The 72nd annual Miss Universe pageant was held in El Salvador on November 18 which featured participants from 90 diverse countries.
While Miss Nepal Jane Dipika Garrett broke the stereotype by being the first ever curvy participant at the Miss Universe platform, Miss Pakistan Erica Robin made heads turn with her costume at the swimsuit round as she walked down the ramp in a 'burkini'.&nbsp;
<h3>What is a 'burkini'?</h3>
Burkini is a combination of a &lsquo;burqa&rsquo; and a &lsquo;bikini&rsquo;. Erica walked confidently and gracefully wearing the pink light and loose kaftan designed by Rubin Singer in collaboration with the Miss Universe Organization, which was highly appreciated.&nbsp;

Nicaragua's Sheynnis Palacios mentioned British writer and women's rights advocate Mary Wollstonecraft in her answer to the final question at Miss Universe 2023.

At a glamorous event held in El Salvador on November 19, Sheynnis Palacios sealed her place in history by becoming the first-ever Miss Universe from Nicaragua.
The 23-year-old clinched the title with the final answer that paid tribute to 18th-century British writer, philosopher Mary Wollstonecraft regarded as fierce champion of women's rights.
Wollstonecraft is popular for her contributions to feminist philosophy as her ideas laid the foundation for modern feminism, challenged prevailing social norms and arguments in favour of women to be given the same educational opportunities as men.
Wollstonecraft lived a short life as she died at the age of 38, shortly after giving birth to her daughter, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, who later became Mary Shelley and is famous as the author of 'Frankenstein'.
The question Palacios was asked at the event was, 'If you could live one year in another woman&rsquo;s shoes, who would you choose and why?'
She responded by saying, 'I would choose Mary Wollstonecraft because she opened the gap and gave an opportunity to many women. And what I would do, I would want that income gap to open up so women could work. In any area, they choose to work in because there are no limitations for women. That was 1750. Now in 2023, we are making history'.

Australia's Moraya Wilson was the second runner-up and Thailand's Anntonia Porslid was crowned the first runner-up at the beauty pageant.

After an intense contend between 90-country candidates, Miss Nicaragua emerged as the 72nd Miss Universe. Advancing to the final round alongside her were Miss Thailand and Miss Australia in the beauty pageant.
Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel passed over the precious crown to her successor. The crowd erupts in cheers as Nicaragua wins the title of Miss Universe 2023, with Miss Thailand coming in first place.&nbsp; Second runner-up Moraya Wilson of Miss Australia and first runner-up Anntonia Porsild of Miss Thailand respectively took home the titles in the Miss Universe contest. The 2023 Miss Universe pageant took place on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time /5 p.m. Pacific Time and Nov 19, 6:30 AM Indian Standard Time. The organisers have announced that China would be represented in the Miss Universe 2024 competition the following year by the 2023 Miss Universe China!

Miss Universe 2023, which is scheduled for November 18 in El Salvador&rsquo;s Jos&eacute; Adolfo Pineda Arena, will not have Qi Jia, the Chinese representative.&nbsp; Taking to the Instagram, the Miss Universe China official page posted, &ldquo;The Miss Universe competition areas will take place from November 15 to 18. The organizing committee and the champion, Ms. Jia Qi, applied for visa procedures as soon as her coronation was announced and actively prepared for the world finals, however, due to the delay in issuance, she flew to El Salvador as soon as the visa was granted and he lost more than a week of activities, which made it impossible for him to compete in this year&rsquo;s international event.&rdquo; &nbsp; The 72nd edition of Miss Universe is scheduled to take place from November 15-18. &nbsp; The organisers have announced that China would be represented in the Miss Universe 2024 competition the following year by the 2023 Miss Universe China! &nbsp; The event will be hosted and presented by TV personalities Jeannie Mai Jenkins and Maria Menounos.&nbsp; What sets this year's pageant apart?&nbsp; This Miss Universe pageant will focus on progress and inclusivity.
