 Students will now be able to pursue two full-time degree programmes in physical mode simultaneously either at the same university or from different universities, UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar announced on Tuesday.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will soon issue detailed guidelines in this regard.
"As announced in the new National Education Policy (NEP) and in order to allow students to acquire multiple skills, UGC is coming up with new guidelines to allow a candidate to pursue two degree programmes in physical mode simultaneously. The degrees can either be pursued from the same or different universities," Kumar said at a press conference.
Students will also be allowed to pursue two degree programmes in physical and online mode simultaneously, he added.

The Prime Minister said NEP can provide proper atmosphere, infrastructure to talented Indian youths as he launched the National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR) and National Education Technology Forum (NETF). 
Elaborating on the initiatives launched PM Modi said engineering education will be imparted in 11 regional languages of India in its first year to plug the language divide in the country.
The list of initiatives launched on Thursday also includes Vidya Pravesh, a three-month play-based school preparation module for Grade 1 students, Indian sign language as a subject at secondary level and NISHTHA 2.0, an integrated programme of teacher training designed by the NCERT.
He also stressed that the Academic Bank of credit system based on modern technology is going to bring a revolutionary change in this direction for the students.
