Women-centric films have always struck a chord with the audience as they try to ensure that the female population gets their due credit and respect onscreen. Even though there&rsquo;s still a long way to go, there are a few films that have tried to show the power of women and their resilience.
Here are five women-centric Bollywood films that should be on everyone&rsquo;s watchlist.
Mimi (2021) Director: Laxman Utekar Cast: Kriti Sanon,Pankaj Tripathi,Sai Tamhankar Mimi, an aspiring actress from a small town, agrees to bear a child for a visiting couple seeking a surrogate mother. However, her experience takes unexpected turns.
Pink (2014) Director &ndash; Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury Cast - Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Vijay Varma, Angad Bedi Mrinal, who is molested by a politician&rsquo;s nephew, tries to file an FIR against him with the help of her friends. Deepak, a retired lawyer, helps them to fight the case when the subsequent case gets rigged.
Mardaani (2014) Director: Pradeep Sarkar Cast: Rani Mukerji, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jisshu Sengupta, Saanand Verma, Avneet Kaur Rani plays the role of a fearless senior inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy who works hard to uncover a Delhi-based child trafficking cartel.
English Vinglish (2012) Director: Gauri Shinde Cast: Sridevi, Adil Hussain, Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand Shashi, a middle-class housewife and caterer, is mocked by her family members for not knowing English. She tries to learn the language which helps her rediscovers herself and she gets to know her worth.
Kahaani (2012) Director: Sujoy Ghosh Cast: Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chatterjee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saswata Chatterjee The thriller drama shows a pregnant woman, played by Vidya Balan, who travels from London to Kolkata to find her missing husband. She tries to solve the riddle of the conspiracy behind her husband's disappearance. However, the film ends with a shocking twist.

Filmfare 2022, held on Tuesday (August 30). The event was a star-studded affair. Kriti Sanon got applause for her performance in Laxman Utekar’s directorial ‘Mini’ as the actor bags the best actor award for the portrayal of her role of Mimi.  Thrilled by the appreciation, the actor penned a thanking note on her Instagram along with the reel of her sleeping with filmfare ‘black lady’. She wrote, ‘I ain’t sleepin alone tonight! Filmfare 2022: Kriti Sanon bags the Best Actor award for her performance in the film &lsquo;Mimi&rsquo;.

Kriti Sanon is on cloud nine after she bagged the Best Actor in a Lead Role (female) award for &lsquo;Mimi&rsquo; at the 67th Filmfare Awards on Tuesday night (August 30). Taking to Instagram, she penned a gratitude note, saying that her dream has come true. She posted a video in which she is seen kissing her trophy and she wrote the her heart is full as the black lady is finally hers and thanked Filmfare for this much-needed. In her note, she also thanked director Laxman Utekar for giving her the opportunity to headline &lsquo;Mimi&rsquo;, in which portrayed the role of a surrogate mother.&nbsp;
As soon as Kriti posted the clip, her comment section was filled with congratulatory messages. Ranveer Singh and Rhea Kapoor were among those who commented on her post.&nbsp;

Kriti Sanon is on cloud nine now and she has every right to there. The reason? Well, she has bagged her first ever ‘Best Actress’ award at the 'IIFA 2022'. It took her 8 long years to bag her first 'Best Actress' award.
After receiving the award, Kriti took to social media and posted, "Dreams do come true! All you need to do is keep working hard towards it and never lose faith! It has taken me 8yrs to get my first #BestActress award. But I’m so happy that I received my first for #Mimi - a film I’ll treasure forever, a character that will always be special in my filmography! Thank you @iifa for this validation and for an amazing evening!!  Will always be grateful to #Dinoo @laxman.utekar sir for making me your Mimi for life and the whole cast and crew of Mimi for making this journey so memorable!”.
On the work front, Kriti Sanon will now be seen in films including ‘Adipurush’, ‘Ganapath’, ‘Bhediya’, ‘Shehzada’ and also Anurag Kashyap's next project.

Kriti Sanon is on cloud nine after bagging her first Best Actress Award at the 22nd edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards. The actor was honoured for her performance in the 2021 film &lsquo;Mimi,&rsquo; co-starring Pankaj Tripathi. &nbsp;
Kriti Sanon shared a picture of her with the trophy on social media and mentioned that it took her eight years to win her first Best Actress award. &lsquo;Dreams do come true. All you need to do is keep working hard towards it and never lose faith,&rsquo; she wrote.
She further added that &lsquo;Mimi&rsquo; is a film that she&rsquo;ll forever treasure and the character will always be special in her filmography. Kriti wrote that she is grateful to the whole cast and crew of &lsquo;Mimi&rsquo; for making this journey so memorable. She also thanked IIFA in her post for the validation and an amazing evening.
The comedy drama &lsquo;Mimi&rsquo; has been directed by Laxman Utekar. The film narrates the story of a young woman who opts to be a surrogate for a foreign couple.

In 'Sherni', she plays an IFS officer who does her job with integrity taking on patronising men, while she tries to resolve a man-animal conflict. The film exposes the deep fault lines of our patriarchal culture, while delivering a nuanced social message.

The duo has nothing in common, but decide to team up and escape, and the result is chaotic. The film underlines a story of class division, corporate greed, misogyny, and privilege, with protagonists from opposing worlds battling for coexistence. 
Ankahi Kahaniya | Netflix'Ankahi Kahaniya' is an anthology of three short films depicting unusual love stories unfolding in large cities. The poignant stories include a store employee who falls in love with a mannequin at the shop he works in, a young romance set in the age of single-screen theatres, where watching a film together would mean seeing the person you love, and finally an urban couple in plush Mumbai who come together due to their cheating spouses.
Bell Bottom | Amazon Prime'Bell Bottom' starring Akshay Kumar is based on a series of plane hijackings set in the 1980s, that resulted in the Indian government caving into terrorist demands, and engaging an undercover agent code-named 'Bellbottom' to save 210 hostages.
