The Congress has&nbsp;urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct an inquiry into allegations that newly appointed Union Minister&nbsp;Nisith Pramanik is a Bangladeshi national.
Rajya Sabha member and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Ripun Bora in his letter to the PM, claimed that the reports in news channels and other media outlets, showed that Pramanik a&nbsp;Bangladeshi national.
Quoting the reports, the MP claimed that the union minister's birthplace was Harinathpur under Palasbari police station in Gaibandha district of Bangladesh and he reportedly came to West Bengal for computer studies.
Bora claimed that after getting a computer degree, he first joined the Trinamool Congress and later the BJP and was elected as an MP from Cooch Behar.
The Congress leader claimed that&nbsp;Pramanik showed his address as Cooch Behar in election papers "by manipulation".
Bora said the TV channels also highlighted the "jubilant scenario", including a statement of "his elder brother" and some villagers of his native village in Bangladesh expressing their satisfaction on Pramanik being appointed as union minister of state for home.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday hosted the women ministers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reshuffled council of ministers at her residence.In the recent reshuffle, seven BJP MPs have been inducted into the council. Following the reshuffle, PM Modi's Council of ministers now includes 11 women -- nine among them are ministers of state.&nbsp;Smriti Irani, Meenakshi Lekhi, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Anupriya Patel, Renuka Singh, Annapurna Devi, Pratima Bhowmik, Bharati Pawar, Shobha Karandlaje, Darshana Jardosh were present at the informal meeting. One of the key points of the reshuffled Cabinet was increasing the women representation. The 2019's Council of Ministers had six women faces -- 3 Cabinet ministers and 3 ministers of state. From six, the number has now been raised to 11, though after Harsimrat Kaur Badal's resignation, the number of Cabinet ministers has gone down to two.
