kronor ($1 million). The money comes from a bequest left by the prize's creator, Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, who died in 1896.
