Imran Ansari, a resident of Bade Nawaz Nagar, is in shock over the critical condition of his elder brother, Irfan Ansari.
Irfan, a welder by profession, left home around 11 pm on Monday, intending to board a 1 am train to Itarsi from the Nagpur railway station, an area that was heavily affected by violence, triggered by VHP&rsquo;s protest for the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb, situated in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
The family received a call from the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College &amp; Hospital (IGGMCH), informing them that Irfan had been admitted following an accident.
Imran told PTI on Tuesday that his brother suffered severe head wounds, and a fractured leg, and is currently in the ICU, receiving oxygen.
Despite the severity of the situation, the family has yet to file a police complaint as they remain focused on Irfan's treatment and remain unaware of what transpired during his journey to the station.
In a similar case, 17-year-old Raza Younas Khan, a 12th-grade commerce student, is fighting for his life at a private hospital.
Khan, a resident of Guard Line near Mominpura, was sent by his mother around 10:30 pm to buy milk and curd for the morning sehri. She later received a call at around 11:30 pm from IGGMCH, informing her that her son had been admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
His mother told PTI that her son had gone to purchase milk at nearby Hansapuri, also affected by violence. She received a phone call at around 11.30 am from IGGMCH that Khan was admitted to the hospital.
Khan was subsequently transferred to a private hospital, where he remains on a ventilator. His family is also unaware of the violent situation in their locality and is at a loss as to how their son sustained such serious injuries.
She said a Lakadganj police station official recorded his statement.

In the legislative assembly, he highlighted that the chaos left 33 police personnel injured, with attacks on high-ranking officials, including an assault involving an axe. His deputy, Eknath Shinde, suggested the violence aimed to provoke communal unrest.

<h3>Violence and Clashes Erupt</h3>
Tensions flared in the Mahal area, home to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters, after members of the Bajrang Dal staged a demonstration demanding the removal of Aurangzeb&rsquo;s tomb.
Protesters allegedly burned an effigy of Aurangzeb, which later sparked rumors on social media that a Quran had been set alight.
As news of the alleged desecration spread, violent clashes broke out across multiple neighborhoods, including Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodharanagar, and Kapilnagar.
Mobs set vehicles ablaze, vandalized properties, and pelted stones at police officers and residential buildings.
According to officials, at least six civilians and three police personnel sustained injuries in the violence. Security forces responded with tear gas shelling and baton charges to disperse the rioters.
<h3>Security Measures and Arrests</h3>
Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singhal imposed the curfew under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), restricting movement and banning gatherings in affected areas.
The curfew applies to police station jurisdictions in Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodharanagar, and Kapilnagar.
The order prohibits individuals from moving outside their residences except for medical emergencies and bans gatherings of more than five people.
So far, 15 individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence. During operations to control the situation, Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam was seriously injured, while two other officers sustained minor wounds.
<h3>Extent of the Damage</h3>
Reports indicate that the most intense violence took place along the Chitnis Park&ndash;Shukrawari Talao road, where several four-wheelers and at least two JCBs were torched. Homes and businesses were also vandalized in Hansapuri near Old Bhandara Road, with mobs targeting clinics, shops, and personal properties.
Residents in the affected areas have demanded swift police action against those responsible for the destruction. Many have expressed fear and concern, with some families temporarily leaving their homes for safer locations.
<h3>Political Reactions and Appeals for Peace</h3>
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, urged citizens to remain calm and not be influenced by rumors. &ldquo;The police are working to stabilize the situation. I appeal to all residents to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement,&rdquo; he said.
Union Minister and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari echoed the call for restraint, reminding citizens of Nagpur&rsquo;s long-standing history of communal harmony.
Opposition leaders criticized the state government&rsquo;s handling of the situation. Maharashtra Congress chief Harshvardhan Sapkal accused the administration of failing to maintain law and order, while Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray described the unrest as an unprecedented breakdown of governance.
<h3>The Demand to Remove Aurangzeb&rsquo;s Tomb</h3>
The protest that triggered the violence stemmed from a demand by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to remove Aurangzeb&rsquo;s tomb, citing the Mughal emperor&rsquo;s role in executing Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and destroying Hindu temples.
Similar demonstrations had been organized in Nagpur and suburban Mumbai in recent weeks.
In response to these demands and security concerns, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar police have bolstered security around the tomb. Visitors are now required to register their details and provide identification before entering the site.
A company of the State Reserve Police Force, along with local police and Home Guards, has been deployed to safeguard the area.
<h3>Ongoing Investigation and Caution Against Rumors</h3>
As the city remains on high alert, police are continuing their investigation into the root causes of the violence and identifying those responsible for inciting unrest.
Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from spreading unverified information, warning that legal action will be taken against those found guilty of misinformation.
While the situation remains tense, officials have stated that conditions are currently under control, and further measures will be taken to prevent any resurgence of violence.
Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule is expected to visit the affected areas later in the day to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts.
The coming days will be crucial for ensuring stability in Nagpur as authorities work to restore peace and hold perpetrators accountable for the destruction and violence that unfolded across the city.

The probe led to startling discoveries about the involvement of the victim's daughter-in-law, Archana Puttewar.
Archana, who works as the assistant director of the Town Planning Department, allegedly hired contract killers to murder her father-in-law. The motive was a property dispute valued at ₹300 crore. She had promised the killers ₹1 crore for the job.
The police arrested Archana on a production warrant along with her four associates.
Prashant Parlewar, 59, was arrested by the Nagpur Crime Branch on Tuesday night The other arrested persons are identified as suspected contract killers Neeraj Ishwar Nimje (30), Sachin Mohan Dharmik (29) and Sarthak Bagde (29). Another accused, Payal Nageshwar (28), is the personal assistant of the prime accused.
The suspects have been remanded to police custody until June 15. Archana is set to be presented in court on Thursday. During the investigation, the police seized two cars, an SUV, 140 grams of gold, ₹3 lakh in cash, seven mobile phones, and other materials linked to the crime.
The police uncovered that the murder plan was initially concocted by Archana, Nageshwar, and Bagde, with Dharmik joining later due to the promise of a beer bar licence.

The motive behind the extreme step is under investigation, a police official said.
Shaikh was preparing for NEET. He ended his life by jumping from the seventh floor of a building at around 8.20 pm on Friday, the official added.
He said the police were informed by a security guard of the building.
Shaikh was taken to the state-run Mayo Hospital where he was declared "brought dead", the official added.

Several roads and residential areas have been inundated, said officials. The administration has declared a holiday for schools as a precautionary measure.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is from Nagpur, took to X to share that he is continuously monitoring the rain situation in the city.
&ldquo;There has been incessant rainfall due to which the Ambazari lake is overflowing. The low-lying area around it is affected more due to this. Other parts of the city too are affected,&rdquo; said his office on X.
The deputy CM has instructed the Nagpur collector, municipal commissioner and police commissioner to &ldquo;immediately activate multiple teams for rescuing people who are stuck at few places&rdquo;, Fadnavis&rsquo;s office said.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are also being deployed, it said.
Meanwhile, the local administration moved people from many flooded areas to safer places in the city.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has advised people not to step out of their homes unless for important work. Due to continuous rains, many city roads are waterlogged, it said waterlogged.
The Nagpur centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said &ldquo;severe/moderate thunderstorm with lightning&rdquo; will likely continue at isolated places in Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia districts. There is also a possibility of &ldquo;intense rain at isolated places&rdquo; in these areas, it said.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at many places in Wardha and some parts of Chandrapur, Bhandara and Gondia districts.

The Nagpur police on Wednesday issued an order prohibiting beggars from gathering at places like traffic junctions, footpaths, traffic islands and dividers in the city amid rising complaints of harassment of motorists and pedestrians.
The order was issued under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) which bans the gathering of four or more people in a particular area.
As per the order issued by Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, the restrictions will be effective from March 9 till April 30 "unless withdrawn earlier by the issuing authority".
Apart from the inconvenience faced by vehicle users and walkers, there were also complaints of beggars obstructing the smooth flow of traffic and causing public nuisance, said officials.
Objections, if any, in respect of this order may be emailed to cp.nagpur@mahapolice.gov.in or submitted at the Police Bhavan, Civil Lines, Nagpur, said the department.
Objections shall be duly considered, and necessary modifications, if required, shall be made, said the order.

To maintain secrecy, the girl, a resident of Ambazari area, hit upon the idea of home delivery and started watching YouTube videos. "On March 2, she gave birth to a girl at her home and immediately strangled the newborn to death. She hid the body in a box in her home," the official added.
When her mother returned home, she questioned the girl about her health condition. "The girl narrated her ordeal to her mother, following which she was taken to a hospital. The body of the newborn was sent for postmortem," he said.
A case was registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The charge of murder will be invoked after receiving a postmortem report, the official added.

The caller claimed that bomb blasts would occur at the homes of the famous personalities, according to a Free Press Journal report. The caller said that 25 persons had reached Dadar area in Mumbai to carry out the attacks.
Nagpur police informed their Mumbai counterparts about the threat, and bomb detection squads were deployed, as per the report.
