A 55-year-old assistant professor was arrested for allegedly molesting 12 students at the Government Degree College in Roorkee, the police said Friday.
According to the complaint filed by a victim, Dr Abdul Alim Ansari allegedly touched the students inappropriately during the viva of the B.Sc practical examinations on Thursday afternoon, the police said, adding that the incident occurred in a closed room.
Ansari also allegedly wrote his mobile number on the palm of a student, asking her to call him at night after returning home, Gang Nahar police station inspector in-charge RK Saklani said.
When a victim shared what she went through after coming out of the room, the other students revealed how they had also been touched inappropriately by the professor.
After being confronted by the students, Ansari allegedly threatened to cut their marks.
As the matter came to light, the students protested demanding stern action against the professor, who also teaches at another college in Bhagwanpur near Roorkee.
Following the protests, the college management called the police to pacify the angry students.
A complaint was filed by one of the victims following which Ansari was arrested, Saklani said.
During interrogation, Ansari admitted that he had touched the girls, however, he said that he had no bad intentions behind his act. When asked if he wrote his mobile number on a student's palm, he could not give a satisfactory answer, the police said.
Meanwhile, the two practical examinations conducted by Ansari on Wednesday and Thursday have been cancelled, college authorities informed.

Kerala teacher arrested for allegedly molesting 26 students

The senior teacher was arrested under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on January 12 based on complaints from the district Childline authorities, police said.

Kerala police has arrested a 52-year-old teacher of an aided school in the district for allegedly molesting 26 students since November 2021.
The senior teacher was arrested under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on January 12 based on complaints from the district Childline authorities, police said.
"A student recently narrated the abuse she faced to another teacher of the school. She immediately informed the Childline authorities who later informed us. We got the complaint on January 11," police told PTI.
The official said upon further counselling, more students raised complaints against the senior man.

Maha: Mother alleges molestation by driver, co-passengers; her toddler flung out of cab

When the woman resisted, they snatched away the baby girl and flung her from the speeding cab, the woman told police.

A ten-month-old girl died after she was flung from a cab on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maharashtra's Palghar district while her mother was allegedly molested on Saturday morning.
The woman too was pushed out of the vehicle and sustained serious injuries, said a police official.
The woman and her daughter were returning from Pelhar to Poshere in Wada tehsil in a cab which they shared with some other passengers, she said.
On the way, the cab driver and some co-passengers allegedly molested the woman.

The child died on the spot, the official said.
The woman too was pushed out of the cab.

A woman has alleged that bouncers of a club in Delhi's South Extension Part-1 misbehaved with her and tore her clothes , police said on Saturday.
According to police, the incident happened on September 18 at around 2:14 AM, when they got a call from the victim woman.
Police reached the spot and found that the woman's clothes were messed up and disordered, and on enquiry, she alleged that her clothes were torn by two bouncers and the manager of the club, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chandan Chowdhary said.
She further alleged that she was misbehaved and hit by them, and they had also touched her inappropriately. The accused persons' identities were established and the victim was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre for the treatment, police said.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC was registered on the complaint and further investigation was conducted, they said.
The complainant said that she had come to the club along with her friends for a party, where they had arguments over entry and the bouncers became aggressive and had beaten her and her friends, the DCP said.
During investigation, the CCTV cameras of the club and other neighbouring showrooms were being analysed. Apart from that, the details of the bouncers had also taken from the club and efforts are being made to arrest the real culprits, police said.
The woman's statement was recorded before the magistrate at Saket court, police said.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) said the woman had boarded the passenger train from near Lakhan Majra in Rohtak to travel to Tohana.
The incident took place on Thursday night, a GRP official said.
The SHO of GRP police station, Hisar, Naresh Kumar said the woman was travelling with her son.
"The passenger train was on its way from Delhi to Tohana and the woman and her son had boarded it from Lakhan Majra," he said.
He said a majority of passengers had got off from the train at a previous station and most coaches were empty when the incident took place near Tohana station where the woman had to get down.
The woman's husband was waiting at Tohana station.
He said the woman resisted attempts of the accused to harass her, but was allegedly pushed down from the running train and she died due to the injuries.
Kumar said when the train reached Tohana, her son, who was crying profusely, narrated the incident to his father after which the police were informed. The woman's body was later found near the tracks at some distance from Tohana, he said.
"A case has been registered against the accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 302 (murder) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty)," the police official said.

Punjab Home Minister Atta Tarar announced the emergency. He reportedly said that 4-5 rape cases are being reported every day in the state, and special measures are needed to counter sexual harassment, abuse, and coercion. The government announced that the Cabinet Committee on Rape and Law &amp; Order will review all these cases.

In June 2002, a woman named Mukhtaran Mai had been gangraped on orders of the village council as punishment for her brother's relationship with a woman from a rival tribe. In April 1999, 28-year-old Samia Sarwar had been shot dead allegedly be her family for seeking a divorce over domestic violence.
In light of such distressing cases, Pakistan ranks 167 out of 170 countries on the Global Women, Peace, and Security Index. According to police records, 41,000 women went missing in Pakistan's Punjab province in the last 5 years, and over 3,500 of them had not been found by March 2022.
Studies say that at least 32% women in Pakistan have experienced physical violence, and 28% women aged between 15 and 49 years have been victims of intimate partner violence. Experts agree that these figures are conservative. Meanwhile, the conviction rate is limited to 1% to 2.5% in crimes against women.
The imposition of an emergency in Pakistan's Punjab has been sparked by an alarming spike in violence. On 14 June, a rickshaw driver allegedly raped a teenage girl in Muzaffargarh. On 27 May, a 25-yr-old woman was allegedly gangraped on a Karachi-Multan train. A day earlier, robbers allegedly raped a minor girl in front of her family in Pattoki. On 22 May, a bus driver working with a private company allegedly raped a woman in Bahawalpur.
With panic gripping women, Pakistani authorities have announced a slew of measures. The steps include fast-track DNA examination by forensic labs to identify assailants. The government is also running anti-rape campaigns to spread awareness.
The authorities are also telling parents to not leave children unattended at home. Additionally, students will be sensitised at school regarding sexual harassment. The government will also consult civil society, women's rights activists, and teachers for prevention of sexual crimes.
It remains to be seen whether measures like imposition of emergency are effective in ending an entrenched culture of crimes against women and subsequent impunity in Pakistan.

The Mumbai Police have arrested an Ola cab driver from Goregaon for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl and making obscene gestures towards her on May 25. Shocking video of women being molested in broad daylight has emerged from Madhya Pradesh.&nbsp;Opposition party Congress tweeted a video of women being assaulted by multiple men, even as passers-by mutely watched.&nbsp;Congress claimed the video was from Alirajpur.
In the video, two women are seen next to a vehicle when two men assault them.&nbsp;Even as the first two assailants leave, more come forward to molest the women, while the large crowd present does nothing to rescue the victims.
Congress criticised the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in the state for failing to protect women.
The incident reportedly occurred during the Bhagoria tribal festival, which is being celebrated in many parts of Madhya Pradesh.&nbsp;The districts of Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Barwani, and Khargone are reportedly celebrating the festival.&nbsp;Police claimed to have detained two accused, but the main accused is yet to be taken into custody, as per an NDTV report.
