<p>Sreeshankar had injured his left knee while training in Palakkad earlier this month.</p>

<p>Star Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has undergone a surgery on his injured knee that ruled him out of the Paris Olympics in July-August.</p>
<p>The 25-year-old, who is a silver medallist at the Asian and Commonwealth Games, underwent the surgery in Doha.</p>
<p>"The surgery was successful under Dr. Bruno Olory at the Aspetar Hospital, Doha. Thank you everyone for all your love and blessings during this tough phase. 18 hours post surgery and I am already walking," wrote Sreeshankar on Instagram.</p>
<p>Dr Olory is a French orthopaedic surgeon.</p>
<p>Sreeshankar had injured his left knee while training in Palakkad earlier this month.</p>
<p>He had made the cut for the Paris Olympics as early as July 2023 when he secured a silver at the Asian Championship in Bangkok with a 8.37m jump (Olympic entry standard 8.27m).</p>
<p>In June last year, Sreeshankar had become only the third Indian to finish in the top three in a Diamond League Meeting with a third-place finish.</p>
<p>"Life writes strange scripts, and some times there is courage in accepting it and moving on. That's what I will do. My journey to a comeback began the minute I injured my knee.</p>
<p>"The road is going to be long, difficult and will take a lot out of me," Sreeshankar had stated while announcing his withdrawal from the Olympics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar's hopes for the Paris Olympics have been dashed following a knee injury sustained during training, necessitating surgery and ruling him out for the entire 2024 season.</p>
<p>Sreeshankar, celebrated for his achievements as an Asian Games and Commonwealth Games silver medalist, had secured his berth for the Paris Olympics after an impressive 8.37m jump, clinching a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships.</p>
<p>The 25-year-old athlete had ambitious plans for the upcoming season, scheduled to kick off with consecutive appearances at the Diamond League Meetings in Shanghai/Suzhou and Doha on April 27 and May 10, respectively. However, fate dealt a harsh blow as he suffered a setback during training, abruptly halting his Olympic aspirations.</p>
<p>Expressing his disappointment, Sreeshankar shared his sentiments in a social media post, lamenting the sudden turn of events. "Unfortunately, in what feels like a nightmare, but is a reality, my Paris Olympics dream is over," he revealed.</p>
<p>Acknowledging the setback, Sreeshankar exhibited resilience and determination, vowing to overcome the adversity. "All my life, I had the courage to look at a setback in the eye, accept situations I can't change, and work hard at dictating the outcomes of those I can," he affirmed.</p>
<p>Drawing inspiration from basketball legend Kobe Bryant, Sreeshankar embraced the "Mamba Mentality," signifying a mindset of resilience and unwavering determination in the face of challenges.</p>
<p>"My journey to a comeback began the minute I injured my knee. The road is going to be long, difficult and will take a lot out of me," he acknowledged, displaying optimism amidst adversity.</p>

Indian men's pair of Sharath Kamal-G Sathiyan and Sanil Shetty-Harmeet Desai advanced to the round of 16 by winning their respective matches.
Manika Batra and G Sathiyan also had a comfortable outing as the mixed-doubles pair Seychelles' Laura Sinon and Mick Crea 3-0 to enter the round of 16.
