The Prisons department in Delhi has suspended two deputy superintendents, one assistant superintendent, one head warder and one warder following the recovery of mobile phones from Mandoli jail, officials said on Friday.
Five jail officials -- Deputy Superintendents Pradeep Sharma and Dharmender Maurya, Assistant Superintendent Sunny Chandra, Head Warder Lokesh Dhama and Warder Hansraj Meena -- were suspended following the recovery of mobile phones from Mandoli jail, according to prison officials.
Director-General (Prisons) Sanjay Baniwal has directed all jail superintendents to form search teams and detect mobile phones and other prohibited articles in their prisons, they said.

In the last fortnight, 117 mobile phones were recovered by members of jail staff during search operations conducted in all prisons. These seizures will continue in the future, the officials added.
Baniwal had constituted a special vigilance team at Prison Headquarters for a major crackdown on the smuggling of communication gadgets into jails.
The team, along with 104 Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel, conducted a raid on December 18, leading to the recovery of eight mobile phones.&nbsp;

Mobile phones banned inside temple premises across Tamil Nadu 

It further directed the Hindu Religious &amp; Charitable Endowments (HR &amp; CE) Department to follow a decent dress code in all the temples in Tamil Nadu.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Friday directed the Commissioner of Hindu Religious &amp; Charities Endowments Department to prohibit the use of mobile phones inside the temple premises to maintain the purity and sanctity of temples in Tamil Nadu.
The court issued the order after hearing a public interest case filed by one Seetharaman, seeking a ban on the use of cell phones inside the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple in the state's Tiruchendur.
While delivering the order, judges R. Mahadevan and J. Sathyanarayana Prasad said: "In order to ensure the safety of the devotees and protect the sanctity of the temple, the authorities should take steps to prevent the use of cell phones inside the temple premises. The use of cell phones and cameras distracts the devotees."

Noting that there is already a ban on mobile phones in Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, Sri Krishna Temple in Guruvayur, and Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati, the temple authorities have banned mobile phones in Tiruchendur temple.
It further directed the Hindu Religious &amp; Charitable Endowments (HR &amp; CE) Department to follow a decent dress code in all the temples in Tamil Nadu.

Man arrested for stealing mobile phones worth Rs 50000000

The accused has been identified as Deepak, a native of Dewas district in Madhya Pradesh, a police spokesperson said.

Haryana Police on Friday said it arrested a man for allegedly stealing mobile phones worth Rs 5 crore.
The accused has been identified as Deepak, a native of Dewas district in Madhya Pradesh, a police spokesperson said.
Deepak, along with his accomplices, had on May 27 looted mobile phones from a container truck of a firm located in Bawal town of Rewari district, he said.
The accused first kidnapped the truck driver and then committed the crime, the spokesperson added.
A case in this connection was registered at Kasola police station in Rewari on May 28, he said, adding Depak was absconding since then.
He is already facing three criminal cases in Madhya Pradesh, the spokesperson said.

To avoid detection, criminals keep changing their method of communication, like using voice and video call features of social media platforms, to sending voice recordings.
But how do jail inmates get access to phones? The mobile devices can be handed to inmates by acquaintances during jail meetings or court hearings. In some cases at Tihar, mobile phones were wrapped in cloth or socks and thrown over the boundary wall of the jail. The other way is to either bribe or coerce jail staff.
The hiding places are quite unique, and disturbing. In August 2019, a Tihar prisoner swallowed 4 mobile phones. Doctors made him vomit three out, but the fourth was had to be surgically removed from his rectum.
In August 2021, an NIA team probing the case of a bomb scare outside Mukesh Ambani's house seized two phones at Tihar from the alleged chief of Indian Mujahideen. In January 2022, an inmate swallowed a phone to hide it, and doctors had to fish it out using a snare.
With such instances occurring at regular intervals, most recently in the Moose Wala and Lawrence Bishnoi case, questions have been raised about the situation at high-security prisons like Tihar.
In April 2022, Delhi government reportedly told Supreme Court that mobile signal jammers and X-ray scanners were being installed at Tihar. Earlier, in November 2021, Tihar authorities had said that 3 mobile signal jammers had been installed at the premises.
It remains to be seen how effective such steps are.
