Stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui was among 14 people detained by Mumbai police in a late Tuesday night raid on a hookah parlour in the Fort area in south Mumbai, officials said on Wednesday. According to Mumbai Police, a case was registered against Faruqi and 13 more people. Faruqui was later let off after the case was lodged. "Though it was a bailable offence, the police gave notice and let Faruqui go. The police are investigating the matter," the police said.
According to police, the hookah parlour in the city's Fort area was being run illegally and ₹ 4,400 in cash and nine hookah pots worth ₹13,500 were seized during the raid on Tuesday.&nbsp;
"Our team raided a hookah bar in Mumbai after getting information about tobacco being used under the guise of herbal. After examining the things found there, a case was registered and 14 people were taken into custody. Faruqui was also among the people," an official said. Munawar was one of the most popular contestants of the 17th season of the Colors show. He hogged the limelight ever since he entered the Bigg Boss house.&nbsp;

When asked about Singh's invitation to Kamra and Faruqui, Mishra, who is the state government's spokesperson, said, “If there is any show insulting Hindu deities in Madhya Pradesh, then its place will be in jail. No one will be allowed to play with the feelings of any section of society at any cost." Faruqui was last month denied nod to hold a show in Bengaluru amid protests by some right-wing outfits. A few days later, Kamra, a vocal critic of the government, said his stand-up shows, scheduled to be held in the Karnataka capital, were cancelled after the organisers received threats.
Earlier this year, Faruqui had spent a month in jail at Indore after a BJP MLA's son lodged an FIR in January accusing the comedian of hurting religious sentiments through his show.

Later, BJP MLA from Bhopal Huzur Assembly constituency, Rameshwar Sharma, had said he will not allow shows of anyone who has disrespected Hindu deities not only in Bhopal but also in the rest of Madhya Pradesh.

A comedian has withdrawn a video from social media platforms after an organisation run by a Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA's son accused him of hurting religious sentiments.
Ranjeet Kaushal, also known as Ranjeet Bhaiya, told PTI on Saturday that he got a call from a person from `Hind Rakshak', an outfit run by BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaud's son Eklavya.
A Hind Rakshak spokesperson said Kaushal withdrew the video about Navratri after the organisation issued him a "first and last warning".
Eklavya Singh was in news earlier this year when he filed a case against comedian Munawar Faruqui for allegedly cracking jokes about Hindu deities, leading to the latter's arrest.
