If reports are to be believed, former House speaker Nancy Pelosi privately told Biden that he cannot defeat Donald Trump.
CNN reported that Pelosi was seen convincing Biden to not run for the presidential polls, saying that he could destroy Democrats&rsquo; chances of winning the House in November, if he continues seeking a second term.&nbsp;
A source told CNN that Biden got defensive about the polls and told Pelosi that he can win.
The conversation is believed to have taken place in early July.
This was the second conversation between Pelosi and Biden after the US president's train-wreck debate with Republican opponent Donald Trump.
Not only Pelosi, but two top Democrats in the US Congress have also expressed their concerns to Biden.&nbsp;
BBC reported that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have told Biden to re-consider his bid to contest for the White House.
Notably, in an interview with BET News Biden had indicated, for the first time that he would consider dropping out of the race if any of his doctors said he had a "medical condition".
The president also added that he did not feel he could pass the mantle with the country so "divided".
But a Pelosi spokesperson told CNN that the former House speaker has been in California since Friday and she has not spoken to Biden since.

China has asked President Joe Biden not to approve a new Tibet policy bill that was passed by the US Congress.

China on Tuesday urged US President Joe Biden not to sign the Tibet policy bill, warning of "resolute measures", as it expressed &ldquo;strong concern&rdquo; over the visit of a high-level US Congress delegation to Dharamshala to meet the Dalai Lama.
A bipartisan US congressional delegation, led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaulis, is visiting India to strengthen bilateral ties and to meet the 88-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader.
Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is part of the delegation that reached Dharamsala, in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday. Dharamsala is the seat of power for Tibet&rsquo;s government in exile since the spiritual leader stepped into India six decades ago.
The US House of Representatives voted 391-26 last Wednesday to approve the Promoting and Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act, which was passed by the Senate, a media report said, adding, that the bill would direct funds to counter what it calls &ldquo;disinformation&rdquo; from Beijing about Tibet&rsquo;s history, people and institutions.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, while reacting to the US delegation visit, told a media briefing here: &ldquo;The 14th Dalai Lama is not a pure religious figure, but a political exile engaged in anti-China separatist activities under the cloak of religion.&rdquo; &ldquo;We are gravely concerned over the relevant reports and urge the US side to fully recognise the anti-China separatist nature of the Dalai group, honour the commitments the US has made to China on issues related to Xizang, have no contact with the Dalai group in any form, and stop sending the wrong signal to the world&rdquo;, he said.
China officially refers to Tibet as Xizang.
Lin also urged Biden not to sign the bipartisan Tibet policy bill adopted by both the US Senate and the House of Representatives. The bill awaits Biden&rsquo;s signature to make it into a law, according to media reports in Washington.
The bill seeks to counter China&rsquo;s narrative about its control over Tibet and promote dialogue between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama.
Claiming that Tibet has been part of China since ancient times, Lin said it always remained China&rsquo;s territory and &ldquo;Tibet related affairs are purely China&rsquo;s internal affairs that brook no external interference.&rdquo; &ldquo;No one and no force should ever attempt to destabilise Tibet to contain and suppress China. Such attempts will never succeed,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;We urge the US side to adhere to its commitments of recognising Xizang as part of China and not supporting &lsquo;Xizang independence.&rsquo; The US must not sign the bill into law. China will take resolute measures to firmly defend its sovereignty, security and development interests,&rdquo; he said without elaborating.
Lin said Tibet now enjoys a tranquil and harmonious society, positive economic growth, has robust safeguards on people&rsquo;s welfare and has opened up new grounds for long-term stability and high-quality development.
Detailing the Tibet Bill, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported earlier that it refutes the Chinese government&rsquo;s claim that Tibet has been part of China since ancient times, and would make it US policy that the dispute over Tibet&rsquo;s status is unresolved.
It would also make it US policy that &ldquo;Tibet&rdquo; refers not only to the Tibet autonomous region as defined by the Chinese government but also to Tibetan areas of Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, the Post reported.
China in April this year said it would talk only with the representatives of the Dalai Lama and not the officials of the Tibetan government in exile based in India.
At the same time, China ruled out dialogue on the Dalai Lama&rsquo;s long-pending demand for autonomy for his remote Himalayan homeland.
In its talks with China between 2002 and 2010, the Tibetan side pitched genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people in line with the middle-way policy as proposed by the Dalai Lama, who has said he does not seek political independence for Tibet but seeks autonomy for all Tibetan areas which included Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces besides the current official Tibet Autonomous Region, a truncated version of Tibet before it was annexed by China.
After a failed anti-Chinese uprising in 1959, the 14th Dalai Lama fled Tibet and came to India where he set up the government-in-exile.
Relations between the two sides strained further due to protests against China in Tibetan areas in 2008.

The police body-cam footage of October 28, 2022, shows suspect David DePape and Paul Pelosi standing inside the house clutching a large hammer.
DePape tells police officers, "Everything's good," at which point the officers instruct him to drop the hammer.
DePape then appears to tear the hammer fully away from Pelosi, before striking him with a powerful overhand blow.
Pelosi, lying still, can be seen partially under the body of DePape, who is being restrained by the officers.

The man accused of attacking US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer had a list of future targets that included Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks, a US court heard Wednesday.
David DePape told police he had intended to kidnap the Democratic Party's top politician in Congress and get her to admit to "lies" or he would smash her kneecaps.
But when he broke into her San Francisco home in October, he instead found her 82-year-old husband Paul Pelosi, and after what he told officers was a "pretty amicable" exchange, bludgeoned him with a hammer.

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Stephen Murphy ruled Wednesday that there was enough evidence for 42-year-old DePape, a Canadian former public nudity activist, to stand trial over the assault, which left Paul Pelosi with a fractured skull.
The defendant has denied the charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, residential burglary, false imprisonment and threatening the life of or causing serious bodily harm to a public official.
DePape told investigators he was looking at other high-profile targets as well as Nancy Pelosi, the court heard.
These included Hanks, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden and the frequent target of rightwing conspiracy theorists.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that she will not seek a leadership position in the new Congress, a pivotal realignment making way for a new generation of leaders after Democrats lost control of the House to Republicans in the midterm elections.
Pelosi announced in a spirited speech on the House floor that she will step aside after leading Democrats for nearly 20 years and in the aftermath of the brutal attack on her husband, Paul, last month in their San Francisco home.
The California Democrat, who rose to become the nation's first woman to wield the speaker's gavel, said she would remain in Congress as the representative from San Francisco, a position she has held for 35 years, when the new Congress convenes in January.
&ldquo;Now we must move boldly into the future,&rdquo; Pelosi said.
&ldquo;I will not seek reelection to Democratic leadership in the next Congress,&rdquo; Pelosi said. "For me, the hour has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect.&rdquo; She received a standing ovation after her remarks, and members one by one went up to offer her hugs and well wishes.
It's an unusual choice for a party leader to stay on after withdrawing from congressional leadership but one befitting of Pelosi, who has long defied convention in pursuing power in Washington.

Democrats cheered Pelosi as she arrived in the chamber at noon. On short notice, lawmakers filled the House, at least on the Democratic side, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer joined. The Speaker's Gallery filled with Pelosi staff and guest. Some Republicans, including some newly-elected members, also attended.
Earlier, Pelosi had noted in a statement after The Associated Press called control of the chamber that, in the next Congress, House Democrats will have &ldquo;strong leverage over a scant Republican majority.&rdquo; The first women to become speaker, and the only person in decades to be twice elected to the role, she has led Democrats through consequential moments, including passage of the Affordable Care Act with President Barack Obama and the impeachments of President Donald Trump.

Federal prosecutors have filed two charges against DePape, days after police say he broke into the Pelosi's home and struck the Democratic leader's 82-year-old husband in the head with a hammer. He was left seriously injured in the attack, underwent surgery for a skull fracture, and suffered other injuries to his arms and hands.
DePape is charged federally with influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a federal official by threatening or injuring a family member. He also faces one count of attempted kidnapping of a United States official on account of the performance of official duties.
The announcement of the federal charges comes as San Francisco's district attorney is set to announce state criminal charges as well against DePape. He was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse and burglary and is expected to be arraigned on state charges Tuesday.
San Francisco's district attorney, Brooke Jenkins, also rejected conspiracy theories about the attack, confirming the assailant was targeting the Democratic leader when he broke into the couple's home and confronted Paul Pelosi.

Pelosi, 82, suffered blunt force injuries to his head and body, according to two people who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing probe.
The attack was not random; the assailant specifically targeted the home, the people said. The assailant was in custody.
Pelosi was being treated by doctors for bruising, severe swelling and other injuries. Nancy Pelosi's spokesman Drew Hammill said he was expected to make a full recovery.
&ldquo;The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time," Hammill said in a statement.
While the circumstances of the attack are unclear, the attack raises questions about the safety of members of Congress and their families as threats to lawmakers are at an all-time high almost two years after the deadly Capitol insurrection. The attack also comes just 11 days ahead of midterm elections in which crime and public safety have emerged as top concerns among Americans.
In 2021, Capitol Police investigated around 9,600 threats made against members of Congress, and members have been violently attacked in recent years. Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot in the head at an event outside a Tucson grocery store in 2011, and Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., was severely injured when a gunman opened fire on a Republican congressional baseball team practice in 2017.
Members of Congress have received additional dollars for security at their homes, but some have pushed for more protection as people have showed up at their homes and as members have received an increasing number of threatening communications.
Capitol Police, tasked with protecting congressional leaders, said Nancy Pelosi was with her protective detail in Washington at the time her husband was attacked. She'd just returned this week from a security conference in Europe and is due to keynote an advocacy event Saturday evening with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Often at Nancy Pelosi's side during formal events in Washington, Paul Pelosi is a wealthy investor who largely remains on the West Coast. They have five adult children and many grandchildren. The two have been married 59 years.
Earlier this year, Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence charges related to a May crash in California's wine country and was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation.
President Joe Biden and lawmakers from both parties reacted to the assault with shock and expressed their well wishes to the Pelosi family.

Thinking about the Pelosi family today," tweeted Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that President Joe Biden has also been in contact with Nancy Pelosi.

After Nancy Pelosi was seen on video getting her hair done at a salon while many were shut down during the coronavirus pandemic, stylists protested outside with curling irons.
Members of the Chinese community protested outside recently before Pelosi's trip to Taiwan. And during during debates over the federal stimulus package protesters scrawled anarchy signs in black paint across the garage door, along with &ldquo;cancel rent,&rdquo; and &ldquo;we want everything.&rdquo;

China has summoned the American envoy to Beijing to lodge a stern protest over Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi's high-profile visit to Taipei, warning that Washington will "pay a price" for its "mistakes" and asked it to stop using the Taiwan issue to contain China in any form.
Bristling with anger over Pelosi&rsquo;s visit to Taipei, China also carried out live-fire missile drills in Taiwan Straits besides flying a number of Chinese fighter jets near Taiwanese airspace.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng "urgently summoned" the US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns late Tuesday night and lodged stern representations and strong protests over Pelosi's visit, the highest by a top US leader to Taipei in 25 years.
China views Taiwan as a breakaway province which will one day unite with it. Beijing has not ruled out the possible use of force to reunify the self-ruled island with the mainland.
Noting that the US side shall "pay the price" for its "mistakes" for going ahead with the visit disregarding stern warnings from Beijing, Xie urged the US to immediately address its wrongdoings, take practical measures to undo the adverse effects caused by Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The US must not go further down the wrong path, escalating tensions and making the situation across the Taiwan Strait and China-US relations irreparable, Xie said.
He added that the US should stop playing the "Taiwan card", stop using Taiwan to contain China in any form, and stop interfering in China's internal affairs.
Stating that Pelosi risks universal condemnation for deliberately provoking and playing with fire, Xie said this is a serious violation of the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communique.
"The move is extremely egregious in nature and the consequences are extremely serious. China will not sit idly by," Xie said.
The visit has a severe impact on the political foundation of China-US relations, and seriously infringes on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said, adding that it gravely undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and sends a seriously wrong signal to the separatist forces for "Taiwan independence".
Xie said the US government must be held accountable as it says one thing and does another constantly distorting and hollowing out the one-China principle.

"The US has deleted key expressions such as Taiwan is part of China from the State Department website, put Taiwan in its so-called 'Indo-Pacific strategy', openly upgraded its ties with Taiwan and increased arms sales to the region and supported separatist activities for 'Taiwan independence," he said.
After arriving in Taipei, Pelosi said that the US delegation's visit "honours America's unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan's vibrant democracy." "Our visit is one of several Congressional delegations to Taiwan -&ndash; and it in no way contradicts long-standing United States policy,&rdquo; she said.
"By travelling to Taiwan, we honour our commitment to democracy: reaffirming that the freedoms of Taiwan &mdash; and all democracies &mdash; must be respected." The 82-year-old top Democratic Party leader said that her "visit reiterates that America stands with Taiwan: a robust, vibrant democracy and our important partner in the Indo-Pacific." Apparently referring to the recent phone talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart Joe Biden, Xie said the US government has indulged rather than restrained Pelosi's wilful act, leading to the escalation of tensions across the Taiwan Strait and seriously undermining the China-US ties.
Washington must take concrete actions to observe the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communique, not support "Taiwan independence"; not look for conflict with China, and not go further down the wrong and dangerous path, Xie noted.
He stressed that the trend of the times cannot be reversed, the will of the people is not to be defied, and those who play with fire will perish by it.
"Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and Taiwan will eventually return to the embrace of the motherland. Chinese people are not afraid of ghosts, pressure and the evil," Xie said.
In the minds of the Chinese people, nothing is more sacred than protecting China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and nothing is more important than safeguarding and realising national reunification, he said.
Xie told Ambassador Burns that no country, no force and no individual should ever underestimate the firm resolve, strong will and great capability of the Chinese government and people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity and to achieve national reunification and rejuvenation.
Besides the harangue from Xi to Burns, there is a deluge of statements from Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the National People&rsquo;s Congress (NPC) and the Defence Ministry spokesman -- all harping on China&rsquo;s redline over Taiwan, which Beijing claims is part of the Chinese mainland.
As Pelosi landed in Taipei on Tuesday night, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) launched &ldquo;massive military drills&rdquo; around the island of Taiwan, including a long-range live fire drill in the Taiwan Straits and a live fire conventional missile drill to the east of the island, with analysts saying China is eyeing the anti-secession campaign against Taiwan authorities and is to concretely speed up the reunification process, the state-run Global Times reported.
The PLA will also conduct a series of live-fire military drills from August 4 to 7 in six different areas that encircle the island of Taiwan from all directions, after Pelosi landed at the Taipei airport, Xinhua news agency reported.
Chinese analysts said there are many options on the table for China to speed up the reunification process. Apart from military drills, the options could include striking Taiwan military targets, just as the PLA did in the previous Taiwan Straits crisis.
China may also pass new legislation for national reunification, sending military aircraft and vessels to enter the island's "airspace" and "water areas" controlled by the Taiwan authorities and ending the tacit cease-fire with the Taiwan military, the Global Times report said.

Meng Xiangqing, a professor at the National Defence University, said the exercises cover areas including an area to the east of Pingtan Island in mainland Fujian province, and off the coast of Keelung Port in northern Taiwan.
“The six major areas of this military exercise are the training areas closest to Taiwan island,” he told mainland state broadcaster CCTV.

After Pelosi's arrival in Taiwan, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong statement, saying that her visit is a "serious violation of the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiques".&nbsp;
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, whose country's ties with China have nosedived in recent years, declined to comment specifically Wednesday on Pelosi's visit. However, he noted: &ldquo;We live in an era where (there is) strategic competition and increased tension in our region and where China has taken a more aggressive posture in the region." &ldquo;But our position on Taiwan is clear," he added. &ldquo;We don't want to see any unilateral change to the status quo and we'll continue to work with partners to promote peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.&rdquo; &nbsp;
Hirokazu Matsuno, the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, a country which is closer to the US and considers China a threat in the Indo-Pacific region, also avoided commenting on Pelosi's Taiwan visit, but raised concern about China's planned live-fire military exercises in the regional seas that encompass parts of Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone. Matsuno said Japan has conveyed Tokyo's &ldquo;concerns&rdquo; to Beijing about the exercise.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait is important not only for Japan's national security but also for the international community, and Japan's position is that we expect peaceful solution of the issues surrounding Taiwan through dialogue,&rdquo; Matsuno said.&nbsp;

Lending its support to its all-weather ally China, Pakistan on Wednesday said Pelosi's visit to Taiwan will have "serious implications" for regional peace and stability. The Foreign Office said Pakistan "is deeply concerned over the evolving situation in the Taiwan Strait,"&nbsp;
Pakistan also reaffirmed its &ldquo;strong commitment to the &lsquo;One-China&rsquo; Policy&rdquo; and firmly supported China&rsquo;s sovereignty and territorial integrity.&nbsp;
Russia &mdash; another Chinese ally and whose invasion of Ukraine has fueled concerns over China's own threat to annex Taiwan by force &mdash; called the visit a &ldquo;clear provocation, which is in line with the United States' aggressive policy aimed at comprehensively containing China&rdquo;. Beijing &ldquo;has the right to take measures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in relation to the Taiwan issue," the government said in a statement.
China and Russia have closely aligned their foreign policies in recent years, with Moscow backing China over Taiwan and Beijing refusing to criticise Russia for invading Ukraine, while accusing the US and NATO of provoking the conflict and levelling punishing economic sanctions against Russia.&nbsp;
Pelosi has made criticism of China and support for Taiwan a key focus in her more than three decades in Congress.&nbsp;
In remarks at a meeting with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday, she said, &ldquo;Today the world faces a choice between democracy and autocracy.&rdquo; &ldquo;America's determination to preserve democracy, here in Taiwan and around the world, remains ironclad,&rdquo; Pelosi said.&nbsp;

 China on Wednesday announced that it has "successfully completed" its week-long and unprecedented military drills encircling Taiwan in retaliation to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the self-ruled island. It also warned that Beijing will organise regular combat patrols as a new normal to enforce its one-China policy.
Initially, the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) announced the war games in the busy Taiwan Strait from August 4 to 7, the day after Pelosi who is the highest-ranking US leader to have visited Taiwan in 25 years, left Taipei after high-level meetings. It later kept extending them, keeping the breakaway island on tenterhooks.
The Chinese military exercises involved hundreds of warplanes, dozens of naval ships, including an aircraft carrier group with nuclear submarine in tow, amid assertions by the official media here that such war games in the busy Taiwan Strait will be a new normal.
The PLA’s Eastern Theatre Command said in a statement on Wednesday that the joint military operations around the Taiwan island have been “completed successfully”.
But the PLA will organise regular combat patrols in the Taiwan region and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity after successfully completing its recent training exercises around Taiwan, Senior Colonel Shi Yi said.
The state-run Xinhua news agency quoted Shi as saying that the Eastern Command will keep a close eye on the changing situation in the Taiwan Straits, carry out training and war preparation, regularly organise combat-ready police patrols across the Taiwan Straits, and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The drills involved forces drawn from all wings of the PLA in the Taiwan Strait virtually laying siege to the breakaway island which Beijing claims as part of its mainland, sparking global concerns of possible military assault by China to annex Taiwan.
