In a press conference held in Kargil, NC leader Qamar Ali Akhoon said the party functionaries have decided to support Hanifa Jan in the Parliamentary elections.

The Kargil unit of National Conference resigned en masse on Monday, in protest against the whip to support the Congress candidate from the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency.&nbsp;
As part of the INDIA bloc seat-sharing agreement, the Congress will contest from Ladakh, Jammu and Udhampur, while the NC fields candidates from the three seats in the Valley.
NC&rsquo;s Kargil district president, Haji Hanifa Jan, decided to go against the party decision and filed his nomination as an independent candidate.
On Monday afternoon, NC president Farooq Abdullah issued a directive to the Kargil unit to support the INDIA candidate, T Namgyal.
However, by evening, the entire Kargil unit of NC resigned.
In a press conference held in Kargil, NC leader Qamar Ali Akhoon said the party functionaries have decided to support Hanifa Jan in the Parliamentary elections.
In a letter to party Abdullah, Akhoon said, &ldquo;As the party insists us to act against the interest of the people of Ladakh, so we are compelled to resign en masse&hellip; This letter may be considered as mass resignation of all party functionaries from the primary membership of J&amp;K National Conference.&rdquo;
Namgyal and Hanifa are up against BJP&rsquo;s Tashi Gyalson in the fifth phase of polls on May 20.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court Monday asked National Conference leader Mohd Akbar Lone to file an affidavit swearing allegiance to the Constitution of India and accepting the country's sovereignty, after the 'Pakistan zindabad' slogan that he allegedly raised in the Jammu &amp; Kashmir assembly in 2018 kicked up a massive row.
Lone, the lead petitioner challenging the abrogation of Article 370 that accorded special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, will file the affidavit by Tuesday, senior advocate Kapil Sibal told a five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
The senior lawyer said he will not represent Lone if he does not file the affidavit as sought by the bench.
"He is an MP of Lok Sabha. He is citizen of India and sworn to his office by the Constitution. He accepts the sovereignty of India," Sibal said.
Earlier in the day, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, told the bench that the central government wanted Lone to apologise for raising &lsquo;Pakistan zindabad&rsquo; (long live Pakistan) slogan in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in 2018.

Re-elected National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Monday said boycotting the panchayat polls in 2018 was "a huge mistake" and the party must contest every future election in Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah also warned the government and the security forces not to interfere in any election process.
The former Union minister had expressed a desire to step down from the post owing to his health during a recent party meeting. After his re-election, he said though he wanted to step aside and let the younger leadership run the party, he was persuaded to continue as "we are passing through a very difficult phase".
"I want to tell the party that boycotting the panchayat elections (in 2018) was a huge mistake. Remember this, we will not boycott any coming election. Instead (we will) contest and win them," Abdullah said while addressing the party's delegate session where he was re-elected unopposed as National Conference (NC) president.
Referring to his son Omar Abdullah's announcement that he would not contest elections as long as Jammu and Kashmir remained a Union Territory, the senior Abdullah said, "As party president, I am telling you (Omar Abdullah) that you have to contest the election." "Because if we have to fight them, then we all have to jump into the fray and contest elections," he added.
The former Union minister said the BJP "will do anything, even make attempts to buy your loyalties, but God will fail all their designs".
Abdullah also warned the security forces and the government not to interfere in the elections in Jammu and Kashmir and said "let people decide whom to vote for".
"Otherwise, there will be such a storm, which you will not be able to control," he said.

Referring to the 2019 development, the NC chief said that "we hope they will restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay". "It (restoration of statehood) is imperative. It was unfortunate that our state was downgraded and divided. This time will also change. If you support us at the opportune time (at the time of elections), the time is not far when we will be together again as a single entity &ndash; Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh," he said. He said the strength of India is unity in diversity and "we have to maintain this unity and strengthen it to make our country powerful". "When elections are near, they will come to you and tell you that Hindus are in danger. India has a Hindu population of 70 to 80 per cent and do you think they will be in danger," he said, adding deliberate attempts are being to create doubts in the minds of people for vested political interests.
