Both Doval and Mishra worked on their respective crucial posts during the last two tenures of the governments headed by Modi.

Spymaster Ajit Doval and seasoned bureaucrat P K Mishra were on Thursday re-appointed to the post of National Security Adviser and principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a fresh five-year term.
Both Doval and Mishra worked on their respective crucial posts during the last two tenures of the governments headed by Modi.
With the fresh appointment, Doval has become the first NSA to be appointed to the key post for three consecutive terms.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the two appointments with effect from June 10, 2024, the Personnel Ministry said.
Their appointment "will be co-terminus with the term of the prime minister or until further orders whichever is earlier", it said in identical orders.
Both Doval and Mishra will be assigned the rank of Cabinet Minister in the Table of Precedence and terms and conditions of their appointment will be notified separately, the ministry said.
Doval, who belongs to the 1968 batch of Indian Police Service, retired as Intelligence Bureau chief in 2005. He was appointed as the NSA for the first time on May 30, 2014, and re-appointed for another term on May 31, 2019.
During his first tenure, Doval is believed to have played a pivotal role in the surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the Uri terror attack.
He has also been widely hailed for his contribution to the national security domain, including his role during the Balakot air strike after the Pulwama terror attack, officials said.
Doval, known as one of the best operational brains in intelligence circles, was one of the main negotiators from India with the hijackers of Indian Airlines plane IC-814 taken to Kandahar in 1999.
He worked with the IB for more than 33 years in different roles and in areas including the Northeast, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab. He served in the United Kingdom as well.
Another key officer, Mishra has held various key positions at the Centre and in the Gujarat government.
He served as Additional Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Modi's first term as the Prime Minister from 2014 to 2019.
Mishra, a 1972 batch retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre, was re-appointed to the same post with effect from May 31, 2019, during Modi's second term.
He was in September 2019 appointed as the principal secretary to the PM. His term was on a co-terminus basis with Modi's tenure.
Mishra had served between 2001 and 2004 as the principal secretary to Modi when he was the Gujarat chief minister.
A veteran bureaucrat, he was the secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture between December 1, 2006 and August 31, 2008.
After his retirement, Mishra was appointed the chairman of the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission for a five-year term.
Meanwhile, the ACC has also approved the reappointment of former Indian Administrative Service officers Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor as advisers to the PM for two years with effect from June 10, 2024.
Khare, a 1985 batch retired IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, was in October 2021 appointed as adviser to Modi.
Kapoor, a 1987 batch retired IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, was named as the adviser in May 2022.&nbsp;

Diplomat-turned-politician S Jaishankar on Tuesday assumed charge as external affairs minister for the second consecutive term. He underlined the issues in focus with respect to China and Pakistan.
"In any country and especially in a democracy, it is a very big deal for a government to get elected three times in a row. So the world will definitely feel that today there is a lot of political stability in India," said Jaishankar.
"As far as Pakistan and China are concerned, the relations with those countries are different, and the problems there are also different. Our focus with regard to China will be on finding a solution for the border issues and with Pakistan, we would want to find a solution to the issue of years-old cross-border terrorism," he added.

The Union Cabinet in its first meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday approved government assistance for the construction of three crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
This was the first meeting of the Union Cabinet of Modi 3.0 government held at the Prime Minister's 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence. The meeting was attended by ministers of all allies of the NDA.

"It has been decided in the Cabinet meeting today to provide assistance to three crore additional rural and urban households for the construction of houses to meet the housing requirements arising out of the increase in the number of eligible families," officials said.
The government of India is implementing the PMAY since 2015-16 to provide assistance to eligible rural and urban households for the construction of houses with basic amenities.
Modi lauded the decision as a boost for "ease of living" and dignity for crores of Indians.
He said on X, "This decision underscores the government's commitment to addressing the housing needs of our nation and ensuring that every citizen leads a better quality of life. The expansion of PMAY also highlights our government's commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare." Under PMAY, a total of 4.21 crore houses have been completed for the eligible poor families under the housing schemes in the last 10 years.
All the houses constructed under PMAY are provided basic amenities like household toilets, LPG connection, electricity connection and functional household tap connection through convergence with other schemes of the central and state governments.

Anurag Thakur won the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. This was his 5th Lok Sabha win. Thakur served as Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Minister of Information and Broadcasting in Modi government 2.0. He also served as Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs earlier.&nbsp;
According to reports, the reintroduction of JP Nadda to the Cabinet led to Thakur's exclusion. The saffron party reportedly did not want two ministers from Himachal.
<h3>Ravi Shankar Prasad</h3>
Veteran BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, won from Bihar's Patna Sahib. He has been an MP since 2000, and served as Union Minister on several occasions. In 2014, under the first Modi government at the Centre, he was appointed Minister of Law and Justice and Minister for Communications and Information Technology.&nbsp;
Later, he took charge of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. In 2021, he once again held the Communications portfolio.
<h3>Rajiv Pratap Rudy</h3>
Rajiv Pratap Rudy is a five-time Lok Sabha MP and he get a Ministerial berth despite winning Bihar's Saran seat thrice in a row. He has served as the &nbsp;Minister of State for Commerce, Trade &amp; Industry and Aviation Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government.&nbsp;
In 2014, he became the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the Modi-led government. He also shared the Parliamentary Affairs department jointly with Minister of State, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. &nbsp; Narayan Rane
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane was excluded from the Cabinet, even though he won from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg. In the second Modi government, he served as &nbsp;Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.&nbsp;
<h3>Parshottam Rupala</h3>
Parshottam Rupala is a veteran BJP leader, and served as Minister in the first and second Modi governments. This time, he did not get a Cabinet portfolio despite scoring a massive victory in Gujarat's Rajkot.
