Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga approved the decision recently and [after] that our department issued the order on January 31, Hindustan Times reported quoting the director of Mizoram&rsquo;s economics and statistics department.

In an order issued on January 31, the Mizoram government has reportedly directed authorities against issuing birth and death certificates to refugees and undocumented immigrants from countries such as Myanmar to ensure there are no claims of citizenship from them, Hindustan Times reported.&nbsp;
The order came amid an influx of refugees from Myanmar since March last year following the military coup in that country.
Around 40,000 people from Myanmar are estimated to be living in the state. Hundreds of refugees from Bangladesh have also recently entered Mizoram.

A court in military-ruled Myanmar on Friday convicted the country's ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi of corruption, sentencing her to seven years in prison in the last of a string of criminal cases against her, a legal official said.
The court's action leaves her with a total of 33 years to serve in prison following a series of politically tinged prosecutions since the army toppled her elected government in February 2021.
She has also been convicted of several other offenses, which previously gave her a total of 26 years' imprisonment. Her supporters and independent analysts say the charges against her are an attempt to legitimise the military's seizure of power while eliminating her from politics before an election it has promised for next year.

Friday's verdict in the purpose-built courtroom in the main prison on the outskirts of the capital, Naypyitaw, was made known by a legal official who insisted on anonymity for fear of being punished by the authorities.

Government spokesperson Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun told the Voice of Myanmar and Yangon Media Group on Thursday that Sean Turnell, Toru Kubota and Vicky Bowman, as well as an unidentified American, were being released and deported.
Myanmar's state-run MRTV later confirmed the reports, but there was no immediate independent confirmation they had been released.

Southeast Asian foreign ministers acknowledged that their efforts to bring peace to Myanmar haven't succeeded and agreed to increase their determination to end violence in the country, where a military takeover last year set off a crisis that threatens to destabilise the region.
Recent events in Myanmar, including a military air strike that reportedly killed as many as 80 members of the Kachin ethnic minority and the execution of political prisoners in July, have heightened worries among members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
At a special meeting on Myanmar in Jakarta, Indonesia, ASEAN foreign ministers said their efforts haven't achieved significant progress and called for &ldquo;concrete, practical and time-bound actions&rdquo; to strengthen the implementation of a five-point consensus the group reached in April last year on ways to seek peace.
ASEAN, which includes Myanmar, has tried to play a peacemaking role since shortly after the country's military seized power in February last year, ousting the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.
The five-point consensus calls for the immediate cessation of violence, a dialogue among concerned parties, mediation by an ASEAN special envoy, provision of humanitarian aid and a visit to Myanmar by the special envoy to meet all concerned parties.
Myanmar's government initially agreed to the consensus but has made little effort to implement it, aside from seeking humanitarian aid and allowing ASEAN's envoy, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, to visit.
But it refused to allow him to meet with Suu Kyi, who was arrested and is being tried on a variety of charges that critics say are contrived to sideline her from politics.
In response, ASEAN has not allowed Myanmar's leaders to participate in its official meetings, though working-level officials have joined some.
&ldquo;The meeting agreed that ASEAN should not be discouraged, but even more determined to help Myanmar to bring about a peaceful solution the soonest possible,&rdquo; Prak Sokhonn, who chaired the meeting, said in a statement.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the ministers expressed their concern and disappointment, and in some cases frustration, with the lack of significant progress in the implementation of the consensus. &ldquo;Instead of progressing, the situation was even said to be deteriorating and worsening,&rdquo; she said.
&ldquo;The acts of violence once again must stop immediately,&rdquo; Marsudi said. &ldquo;Without a cessation of violence, there will be no conducive conditions for the resolution of this political crisis.&rdquo;
A statement issued by Myanmar's Foreign Ministry said it &ldquo;will not be bound by the outcomes of the meeting&rdquo; because it was held by the other nine ASEAN countries without Myanmar's attendance.
It insisted that Myanmar's military government has been implementing the five-point roadmap by cooperating with ASEAN's special envoy, holding peace talks with ethnic rebel groups and providing humanitarian assistance.
The meeting came ahead of ASEAN's annual summit on November 11-13, where a top focus of the leaders will be the Myanmar crisis, which has threatened the group's unity.
ASEAN members traditionally avoid criticizing each other, and the violence unleashed by Myanmar's military is widely seen as exposing the group's powerlessness in dealing with a geopolitical and humanitarian emergency that could affect all of them.
Growing numbers of refugees are fleeing Myanmar and seeking asylum throughout the region.
The US-based group Human Rights Watch said an estimated 70,000 have fled to neighbouring countries since the military took power and urged Southeast Asian leaders to ensure their governments don't force people back to Myanmar.
&ldquo;Rather than protecting asylum seekers from the junta's violence and persecution, regional actors are forcing Myanmar refugees and other nationals back into harm's way,&rdquo; said Shayna Bauchner, a researcher for the group.
Malaysian authorities reportedly have accelerated deportations to Myanmar, returning over 2,000 people since April without allowing the United Nations refugee agency to assess their asylum claims, while Thai authorities have pushed asylum seekers back across the Myanmar border without verifying their protection needs, Human Rights Watch said.

A group of 300 Indians have been held hostage in Myanmar and made do cybercrime activities. A report published by the Times of India said that the hostages were brought from different areas and were lured into illegal activities.
Out of 300 at least 60 hostages from Tamil Nadu reported TOI.
Times of India has reported that these individuals are being kept hostage in Myawaddy in Myanmar, and the area falls outside of Myanmar's jurisdiction. The area is controlled by ethnic armed groups.
As per the Times report, the news came into the limelight after Tamil hostage sent an SOS message requesting Union and Tamil governments for a rescue.
"Raja Subramanian, a fisherman from karaikalmedu appealed the district collector of Karaikal in Puducherry to rescue his son, one of the hostages in Myanmar" The times of India reported.
Quoting Sudhakar, Subramanian's elder son had shared the odd deal of his brother with TOI "Earlier this year, his manager said he was given a promotion and asked him to move to their Thailand office where from he along with others were taken illegally to Myanmar by road."
"People who have sent the SOS messages to their families had told them that they are being held hostage by 'Malaysian Chinese' and are making them work for long hours, anyone who denies doing this work gets the beating" TOI reported.
The Indian embassy in Yangong, earlier had cautioned people by issuing an advisory not to fall prey to such scams which offer jobs, The advisory issued on July 5 had cautioned against 'Unscrupulous elements offering jobs'. Quoting the persons with the knowledge of the matter quoted "30 persons have been rescued so far"

The Indian govt has however pinned the number of Indians stuck in Myanmar at 80-90 with over 50 still needing help or rescue.&nbsp;
'The workers are lured with social media advertisements of highly lucrative data entry jobs in Thailand. Unfortunately, these workers are then illegally taken across the border to the Myawaddy area of Myanmar, which is difficult to access due to the local security situation,' ministry of external affairs
The Myawaddy area is not controlled by the Myanmar govt, it is run by ethnic armed groups,
As per a Times of India report, the situation came to light after some hostages sent an SOS message to the Indian govt saying they were being forced into cybercrime and were subjected to electric shocks on refusal. The men also said that were they being made to work 15 hours a day.
'We would urge Indian nationals to exercise extreme caution before taking up such job offers. It may also be mentioned that the visa on arrival scheme in Thailand does not permit employment,' Bagchi said.

Myanmar's government on Monday announced it had carried out its first executions in nearly 50 years, hanging a former National League for Democracy lawmaker, a democracy activist and two men accused of violence after the country's takeover by the military last year. 

The executions were carried out despite worldwide pleas for clemency for the four political prisoners.&nbsp;

Myanmar's government which is being run by the military junta announced Monday it had carried out its first executions in nearly 50 years, hanging a former National League for Democracy lawmaker, a democracy activist and two men accused of violence after the country's takeover by the military last year.
The executions, detailed in the state-run Mirror Daily newspaper, were carried out despite worldwide pleas for clemency for the four political prisoners, including from United Nations experts and Cambodia, which holds the rotating chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The four were executed &ldquo;in accordance with legal procedures&rdquo; for directing and organizing "violent and inhuman accomplice acts of terrorist killings,&rdquo; the newspaper reported. It did not say when the executions were carried out.
The military government issued a brief statement confirming the report while the prison where the men had been held and the prison department refused comment.
Aung Myo Min, human rights minister for the National Unity Government, a shadow civilian administration established outside Myanmar after the military seized power in February 2021, rejected the allegations the men were involved in violence.
&ldquo;Punishing them with death is a way to rule the public through fear,&rdquo; he told The Associated Press.
Among those executed was Phyo Zeya Thaw, a former lawmaker from ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi's party, also known as Maung Kyaw, who was convicted in January by a closed military court of offenses involving explosives, bombings and financing terrorism.

His wife, Thazin Nyunt Aung, told the AP she had not been informed his execution had been carried out. &ldquo;I am still trying to confirm it myself,&rdquo; she said.
The 41-year-old had been arrested last November based on information from people detained for shooting security personnel, state media said at the time. He was also accused of being a key figure in a network that carried out what the military described as terrorist attacks in Yangon, the country's biggest city.
Phyo Zeya Thaw had been a hip-hop musician before becoming a member of the Generation Wave political movement formed in 2007. He was jailed in 2008 under a previous military government after being accused of illegal association and possession of foreign currency.
Also executed was Kyaw Min Yu, a 53-year-old democracy activist better known as Ko Jimmy, for violating the counterterrorism law. Kyaw Min Yu was one of the leaders of the 88 Generation Students Group, veterans of a failed 1988 popular uprising against military rule.
He already had spent more than a dozen years behind bars for political activism before his arrest in Yangon last October. He had been put on a wanted list for social media postings that allegedly incited unrest and state media said he was accused of terrorist acts including mine attacks and of heading a group called Moon Light Operation to carry out urban guerrilla attacks.
The other two men, Hla Myo Aung and Aung Thura Zaw, were convicted of torturing and killing a woman in March 2021 whom they allegedly believed was a military informer.
The military's seizure of power from Suu Kyi's elected government triggered peaceful protests that soon escalated to armed resistance and then to widespread fighting that some U.N. experts characterize as a civil war.
Some resistance groups have engaged in assassinations, drive-by shootings and bombings in urban areas. Mainstream opposition organizations generally disavow such activities, while supporting armed resistance in rural areas that are more often subject to brutal military attacks.
According to Myanmar law, executions must be approved by the head of the government. The last judicial execution to be carried out in Myanmar is generally believed to have been of another political offender, student leader Salai Tin Maung Oo, in 1976 under a previous military government led by dictator Ne Win.

A Myanmar court on Monday jailed ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi for four years for inciting dissent against the military and breaching Covid rules.
As per an AFP report, Myanmar's junta spokesman Zaw Min Tun said that Suu Kyi was sentenced for two years imprisonment under section 505(b) and another two years under natural disaster law.
The 76 year old Nobel laureate has been detained since the generals ousted her government in the early hours of February 1, ending Myanmar's brief democratic interlude.

"The Chin state chief minister crossed the international border and entered Champhai town on Monday night," the officer told PTI.
He said that 24 lawmakers, including Luai, of Aung San Suu Kyis party, the National League for Democracy, have taken shelter in different parts of Mizoram.
The Myanmarese nationals are provided with shelter and food by civil society organisations and student bodies, while many are sheltered by the locals, the report said.
