In Bihar, Hindu deities were invoked to predict BJP's loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the latest poster war.
On January 14, a huge poster outside RJD's office in Patna showed Nitish Kumar as leader of the Mahagathbandhan defeating the NDA led alliance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The poster divided into three columns described how Lord Ram defeated Ravana in Ramayana and Lord Krishna defeated Kansa in Mahabharata.&nbsp;
The poster's last column showed the Grand Alliance, apparently led by Nitish Kumar, defeating PM Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The latest poster controversy comes days after Bihar Education Minister, Chandrashekhar stirred a row over his comment on the religious poem Ramcharitamanas

With the BJP-led NDA commanding 49% votes in the electoral college for the presidential election, 64-year-old tribal leader Droupadi Murmu is set for a comfortable victory.

Droupadi Murmu, a tribal leader from Odisha, was named the Bharatiya Janata Party led-National Democratic Alliance&rsquo;s (NDA) candidate for the 16th presidential polls scheduled to be held on July 18 consequent to the expiry of the term of current President Ram Nath Kovind.
With the NDA commanding 49% votes in the electoral college for the election, 64-year-old Murmu is set for a comfortable victory.
The woman of many firsts
If elected, Murmu, the former governor of Jharkhand, will be the first tribal woman to be the President of India, and the second woman to occupy the top constitutional post after Pratibha Patil. She was Jharkhand's first female governor and the first Odia woman and tribal leader to be named governor of an Indian state and serve a full term.
Early life
Born on June 20, 1958 in Baidaposi village of Odisha&rsquo;s Mayurbhanj district, Murmu belongs to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and hails from the Santhal community, one of the most dominant ethnic groups.
Foray into politics
With a Bachelor of Arts degree, Murmu started as a teacher before entering politics in 1997 as the councillor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. The same year, she was declared Vice President of BJP&rsquo;s Scheduled Tribes (ST) Morcha. After being elected as a legislator on a BJP ticket from the Rairangpur constituency in 2000 and 2009, she served as a minister in Commerce and Transport and subsequently Fisheries and Animal Resources department between 2000 and 2004 during the BJD-BJP coalition government in Odisha.&nbsp;
In 2015, Murmu was sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand.&nbsp;
In 2017, Murmu was seen as a contender for the president&rsquo;s post, when then-President Pranab Mukherjee was set to leave Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Political significance of her possible election
Her win, which looks highly likely, will boost BJP&rsquo;s tribal push in the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. The four states have 128 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes, of which the BJP had won just 35 in the last assembly elections.
Political significance aside, what her election as President would mean for people hailing from tribal communities and how or if she will project their concerns, only time will tell. Precedents warrant caution from prejudging.

In a first, Budget 2021 will go paperless and will be accessed via the Budget mobile app. Budget documents will be available in Hindi and English on Budget day for members of parliament (MPs), media, public and other key stakeholders. The app can be downloaded from the Union Budget website.
The budget is expected to be expansionary with the higher than trend expenditure allocations for infrastructure, healthcare and Make-in-India measures. There would also be an additional head of expenditure in this budget &ndash; the Covid-19 vaccination program. The government is expected to incur costs to the tune of ₹12,000 crore towards vaccinating citizens. On the funding front, privatisation, asset monetisation policy would also remain under the radar to partly offset a Covid-induced shortfall in tax revenues thereby containing deficit.
New Initiatives that can be announced keeping in mind future growth could be;&nbsp; 1. the setting up of a development financial institution for infrastructure development with an initial equity infusion from the government;&nbsp; 2. setting up of a bad bank for taking over stressed assets from the books of banks, freeing capital for them to undertake fresh lending;&nbsp; 3. setting up of a financial institution for taking over stalled projects.

India secure with Modi, Bihar with Nitish: BJP chief

Nitish&nbsp;Kumar&nbsp;changed political course in Bihar, says BJP&nbsp;Chief JP Nadda&nbsp;at election rally in Bihar's&nbsp;Gaya.&nbsp;

BJP chief JP Nadda said on Sunday that the Nitish Kumar government took care of the people of Bihar amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He asserted that it is important that the leadership of the state is secured with him.
Addressing an election rally at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Gaya, Nadda listed the development works done by the NDA government at the Centre in the last six years in the state. BJP chief JP Nadda said on Sunday that the Nitish Kumar government took care of the people of Bihar amid the Covid-19 pandemic, asserting that it is important that the leadership of the state is secured with him.
Addressing an election rally at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Gaya, Nadda listed the development works done by the NDA government at the Centre in the last six years in the state.
"Nitish Kumar took care of the people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Financial assistance was also provided by his government to those outside the state," he said.
"Leadership of India is secured in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it is important that the leadership of Bihar is secured with Nitish Kumar," he added.
Nadda said that only four medical colleges were there in Bihar, but in the last six years, the state got 14 medical colleges and work is going on for 11 others.
"New dimensions of development are being written in Bihar and it is our responsibility to drive this development," he said.
Nadda is on a day-long visit to the state to strategise the BJP's poll campaign.
He arrived on a special plane in Patna where he was given a rousing welcome by party workers outside the airport.
Nadda then visited the renowned Hanuman temple in the city and offered prayers.
He also visited the JP Niwas at Kadamkuan and garlanded the statue of Jayaprakash Narayan.
The BJP chief then proceeded to Gaya for the public meeting.

'Paltry' MSP hike 'cruel joke' on farmers: Amarinder

PTI,&nbsp;Chandigarh:&nbsp;Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday rejected the Centre's 'paltry' hike in MSP of wheat and five other Rabi crops as a 'cruel joke' on farmers.
He said the 'paltry' hike has come amid their growing apprehensions about the abolition of the minimum support price regime following the passage of the new agriculture Bills in Parliament.
&ldquo;This is callous. They have made a mockery of the farmers' protests over the farm bills, which by all accounts will eventually pave the way for ending the MSP system and abolish the Food Corporation of India,&rdquo; said the CM in a statement here.
The Centre on Monday hiked the MSP for buying six Rabi crops, including wheat, by up to six per cent. The MSP of wheat has been hiked by Rs 50 to Rs 1,975 per quintal. Besides, MSPs of lentil (masoor), gram, barley, safflower and mustard/rapeseed have been increased.
Singh said if the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre thought it would appease the agitating farms with this &ldquo;trifling&rdquo; hike, they clearly did not understand the situation.
&ldquo;You can't just throw crumbs at someone who may be on the verge of losing his livelihood as a result of your shameful actions,&rdquo; he told the Union government.
The farmers have been asking for a written guarantee that MSP will not be tampered with, but instead, the Centre has made a a &ldquo;measly&rdquo; offering to them, said the CM.
He said this once again showed how &ldquo;little&rdquo; the BJP and its allies, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), knew about the farmers and their problems.
At a time when the farmers were not even sure that the MSP regime will stay, and for how long, making these "meagre" hikes in the support price of a few crops amounted to playing with their emotions, said the CM.
The verbal assurances and promises made by the government which has &ldquo;failed&rdquo; to implement even its written promises and commitments are totally &ldquo;meaningless&rdquo;, he said, urging the central government to take cognisance of farmers&rsquo; concerns even now and address them with meaningful steps instead of such antics.
Singh said the farmers are at present worried about their future, and that of their families, and want categorical and clear commitments only, in black and white, that their produce will continue to be procured in the APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) markets at a minimum assured price.
They want to be secure about their livelihood, which in any case has been progressively &ldquo;declining&rdquo; due to the Centre's &ldquo;anti-farmer&rdquo; policies over the past six years, he added.
