Adhikari&nbsp;and Roy are former members of Trinamool&nbsp;Congress, and are now with the BJP.&nbsp;The CBI told the court that since the crime took place in 2014 when Adhikari and Mukul Roy, along with other accused like TMC leaders Kakali Ghosh Dastidar and Sougata Roy, were Members of Parliament, it did not get necessary sanction for prosecution from a competent authority. That&rsquo;s why it failed to file a chargesheet against them, the CBI told the court.
The other accused who were arrested on May 17 were Members of the Legislative Assembly then. The CBI got sanction for prosecution from Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar for Firhad Hakim, Madan Mitra, Subrata Mukherjee, and Shovan Chatterjee and they filed chargesheet against them.

On Monday, the special CBI court granted bail to all four leaders. However, the&nbsp;Calcutta High Court stayed&nbsp;the bail after the CBI challenged the order. A division bench said that they shall be treated to be in &ldquo;judicial custody till further orders&rdquo;.

The&nbsp;Bharatiya Janata Party&nbsp;on Wednesday named candidates for 148 of 159 West Bengal Assembly seats which will poll in the last four phases. The list includes heavyweights such as national vice-president Mukul Roy, senior leader Rahul Sinha, sitting MP Jagannath Sarkar.
Mukul Roy, who unsuccessfully contested 2001 Assembly polls on a Trinamool ticket, will return to electoral battle after 20 years from Krishnanagar Uttar constituency in Nadia district. His son and other TMC turncoats have also been named in the list. Actor Rundranil Ghosh, who recently joined the saffron brigade, has been fielded from the high-profile Bhabanipur constituency in Kolkata, which is currently held by Chief Minister&nbsp;Mamata Banerjee. The Trinamool supremo decided to contest from Nandigram this time, leaving her home constituency to senior leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay.

Bengal BJP's march: bombs hurled, teargas fired, several wounded

Parts of Kolkata and Howrah resembled a battle zone on Thursday as BJP workers and supporters clashed with police, hurling stones and blocking roads with burning tyres, to protest a string of killings of saffron party workers.

Senior leader Rahul Sinha, who was dropped as the national secretary, lashed out at the party top brass saying, this was his reward for dedicated service for 40 years. In a video message, Rahul Sinha claimed that he will articulate his 'stand' and 'next step' in the coming 10 to 12 days. Targeting newly appointed office-bearers Mukul Roy and Anupam Hazra, both turncoats from the Trinamool Congress, Sinha said he has been dropped to pave way for TMC leaders who have joined the BJP. Mukul Roy, once considered the number two in the TMC, had switched over to the BJP in 2017 after differences with Mamata Banerjee.
