Renowned actor Naseeruddin Shah, in a recent interview, confessed that he found it difficult to watch blockbusters like &lsquo;RRR&rsquo; and &lsquo;Pushpa&rsquo;.
Expressing his perspective on these films, Naseeruddin said, &lsquo;I am pretty sure because I have great faith in the younger generation and I think that they are far more evolved, far more informed and far more savvy than we were. Apart from the thrill, I can&rsquo;t imagine what else one gets from watching such films. I tried to watch RRR, but I couldn&rsquo;t. I tried to watch Pushpa, but I couldn&rsquo;t. Although I did watch a Mani Ratnam film, completely, because he is a very capable filmmaker and does not have an agenda. And I can&rsquo;t imagine besides the thrill or feeding the emotions hidden inside you. There is a sense of happiness that often lingers for several days after watching. I can&rsquo;t imagine. Main aisi films dekhne kabhi na jaaun.&rsquo;
He also shared his thoughts on the glorification of hyper-masculinity in Bollywood films.
In an interview with the YouTube channel We Are Yuvaa, the actor said, &lsquo;Men&rsquo;s insecurity is increasing. That&rsquo;s why hyper-masculinity is being emphasised even more. All superheroes, now in America, this Marvel universe is thriving, and it&rsquo;s happening here too. But alongside, films like A Wednesday also succeed, which don&rsquo;t have a hypermasculine hero. Granted, the premise of that film is completely impossible. So, that character somehow falls into the hero category because what he does, it&rsquo;s not possible for anyone to do. But people overlook that, because he provides them with a thrill. So I suppose this need to receive a thrill is there and will always be there. But the acceptance of smaller films like those made by Anurag, like Ramprasad Ki Terhvi, like Gulmohar, I think these kinds of sensitive movies will find their place as well.&rsquo;

'Two completely unnecessary controversies seem to have erupted. over things I&rsquo;ve said recently. One regarding my mis-statement about the Sindhi language in Pakistan. I was in error there. The second over what I&rsquo;m supposed to have said about the relationship between Marathi and Farsi. My exact words were &ldquo;many Marathi words are of Farsi origin.&rdquo; My intention was not to run down the Marathi language but to talk of how diversity enriches all cultures Urdu itself is a mix of Hindi Farsi Turkish and Arabic. English has borrowed words from all European languages not to mention Hindustani and I suppose that is true of every language spoken on earth,' he wrote on Facebook.

&lsquo;I don&rsquo;t find any value in these trophies. I was happy when I received the initial ones. But then, trophies started piling up around me. Sooner or later I understood that these awards are a result of lobbying. One is receiving these awards not necessarily because of their merit. So I started leaving them behind. After that, when I received Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, it reminded me of my deceased father who used to always be worried about my job and said things like &lsquo;if you do this useless work, you will become a fool&rsquo;. So, when I went to Rashtrapati Bhavan to collect the awards, I looked up and asked my dad if he was seeing all this&hellip; He was&hellip; and I am sure he was happy&hellip; I was happy to receive those awards. But I can&rsquo;t stand these competitive awards,&rsquo; he said.&nbsp;
He further added, &lsquo;Any actor who has put their life and effort into portraying a role is a good actor. Naseeruddin Shah, is all set to portray the role of King Akbar in the upcoming Zee5 original series 'Taj: Divided By Blood'. The series will be a depiction of the 'inner workings and the succession drama' that played in the Mughal empire. Now, in his latest interview, the veteran actor has said that there&rsquo;s nothing like objective history, so its depiction in books or in cinema will always be difficult.
Speaking with indianexpress.com, the actor talked about the difficulties faced during the making and showcase of a historical project in today&rsquo;s world. Shah said, &lsquo;it is difficult to make historicals with the kind of nuance that they deserve.&rsquo;
'I suppose they are difficult because you have to take sides. There is no such thing as an objective history. History is written by the victors, and you have to read between the lines. I think it is difficult to make historicals with the kind of nuance that they deserve. It&rsquo;s easy to make a grand spectacle with hundreds of elephants and horses and so on,&rsquo; he said.
He further added, &lsquo;But to understand these people as human beings, I think is more difficult. Yeah. And then you run the risk of offending people, but I don&rsquo;t think Taj: Divided by Blood is going to offend anyone. It presents an original, non-Indian perception of this dynasty.&rsquo;

The trailer of the much-anticipated film 'Kuttey', starring Tabu, Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Radhika Madan, has been finally unveiled. Arjun and Tabu will be portraying the role of cops in the Asmaan Bhardwaj directorial. The film has a good amount of black humour.
The trailer opens with Tabu and others pointing guns at Arjun. He asks them to put down their weapons on his count, but he is the only one to do so. The clip is then broken up into three parts as it shows what happens when the gang collides while hunting for money. The video also shows a glimpse of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in a scene.
Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Arjun wrote, 'Hato Kamino! Kuttey aa gaye!! #Kuttey trailer out now! In cinemas 13th January.'&nbsp;

The motion poster of Aasmaan Bhardwaj&rsquo;s forthcoming film 'Kuttey' has been unveiled. The film has an ensemble cast including Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Radhika Madan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra and Shardul Bhardwaj.
In the video, you get a glimpse of all the characters and its tagline reads, &lsquo;Ek haddi, saat kuttey (One bone for seven dogs)&rsquo;. Arjun is seen as a cop, while Tabu plays a senior investigation officer. Naseeruddin portrays the role of a deadly gangster and Konkona plays a Naxalite leader. Amid global condemnation over BJP leaders comments on Prophet Mohammad, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah on Wednesday said he hopes good sense prevails and the "hate wave" against Muslims dissipates even if that doesn't happen in his lifetime.
In an interview to NDTV, the multiple National Award winner also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step in and "stop this poison from spreading".
"I would appeal to him (PM) to knock some good sense into these people. If he believes what was said at the 'Dharam Sansad' in Rishikesh, then he should say so. If he does not, then he should say so," he said.
The BJP on Sunday suspended its national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled its Delhi media head Naveen Kumar Jindal after their controversial remarks against the Prophet.
Amid protests by Muslim groups over the remarks, the party also issued a statement aimed at assuaging the concerns of minorities and distancing itself from these members, asserting that it respects all religions and strongly denounces the insult of any religious personality.
The controversial remarks also sparked a Twitter trend in the Arab world calling for a boycott of Indian products.
"What the Indian government did was too little, too late. It was a week before they even opened their mouths and said anything condemning these kinds of statements.
"These kinds of statements in a country like Pakistan, Bangladesh or Afghanistan, which we hope to include in 'Akhand Bharat' some day, would result in a death sentence because it would be considered blasphemous. Here, there was not a sound from the top and absolutely no acknowledgement of the hurt caused to millions of believers," Shah told NDTV.
After her suspension from the ruling party, Sharma issued an "unconditional apology", something the senior actor dubbed "insincere".
"It's hardly meant to assuage hurt feelings. I wouldn't be surprised if such a hate speech occurs again. It's ironic you talk of peace and unity, you get locked up in jail for more than a year. You talk of genocide and you get a slap on the wrist. There are double standards working here. It's like the double-think of George Orwell's '1984'." Shah said Sharma was not a "fringe element" as the BJP has claimed.
He also argued that it was "high time" that sensible Hindus spoke up against the hate towards the Muslim community.
Shah said he puts "complete responsibility" on TV news channels and social media for "propagating hate".
"It's a manufactured hate. It's a kind of venom that begins to spew when you are confronted with somebody with an opposite opinion... I wonder how long it is before the shivlings start to be searched under every church," Shah said in an apparent reference to the ongoing case of the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi.
He, however, condemned death threats against Sharma and her family, who are now under Delhi Police's protection.
"This route (threats) is wrong. That's why Pakistan and Afghanistan are in a mess. We do not want to emulate these countries but willy-nilly are we doing so. Not (for) just slaughtering a cow but on the suspicion of slaughtering a cow people are being lynched, untouchables who were skinning a dead cow are whipped in public. These are not the kinds of things that used to happen in India, but in barbaric Islamic countries." Asked if the Khans - Shah Rukh, Salman and Saif - can open up about their thoughts today, Shah said he can't speak for these Bollywood stars.
"They would be risking too much but I don't know how they explain it to their conscience about it. I think they have too much to lose." He also praised Shah Rukh, his co-star of many films such as "Chamatkar" and "Chaahat", for handling media scrutiny with grace last year when his son Aryan was arrested in connection with a drugs case.
He also noted that instead of being acknowledged for all the work done during the lockdown, Sonu Sood gets raided.
Asked to comment on how the film industry was cozying up to the government, Shah said they want to be on the winning side.
"It does look like the BJP is going to stay on the winning side for a while. It's nothing new..." Calling "The Kashmir Files" an "almost fictionalised version of the suffering of the Kashmiri Hindus", the actor said the government is promoting it instead of ensuring the security and rehabilitation for the community.
"It is propaganda and people are willingly participating in it. I fear there will be more such pseudo-patriotic films (in future)." Shah further said he doesn't feel marginalised as a Muslim in India as he comes from p Dashboardrivilege as a senior actor with social capital.
"I'm certainly not disgruntled, or unhappy in the country. This has been the country I've been brought up in, taught to love, the country I've been told I belong to, and I feel I belong to. I'm luckily in a position where I can't be marginalised.
"I'm still getting work, it's not that my anti-establishment statements have resulted in me being blacklisted. I just wish that somehow good sense prevails but I'm not optimistic that will happen very soon. This hate wave will dissipate some day. it may not happen in my lifetime, but it will dissipate some day."

Asked if the Khans - Shah Rukh, Salman and Saif - can open up about their thoughts today, Shah said he can't speak for these Bollywood stars.
"They would be risking too much but I don't know how they explain it to their conscience about it. I think they have too much to lose." He also praised Shah Rukh, his co-star of many films such as "Chamatkar" and "Chaahat", for handling media scrutiny with grace last year when his son Aryan was arrested in connection with a drugs case.
He also noted that instead of being acknowledged for all the work done during the lockdown, Sonu Sood gets raided.
Asked to comment on how the film industry was cozying up to the government, Shah said they want to be on the winning side.
"It does look like the BJP is going to stay on the winning side for a while. It's nothing new..." Calling "The Kashmir Files" an "almost fictionalised version of the suffering of the Kashmiri Hindus", the actor said the government is promoting it instead of ensuring the security and rehabilitation for the community.
"It is propaganda and people are willingly participating in it. I fear there will be more such pseudo-patriotic films (in future)." Shah further said he doesn't feel marginalised as a Muslim in India as he comes from p<a title="Dashboard" href="../site/index"> Dashboard</a>rivilege as a senior actor with social capital.
"I'm certainly not disgruntled, or unhappy in the country. This has been the country I've been brought up in, taught to love, the country I've been told I belong to, and I feel I belong to. I'm luckily in a position where I can't be marginalised.
"I'm still getting work, it's not that my anti-establishment statements have resulted in me being blacklisted. I just wish that somehow good sense prevails but I'm not optimistic that will happen very soon. This hate wave will dissipate some day. it may not happen in my lifetime, but it will dissipate some day."&nbsp;

Alisha (Deepika Padukone) is an ambitious Yoga instructor who is in a monotonous live-in relationship with an aspiring novelist Karan (Dhairya Karwa). Karan who had left the job in an advertising agency to pursue his passion of writing suffers from pangs of procrastination and lethargy. He just doesn’t want to make earnest attempts! This forces Alisha to take over the role of being the pillar for the financial and emotional needs of the relationship. In stark contrast to her cousin,Tia (Ananya Panday) she leads a ‘mediocre’ lifestyle which stays on like a thread of a life she could have had if her father (Naseeruddin Shah) didn’t pursue his passion of making cheese at a small venture out of Nashik. She blames her father for losing her mother and injecting a sense of fear of being stuck in a relationship.
As she fights to accept the reality of her relationship, her cousin Tia invites her and Karan for a weekend break with her fiancé Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi). Zain is a flamboyant and charming real estate developer who is working on a multicrore development project in Alibaug. He wears stylish clothes, leases a luxury latch to impress his clients and believes in moving in the greys. Zain is in relationship with Tia a naïve and rich girl who is also a sleeping partner in his business. He needs her money and connections more than her love.
During the weekend, waves of casual flirtation routines between Alisha and Zain turns into a sea of passion. Hereon, the story charts the journey of Alisha and Zain, as they confront the ghost of their past on the path they take to avoid it.
Directed by Shakun Batra, the film establishes a different meaning to the catch-line of the film: Are we messed up people? Karan doesn’t wish to take up responsibility yet hides under the veil of ‘personal space’ and unfair ‘criticism’. Tia wants to mend her relationship with her cousin yet hides a truth of her life. Alisha fears that she too shall be ‘stuck’ and helpless like her mother if she continues the relationship and rather prefers to break-free. Zain prefers to play the victim in his own web of convoluted reasons – in business and relationships.

She lives through her character of a rich and naïve kid who thinks of learning pottery to kill boredom or be blind to the ripples around her life. Perhaps her reason to trust stems from her own ingenuity in another part of her life. Dhairya Karwa comes across as a good friend but not so great partner. His character hasn’t been explored much but he still manages to do a decent job. Rajat Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah have little screen-time but they make the most out of it through their acting brilliance.
This is the first time a film has used an intimacy expert. The decision has paid well as what could have been an exorbitant display of lust turns into moments of passion. From exciting and full of life to crashing of relationships and finally submerging the audience into his narrative, Shakun utilizes waves to represent the curve of the film.
There are pockets of waning grip yet in the last thirty minutes the film tries to make up for it. The film could have definitely benefited from a theatrical release. Until then, watch it on Amazon Prime Video’s this weekend.
