Book on Sidhu Moosewala's killing and investigation to be out soon

Published by Westland Books, it looks at the events of May 29, 2022, which is the day the Punjabi hip-hop star was shot

&nbsp;A new book gives a detailed account of the death and the subsequent investigation into the murder of Punjabi singer-rapper Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu -- popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala.
"Who Killed Moosewala?", scheduled to release on Monday, is written by journlaist-author Jupinderjit Singh. Published by Westland Books, it looks at the events of May 29, 2022, the day the Punjabi hip-hop star was shot by six armed assailants while driving to his aunt's house in a village in Punjab.
"While reporting on it (Mossewala's death) I felt that news stories were not going to be enough and I decided to write this book... The weight of responsibility to stick to the facts pressed upon my soul, especially because the investigation is still ongoing. The toll on me is immeasurable, yet through it all, I persisted, driven by a desire to shed light on the murder that reminds us all of the fragility of life," said the author in a statement.
An icon for many, Moosewala had also been a controversial figure. There were allegations that he promoted gun culture and violence, and rumours that he had ties with certain gangs.
With his sudden and violent death, the questions about his life became louder -- as also those around his death. 'Who had killed Moosewala?' was what everyone wanted to know.
In the gripping and fast-paced book, the author closely follows the investigation into Moosewala&rsquo;s death and also offers us glimpses into the man he was behind the mask of celebrity.
Besides the story of the slain singer and those behind his murder, this book is also a rumination on the growing unrest in Punjab.

Out of the six shooters who allegedly killed Moosewala, three have been arrested, two have been killed in police encounter while one is still absconding.
She said they fully cooperated with the government and police but justice has yet not been delivered to them.
"More than three months have passed, we have given enough time to government and administration, but they are taking undue advantage of our gentleness," she said.
Had they refused to cremate him for two days, the administration would have something, she said.
On people calling her a 'sherni' (a lioness), Kaur said she was an ordinary person, but "I have become a sherni for seeking justice for my child".
Kaur announced that if they don't get justice for their son, she and her husband will start a protest.
Addressing the gathering at the "final prayers" on June 8, the singer's emotional father had said he still does not understand what was his son's fault that led to his killing.  They won't rest until the singer gets justice, he had then said.  On August 14, Moosewala's father had claimed that his son could not decipher that those who were claiming to be his friends would become his enemy one day, and said that he will soon reveal their names.
Addressing a gathering in Mansa, Balkaur Singh had said his son made his name worldwide with his singing.
Some 'black sheep' became enemies of his career,  Singh had said.
Canada-based Goldy Brar, who is a member of the Lawrence-Bishnoi gang, had claimed the responsibility of the Moosewala's murder.Police have said Moosewala's killing was in retaliation of youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera's murder that took place last year.

A manager of a jewellery showroom here has alleged that he received an extortion call from Canada-based Goldy Brar, a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, following which an FIR has been lodged.
According to the complaint filed by Sachin Kumar, a resident of Delhi, he works at a jewellery showroom in Gold Souk Mall, Sector 43 as manager and at around 11:30 am he got the call from a 16-digit number on his mobile phone.
An FIR has been registered at Sushant Lok police station.
“The caller claimed that he is Goldy Brar from Canada. He asked about the jewellery showroom and I told him that I am the manager here. He said that we collected a lot of money and asked me to either arrange Rs 5 lakh by evening or I will be killed. I approached the police,” Kumar said.
Following the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the unknown caller under IPC sections 387 (extortion), and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) at Sushant Lok police station and the investigation assigned to the crime unit.
“Our teams are on job and I hope the accused caller will be arrested soon ”, said Preet Pal Singh Sangwan, ACP, crime.
Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar had taken responsibility for the sensational killing of Punjabi singer and Congress politician Sidhu Moosewala recently.
Bishnoi is also a suspect in the case.

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has told investigators that his gang's members, including Canada-based Goldy Brar, hatched a conspiracy and killed Sidhu Moosewala, officials said on Friday.
According to them, Bishnoi, who is in the custody of the Delhi Police's Special Cell, has alleged that Moosewala was involved in the killing of Akali Dal youth leader Vikramjit Singh alias Vicky Middukhera on August 7 last year which led to a "rivalry" between him and the Punjabi singer.
Bishnoi has been very uncooperative and has not yet disclosed the names of his gang members who were the real conspirators being the killing, officials said.
The 28-year-old singer-politician was shot dead by some unidentified assailants in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, a day after the Punjab government curtailed his security cover.
The Delhi Police Special Cell, which is probing the matter, got the custody of Bishnoi for three days after arresting him from Tihar in a case registered under the Arms Act, officials added.
"Bishnoi has been very uncooperative so far. But during interrogation, he accepted that he had a rivalry with Moosewala and claimed that his gang members killed the singer.
"He has revealed that Goldy Brar was one of the gang members who conspired and executed the killing of Moosewala but has not yet disclosed the names of other associates who were the real conspirators and executioners of the killing," a police official said.
The official said, "Bishnoi has not disclosed the exact motive behind executing the killing and has been uncooperative about revealing other details about the murder." Bishnoi, who is facing nearly 60 cases, was lodged in Central Jail number eight of Tihar.
Gangster Kala Jathedi and his aide Kala Rana, who were in police custody in a different case, were also questioned in connection with the killing of Moosewala.  According to officials, after questioning Bishnoi in Tihar prison, he was produced at the Patiala House court and was remanded in three days of police custody for questioning in connection with the case where three criminals were arrested after a brief encounter with the Special Cell's unit last month.
During interrogation, the arrested criminals had disclosed that the weapons recovered from them were supplied by Bishnoi, a senior police official said.  The development came a day after a Delhi court refused to entertain a plea filed by Bishnoi seeking a direction to the jail authorities not to give his custody to Punjab police, which suspects that he had plotted the singer's killing.
Bishnoi has moved the Delhi High Court under the apprehension of a fake encounter by the Punjab Police.
The Punjab Police had earlier said Moosewala's killing seemed to be the result of an inter-gang rivalry and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was involved in it.
