Nestl&eacute; share price fell more than 4% today after reports of Nestl&eacute; adding sugar and honey to infant milk and cereal products sold in many poorer countries surfaced. It is important to note that this violates international laws and food standards.&nbsp;
The sugar that was added to cereal products was in the form of honey or sucrose. The cereals were aimed at kids between 6 months to 2 years.&nbsp;
After these reports a govt official as quoted by Business Today said. &ldquo;We have taken cognisance of the report regarding Nestle and will investigate the matter after doing due diligence&rdquo;
The report has raised concerns about Nestle's adherence to international guidelines aimed at combating obesity and chronic diseases.
In a joint investigation, a Zurich-based watchdog and the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) sent samples of popular baby food from Nestle to a testing laboratory in Belgium. The study examined 150 products marketed by the company in low and middle-income countries, including popular brands like Cerelac and Nido.
The findings revealed that almost all wheat-based Cerelac cereals by Nestle in these regions, targeted at infants six months and older, contained added sugar averaging 4 grams per serving, equivalent to a sugar cube.
The highest levels of added sugar per serving were found in the Philippines at 7.3 grams, followed by 6.8 grams in Nigeria and 5.9 grams in Senegal. In India, all 15 Cerelac baby products were found to contain an average of nearly 3 grams of added sugar per serving.&nbsp;
Interestingly, the same product is sold without added sugar in Germany and the UK, while containing nearly 6 grams in Ethiopia and Thailand, the study noted. &nbsp; Shortly after this Nestl&eacute; India released a statement saying &ldquo;We regularly review our portfolio and continue to innovate and reformulate our products to further reduce the level of added sugars without compromising on quality, safety and taste.&rdquo;

FMCG major, Nestle India has announced a stock split in the ratio of 1:10. This is the first such move by the company in India. The move is aimed at enhancing the liquidity of the company&rsquo;s equity shares and encouraging the participation of retail investors by making equity shares of the company more affordable. Currently, one share of Nestle India costs around ₹23,490. The FMCG major also announced a second interim dividend of ₹140 for the financial year. The company&rsquo;s Q3 results showed a jump in profit by 37% to ₹908 crore. Soon after the Q3 profit announcement company's stock price surged over 1%.&nbsp;
The stock split will result in one share with a face value of ₹10 being split into ten shares having a face value of ₹1 each. This means that existing shareholders will receive nine additional shares for every share held by them. The move is expected to make Nestle India&rsquo;s equity shares more affordable and increase retail participation in its stock.
Nestle India has been performing well in recent years, with its stock price increasing steadily. The company has been expanding its product portfolio and investing in new technologies to improve its operations.&nbsp;

Nestl&eacute; India is presently the seventh highest-priced Indian stock, trading at over ₹22,600 per share, making it expensive for many investors. However, the company&rsquo;s board of directors is set to meet on October 19 to discuss its first-ever stock split. The board will explore an alteration in the company's share capital through a sub-division or split of existing equity shares.
At the same meeting, the board of directors will also declare the comapny's second interim dividend for 2023, if any. The meeting is scheduled to consider the financial results of the company for the third quarter.&nbsp;
If approved by the board and shareholders, the record date for the second interim dividend will be November 1, and it shall be paid on and from 16 November 2023.
The company's diverse product portfolio includes popular items such as noodles, coffee, chocolates, packaged milk, and baby formula.
Last week, analysts at brokerage UBS downgraded their rating on Nestle India to &lsquo;neutral&rsquo; from &lsquo;buy&rsquo; as they saw limited upside.
