The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday delisted 53 exam centres from conducting the Common University Entrance Test for Under Graduate (CUET-UG) admissions after exams had to be rescheduled over the past two days following 'technical glitches' at several centres.


The action was taken for 'non-compliance of protocols' and the centres were also warned of strict action in case of "sabotage".

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday delisted 53 exam centres from conducting the Common University Entrance Test for Under Graduate (CUET-UG) admissions after exams had to be rescheduled over the past two days following 'technical glitches' at several centres.
The action was taken for 'non-compliance of protocols' and the centres were also warned of strict action in case of "sabotage".
For the remaining schedule of the CUET-UG, no exam will be held at these delisted centres.
On Thursday, the first shift of the exam was cancelled in 17 states, while the second shift was cancelled at all 489 centres. On Friday, the exam was cancelled at 50 centres.
On Saturday, NTA anticipated a similar situation and cancelled the CUET-UG for the day at 53 centres and sent messages to candidates about its postponement on Friday night. These exams will now be held between August 12 and August 14.
The Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan was also forced to hold a review meeting along with officials of his Ministry, the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education and NTA after large number of complaints were registered from affected students and their parents.
&ldquo;It was found that some of the centres failed to comply with the laid down protocols. Any incidence of non-compliance/sabotage/ignorance will be viewed very seriously and strict action will be taken against those centres to ensure smooth conduct of examinations in future,&rdquo; the NTA said in a press statement.
Of the 53 centres, 32 are in Delhi.
&ldquo;We are working on a comprehensive plan for exams that have been rescheduled. We will intimate the exact schedule in a few days. We have also received representations from those seeking change in dates because of clash with other competitive exams and are looking into their requests,&rdquo; Mr. Joshi said. The NTA is yet to announce when the result will be declared, but the DG said that there will be no delay. &ldquo;We have enough space available,&rdquo; he said.
The NTA is conducting CUET -UG 2022 from July 15 to August 20 in two phases at 489 centres in 259 cities in India and nine cities abroad. The exam is being held in two shifts &mdash; morning and afternoon. Approximately 14.9 lakh students have registered for the exam.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at the government on Twitter, saying the &ldquo;new education policy of amrit kaal&rdquo; was to have &ldquo;parikshaa pe charcha&rdquo; (Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s interaction with students) before exams, &ldquo;no question paper, no discussion&rdquo; at the time of exams and &ldquo;after the exam a future in darkness&rdquo;. He said, &ldquo;today what is happening with students of CUET is the story of every youth in the country.&rdquo;

A bench comprising Justices L Nageswara Rao, Sanjiv Khanna and B R Gavai also stayed the Bombay High Court&rsquo;s recent order asking the NTA not to declare the NEET results and conduct re-examination for two aspirants whose question papers and OMR sheets had got mixed up at a centre in Maharashtra.
&ldquo;We stay the high court judgement. The National Testing Agency can announce the results,&rdquo; the bench said after taking note of the submissions of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who represented the NTA.
&ldquo;We will decide what happens to the two students upon reopening (after Diwali vacation). In the meanwhile, we issue notice and file a counter. But we cannot hold the results of 16 lakh students,&rdquo; the bench said.

The result for JEE-Mains was announced on Friday with 24 students scoring 100 percentile in the engineering entrance exam which was postponed twice in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Joint Entrance Exam-Mains for admission to engineering colleges was conducted from September 1 to 6, amid stringent precautions and social distancing measures in view of Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 8.58 lakh candidates had registered for the JEE-Mains exam, only 74 per cent of them had appeared for the exam.

While Telangana has maximum 100 percent scorers at 8, Delhi is at the second spot with 5 hundred percent scorers followed by Rajasthan (4), Andhra Pradesh (3), Haryana (2) and one candidate each from Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Staggered entry and exit for candidates, sanitisers at the gate, distribution of masks and maintaining distance as candidates queued up, were among the scenes witnessed at the exam centres across the country.
A total of 8.58 lakh candidates had registered for the JEE-Mains exam for admission to engineering courses in IITs, NITs and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) while only 74 per cent of them had appeared for the exam.
Increasing the number of examination centres, alternate seating plans, fewer candidates per room and staggered entry and exit were among the steps taken by the National Testing Agency for safely conducting the crucial exam.
While the governments of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh had assured students that they would provide transportation to candidates, a group of IIT alumni and students also launched a portal to provide transport facilities to exam centres for the candidates in need.
There had been a growing chorus for postponing JEE-Mains and medical entrance exam NEET amid the rising number of Covid-19 cases. The Supreme Court had earlier dismissed a plea seeking postponement of the two exams amid a spurt in the number of Covid-19 cases, saying a "precious year" of students cannot be wasted and life has to go on.
Based on the results of the JEE-Mains Paper 1 and Paper 2, the top 2.45 lakh candidates will be eligible to appear for the JEE-Advanced exam, which is a one-stop exam to get admission into the 23 premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). JEE-Advanced is scheduled to take place on September 27.
