Bipin Singh came to haunt Mohun Bagan once again as a gritty Mumbai City FC rode on the midfielder's strike to secure a stunning 3-1 comeback win and grab the ISL title for a second time in front of a packed Salt Lake Stadium crowd on Saturday.

Bipin Singh came to haunt Mohun Bagan once again as a gritty Mumbai City FC rode on the midfielder's strike to secure a stunning 3-1 comeback win and grab the ISL title for a second time in front of a packed Salt Lake Stadium crowd on Saturday.
In front of 62,007-strong crowd, the home side roared into the lead with Jason Cummings (44th) strike at the stroke of half-time.
But the Islanders levelled things up when Jorge Pereyra Diaz (53rd) silenced the crowd from Alberto Noguera's magnificent straight pass from the midfield.
Their moment of reckoning came in the 81st minute as Bipin came off the bench to score the decisive second goal to help Mumbai snatch the lead.
It was Bipin's 90th minute strike that had helped Mumbai City FC win their maiden title in 2020-21 when they overturned an identical 1-0 lead to down Mohun Bagan 2-1.
Nine minutes were added to the second-half, and Mohun Bagan had enough time to bring on the equaliser but their forwards lacked the sting and the Islanders nailed the final nail in the coffin with a 90+7th minute strike by subsitute Jakub Vojtus.
It also crushed Mohun Bagan's dream of becoming the first team to defend the ISL Cup and complete a rare double of winning the League Winners Shield and the title.
Sergio Lobera-coached Mumbai City FC had achieved the rare feat in their memorable 2020-21 season.
But it was not a day for Mohun Bagan's shrewd 66-year-old Spaniard tactician Antonio Lopez Habas who appeared in a record fourth ISL final.
Three weeks after the Islanders failed to defend the Shield going down to the same team 1-2 at the same venue, the Petr Kratky-coached side dished out a much-improved show right from the start.
They controlled the possession and initiated a flurry of attacks with Lallianzuala Chhangte in the thick of things, and also hit the post twice in the first half-an-hour's play.
In the 30th minute, Chhangte whipped in a freekick from an angle as it sailed over a scrambling Vishal Kaith, only to hit the crossbar and bounce out.
A couple of minutes later, Chhangte outpaced Subhasish Bose, receiving a through ball.
Instead of shooting, he passed it back into the six-yard box, but there were no Mumbai men to tap the ball in.
Kaith and the Subhasish Bose-led defence stayed under pressure, dealing with Mumbai's attacking threats.
Suddenly, Mohun Bagan lifted the atmosphere by storming into the lead.
Liston Colaco played a precise pass to Dimitri Petratos who unleashed a thunderous strike from 40 yards out as Lachenpa flapped it back into the six yard box in a sloppy goalkeeping effort.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man, Mohun Bagan's chief marksman Jason Cummings sprang into action latching onto the loose ball and calmly chipped it over Phurba Lachenpa with his effortless left-footer.
But the lead did not last long as Mumbai equalised soon after the break.
A special mention should go to Spaniard Alberto Noguera for his pinpoint accuracy in delivering a sublime pass from the midfield straight into the box.
The Mohun Bagan defence was caught off guard by it as the Argentine forward seized the opportunity, effortlessly bypassing Manvir Singh without Anwar Ali to contend with. With a deft left-footed touch, Diaz calmly slotted the ball past Kaith, who stretched out his left leg in a desperate attempt to save, but to no avail.
Three years after he struck the winner in a close-door final at Margao, Bipin once again made the difference after he came on the field replacing Noguera in the 69th minute.
Chhangte dodged past Joni Kauko and took a weak shot, but Bipin's second attempt deflected off Hector Yuste and into the net, securing the decisive goal.
Jakub capitalised on Bipin's hold-up play, receiving the ball and calmly passing it to Vikram Pratap Singh, who then set up Bipin for a shot blocked by Anwar.
However, Jakub pounced on the rebound and fired it past the fallen defender to seal the issue.

After a flurry of attacks went abegging thanks to a resolute display by Amrinder Singh under the bar, Mohun Bagan finally struck the winning goal by comeback man Sahal Abdul Samad who came off the bench to strike from Manvir Singh's assist in the stoppage time.
The goal came just when the match was meandering towards extra-time as the 62,000-plus capacity crowd at the Salt Lake Stadium erupted in joy with chants of 'Joy Mohun Bagan' reverberating in the stands.
The victory came two weeks after Mohun Bagan won their maiden League Winners Shield at the same venue by defeating Mumbai City FC 2-1 to top the top-tier competition.
No team in the history of ISL has completed a double and Mohun Bagan will look to achieve the rare feat by taking on the winners of Mumbai City and FC Goa in the summit clash slated here on Saturday.
Mumbai City are ahead 3-2 before their return leg semifinal on Monday.
On a sultry evening, Mohun Bagan's former marksman Roy Krishna came close to scoring on more than one occasion in the first-half but the home team defence held on.
They finally showed superb poaching skill to go 1-0 up in the contest and make it two-all on aggregate just before the half-hour mark.
Liston Colaco skillfully set up Dimitri Petratos with a pass from the edge of the box.
It led to a powerful shot that Amrinder sloppily deflected into the danger area, where Cummings showed excellent instincts to score with a simple tap-in.
Making a comeback from injury, Sahal who was included in the 71st minute replacing Anirudh Thapa finally produced the magic moment after several of their attempts went abegging.
It was Manvir Singh, who ran down the right flank to brilliantly set up the goal in the middle of the box, as Amrinder came off his line.
Lurking inside, Sahal showed brilliant presence of mind by refraining from using his hand as the ball ricocheted off his body and crossed the goal line.
Till then, there were many anxious moments for the home side as they squandered about half a dozen chances with Colaco and Petratos in the thick of things.
Amrinder also put up a brave front and denied several Mohun Bagan attempts, be it from Anirudh Thapa or Colaco.
Odisha got their best chance in the 45+5th minute but it was a fine goalline clearance by Hector Yuste that kept Mohun Bagan alive.
Subhasish Bose couldn't keep up with Krishna who received a Jahouh pass, created space in the midfield, and set up Isak as he struck past Vishal Kaith but the Spaniard covered his goalkeeper well from behind.

This was Mohun Bagan's first victory over the two-time Shield Winners across four seasons as the Mumbai heavyweights were also unbeaten over them in the previous eight matches, winning six of them.
The win also sealed their berth in the AFC Champions League 2 for the first time as 60,000 chanted 'Mohun Bagan, Mohun Bagan' reverberated across the Salt Lake Stadium stands.
This marked the conclusion of the League stage as the competition now moves to playoffs of six teams that begin on April 19.
The top two teams, Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City will directly play the semi-finals, while the sides from third to sixth -- Goa, Odisha, Kerala Blasters and Chennaiyin -- will play single leg playoff in a knockout format to determine the other two semifinalists.
The ISL summit clash will be on May 4.
Mohun Bagan also had a special guest in KL Rahul, skipper of their sister IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants, to cheer for them.
There was more drama in store as Mohun Bagan was reduced to 10 players soon after when Brendan Hamill was sent off following his second yellow after a goalmouth melee.
The referee signalled 10 minutes of stoppage time as the Antonio Lopez-coached side put up a brave front to see through it to seal the deal.
The Subhasish Bose-manned defence also stood tall throughout the match as they played in unison thwarting every attack by the Mumbai men.
The win also capped a double delight for Mohun Bagan who began the season winning the Durand Cup.
It was followed by arch-rivals East Bengal's Super Cup win, while the other of the Big Three Mohammedan Sporting made it a triple treat for the Maidan to win the I-League thus earning a berth for the ISL next season.
The icing on the cake came at the Salt Lake Stadium when Mohun Bagan was crowned the Shield winners, making it four titles by the Kolkata Maidan this season.
Less than a year after he scored in the Central Coast Mariners A-League win, the Australian forward struck again for the Kolkata Mariners almost sealed the deal giving them a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Like he had set up Colaco's opening goal with an assist, Dimitri Petratos was again in the thick of things as he delivered an accurate pass for Cummings inside the box to hit into the bottom corner.
Earlier, it was the India centre-forward Colaco's brilliant strike that had given the Mariners a lead in front of a sellout crowd.
Abhishek Suryawanshi passed it on to Petratos who dribbled in the midfield to set it up Colaco on the edge of the box in the left flank.
Colaco beat two defenders before striking it past Phurba Lachenpa to make amends for his earlier miss when his 20th minute struck off the post.
