Thousands of people were on Tuesday ordered to evacuate floods-affected towns in the northern parts of Australia's most populous state.
Emergency crews continued their rescue efforts with residents stranded on roofs and on bridges in the towns of Woodburn and Lismore in New South Wales.
State Premier Dominic Perrottet said there have been 1,000 rescues so far, with more than 6,000 calls for assistance received by authorities.
Perrottet said 40,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, while 300,000 others have been placed under evacuation warnings.
Jonathan Howe from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology said the amount of rainfall in New South Wales and Queensland states has been "astronomical."
Howe said some of the communities haven't seen such flooding in decades.

Rescuers used boats and jet skis in the town's flooded streets to rescue people, while others waded through a flooded bridge.
Meanwhile, parts of Australia's third-most populous city Brisbane were under water on Monday after heavy rain brought record flooding to some east coast areas and killed seven people.
The flooding in Brisbane and its surrounds is the worst since 2011 when the city of 2.6 million people was inundated by what was described as a once-in-a-century event.

The 4 millimetre long jumping spider was captured along with another one and sent to a spider expert in Melbourne.
Experts later identified it as belonging to a genus group Jotus and will later be given a Latin scientific name. Ms De George described the find as exciting and said it felt nice to contribute to science.

Border restrictions between the Australian states of New South Wales and Victoria were&nbsp;eased on Thursday to allow residents to move freely within the region due to a drop in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases. The new measures followed an easing of restrictions in Victoria announced by Premier Daniel Andrews on Tuesday. Under the eased restrictions, Victoria residents can leave their homes for any reason, and can have a "household bubble" of five visitors. Pubs and restaurants can also serve outdoors. Previously, residents of regional Victoria in the border area could only enter NSW for a permitted purpose.
