India on Tuesday&nbsp;got its first woman underground coal miner with Jharkhand&rsquo;s Akanksha Kumari breaking all the sealing.
In a tweet shared, Central Coalfields Limited - a subsidiary of Coal India - said that Akanksha Kumari became is the second mining engineer in the Maharatna Conglomerate Coal India Limited (CIL) and the first one to work in an underground coal mine.&nbsp;
Born in Hazaribagh&rsquo;s Barkagaon,&nbsp;Kumari&nbsp;joined Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) at its Churi underground mines in the North Karanpura area of Jharkhand.
Akansha, a resident of Barkagaon in Hazaribagh, completed her graduation from&nbsp;BIT Sindri. Belonging to a mining belt, Kumari said the mysteries of mining always fascinated her.
Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi, along with the&nbsp;official Twitter account of the Ministry of Coal congratulated the engineer and wrote: "You are an inspiration to many women."

Women in India were barred from working in underground mines until as recently as 2019, when the government&nbsp;amended&nbsp;the law. Women in India as per data available comprise of less than a quarter of the labour force.

1999 coal scam: Former minister Dilip Ray convicted

Former Union minister Dilip Ray was on Tuesday convicted by a special court in New Delhi in a coal scam case pertaining to irregularities in the allocation of a Jharkhand coal block in 1999.

Former Union minister Dilip Ray was on Tuesday convicted by a special court in New Delhi in a coal scam case pertaining to irregularities in the allocation of a Jharkhand coal block in 1999. Ray was minister of state for coal in the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. The court also convicted two senior officials of the Ministry of Coal at that time, Pradip Kumar Banerjee and Nitya Nand Gautam, Castron Technologies Ltd (CTL), its director Mahendra Kumar Agarwalla and Castron Mining Ltd (CML). The court will hear arguments on the quantum of sentence on October 14. The case pertains to allocation of Brahmadiha coal block in Giridih in Jharkhand to CTL in 1999.
