Termed as monetisation 4.0, this cycle is driven by new cash flow streams, improved valuation multiples, and favorable economic conditions such as a business upcycle, strong domestic demand, and reduced competition. Investment bank and financial services firm Morgan Stanley is slashing around 50 investment banking jobs in the Asia-Pacific region, reported Reuters. As per the report, the job cuts come due to a slump in deal activity.

The bulk of cuts is aimed at China and Hong Kong, impacting approximately 13% of the 400 bankers in the Asia Pacific region excluding Japan. This will be the second job cuts in China by Morgan Stanley this year. In March the firm had &nbsp;laid off about 9% of its staff at its asset management business in the country.&nbsp;

The firm also revised its growth forecast for the ongoing financial year upwards to 7.9%, indicating a robust growth trajectory for the country. According to Morgan Stanley, India's GDP is expected to maintain its momentum, with an estimated growth rate of approximately seven per cent in the fourth quarter of FY24, ending in March 2024.
A key highlight of the revised forecast is the anticipation of a balanced growth pattern across various sectors, including rural-urban consumption and private-public capital expenditure, in FY25. This convergence is expected to contribute significantly to India's economic resilience and stability.
Furthermore, the brokerage firm foresees a favorable inflation outlook, with recent trends suggesting a decline in headline inflation. Factors such as softening food inflation and a reduction in core inflation due to improved supply chain dynamics are expected to support this trend. Additionally, Morgan Stanley predicts a gradual easing of monetary policy, driven by sustained traction in industrial and capital expenditure activities.
These optimistic revisions underscore India's economic strength and stability, positioning it favorably in the global market. Looking ahead, Morgan Stanley projects headline inflation to average 4.5% in FY25, down from 5.4% in FY24, while core inflation is anticipated to remain subdued at 4.1%.

Challenges such as slower-than-expected global growth, elevated commodity prices, and changes in global financial conditions could pose threats to India's growth trajectory and macroeconomic stability. Morgan Stanley has upgraded India to 'Overweight' from 'Equal weight'. This comes as the brokerage firm believes that India is just at the start of a long wave boom given its relative valuations are 'less extreme' than in October and the nation&rsquo;s reform and macro-stability agenda supports a strong capex and profit outlook.
Now, India has become the core overweight market for Morgan Stanley within the Asia Pacific Ex-Japan and Emerging Markets basket. On March 31, Morgan Stanley upgraded India from 'Underweight' to 'Equalweight' citing a narrowing valuation premium and a resilient economy.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley has cut China's stocks to equal weight, saying investors should capitalise on a rally spurred by government stimulus pledges to take profits. It also added that growth and valuation concerns remain in China.
The brokerage firm said that both India and China are in stark contrast. With GDP per capita only $2,500 against $12,700 for China and positive demographic trends, India is arguably at the start of a long wave boom at the same time as China may be ending one, it said. The household debt-to-GDP ratio in India is just 19% while it is 48% for China.&nbsp; &nbsp;

After Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup, investment bank Morgan Stanley is considering a 7% cut in its Asia-Pacific investment banking workforce.&nbsp;
According to a report by Bloomberg, the bank will start communicating with affected bankers as soon as this week. Over 40 jobs are at risk including those with the capital markets unit. Other divisions might also be impacted slightly.&nbsp;
The report further adds that the cuts would mainly impact the investment banking and capital markets business in the region, not including Japan.&nbsp;

The job cuts follow recent downsizings at other large accounting firms and consultancies.

Investment banking giant Morgan Stanley is preparing to cut around 3,000 jobs, reported Bloomberg. This would roughly account to 5% of staff excluding financial advisers and personnel supporting them within the wealth management division. This will be second round of job cuts by the company within a six month period.&nbsp;
As per Bloomberg, this decision comes as the bank grapples with a tough economic environment and a slowdown in dealmaking activity. This round of layoff will take place in second quarter of 2023. The company had let go 1,200 employees in December 2022.&nbsp;
After the first round of layoff that slashed nearly 2% of the workforce, Morgan Stanley has a total of 82,000 employees. The decision to cut more jobs come as the banking giant reported a drop in profit during the first three months of year.&nbsp;
As per Economic Times, the US investment and financial services giant said in a recent earnings report that its profit dropped 20% in the first three months of this year amid a slowdown in mergers and acquisition advising.
