Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping shook hands Tuesday at a side event at the G20 Summit here, a gesture sparking interest because of the strained bilateral relations over a border clash two years back.
A live video feed for the media from the welcome dinner hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo for G20 delegates showed the brief exchange between the two leaders.
There had been some speculation over a possible bilateral meeting between the two leaders on the margins of the Group of 20 Summit, which began Tuesday. But the agenda made known by both sides so far does not mention such a meeting.
Prime Minister Modi and President Xi, who were both attending the G20 dinner hosted by Indonesian President Widodo, exchanged courtesies at the conclusion of the dinner, official sources said when asked about the interaction between the two leaders.
Since the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed &ndash; there has been no one-on-one meetings between the two leaders.
India has been consistently maintaining that peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) are important for the overall development of bilateral ties.
In September, Prime Minister Modi and President Xi came face-to-face at the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Uzbek city of Samarkand for the first time since the start of the border standoff in eastern Ladakh.
No separate meeting is believed to have taken place between them there, though it is presumed they would have exchanged pleasantries.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday said that the US could not agree more with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he told Russian President Vladimir Putin that "this is not an era of war".
Speaking at a joint press appearance with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Washington, Blinken said that the US tried everything possible to avert the Ukraine conflict through diplomacy.
"Unfortunately, tragically, President Putin pursued his aggression, nonetheless. And now the Ukrainian people, but also the world are reaping the consequences," he said.
Responding to questions, he said, "I really want to emphasise on what Prime Minister Modi said because I think he captured as well as anyone I've heard, fundamentally, what this moment is about as he said, 'this is not an era of war'. We could not agree more." In a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Samarkand earlier this month, Modi underlined the importance of "democracy, dialogue and diplomacy" while calling for an early cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.
"I know today's era is not of war. We discussed this issue with you on phone several times, that democracy, diplomacy and dialogue touch the entire world," Modi said in his first in-person meeting with Putin since the Ukraine conflict began in February.
Blinken said one person has the ability to stop this aggression. And that's Putin. "If Russia stops fighting, the war ends. If Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ends," he added.
"I think it's very important though that voice is as consequential as India's make themselves heard. And that's why I thought that the Prime Minister's comments were so significant," he added.

On the sidelines of the bilateral talks, Bangladesh and India signed 7 MoUs in the presence of &nbsp;PM Narendra Modi and his counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Delhi&rsquo;s Hyderabad house including a key pact on sharing water of Kushiyara river.&nbsp;
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina was welcomed by her Indian counterpart at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the national capital where she was accorded the ceremonial Guard of Honour. Hasina arrived in India on Monday on a 4-day visit.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Trade between India-Bangladesh is increasing rapidly. We have decided to extend cooperation in the IT, Space and Nuclear sectors. Talks are also underway between India and Bangladesh on power transmission lines.", PM Modi said while addressing a joint press conference with his counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Delhi.&nbsp;
Notably, Bangladesh is India&rsquo;s key partner under the latter's &lsquo;Neighbourhood First' policy.&nbsp;
On September 5 2022, Hasina met India&rsquo;s foriegn minister S Jaishankar and raised the issue of instability in the Rakhine state of Myanmar and concerns that it could spread further.&nbsp;

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws, an old video of Rahul Gandhi from January resurfaced online and went viral. 
In the video, Rahul said, ‘Mark my words…these (farm) laws..the government will be forced to take them back. Remember what I said.'
Following this, Rahul Gandhi further attacked the Centre. In a tweet, Rahul asked the Centre to take ownership of Chinese occupancy in Ladakh.

The Lucknow to Ghazipur <a href="https://www.editorji.com/elections/up-elections/up-election-2022-pm-modi-to-open-purvanchal-expressway-air-show-to-jazz-up-event-1637031754607" target="_blank">Purvanchal Expressway</a> is the big showcase of the Yogi Adityanath government ahead of the UP elections early next year.

The Purvanchal Expressway, which has been constructed at an estimated cost of about ₹22,500 crore, will link the state capital of Lucknow with the eastern districts with links to major cities of Prayagraj and Varanasi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today land on the Purvanchal Expressway in a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft to inaugurate the 340-kilometre road in Eastern UP.
A 3.2-km stretch of the expressway near Sultanpur has been developed as airstrip for allowing fighter aircraft to make emergency landings.
