NASA released a picture of a 'globular cluster' that contains thousands, if not millions of glittering stars. The Hubble Space Telescope caputred the image of the globular cluster NGC 6569 in the Sagitarrius constellation. 
Globular clusters are stable and tightly bound groups that contain tens of thousands to millions of stars. They are bound together in a tight gravitational bond and are usually much larger than open clusters. The strong gravitational bond between the stars gives them the speherical shape hence the name 'globular'. 
Globular clusters usually contain older, redder stars more than in open clusters. Redder stars in open clusters usually disperse before they become old. Strong gravity also provides stability in globular clusters resulting in a longer life span, allowing stars to reach billions of years of age. 
Star clusters of all kind are of equal and great interest to astronomers because the constituent stars would have approximately been formed at the same time and locations having similar internal compositions. Thus the clusters offer useful insights into the formation and evolution of stars. However, studying individual stars within globular clusters is not possible because of their tightly-wound shape. 
The new image from Hubble comes from an investigation of globular clusters which lay close to the centre of the Milky Way galaxy. Previous studies did not venture into this because the dusty centre of the galaxy blocks out light from the clusters and also alters the colours of the stars within them. A star's colour helps astronmers determind its age, composition and temperature. 
The scientists who made these observations combined information from Hubble with data from astronomical archives, which allowed them to measure the ages of globular clusters like NGC 6569. Their research also helped give insights into the structure and density of globular clusters towards the centre of the Milky Way.

Since then astronomers have come across another object in the universe--a free-floating black hole. With the help of gravitational microlensing this phenomenon was spotted in deep space.
Gravitational microlensing is the process used by astronomers to observe light from a star far behind the black hole, which brightens momentarily before being deflected by an object that passes in front of it. The object is the black hole.
Astronomers from UC Berkeley estimate that the mass of this invisible compact object could be somewhere between 1.6 to 4.4 times that of the sun.
There is another opinion among astronomers that the object could be a neutron star rather than a black hole. Neutron stars are dense, highly compact objects, but their gravity is balanced by internal neutron pressure, which prevents further collapse of a black hole.
“This is the first free-floating black hole or neutron star discovered through gravitational microlensing. With microlensing, we’re able to probe these lonely, compact objects and weigh them. I think we have opened a new window onto these dark objects, which can’t be seen any other way,” Jessica Lu, a UC Berkeley associate professor of astronomy, and lead author said in a statement.
The wandering black hole lies about 5,000 light-years away, in the Carina-Sagittarius spiral arm of our galaxy. Its discovery though has paved a way for astronomers to believe that the nearest black hole to Earth might be as close as 80 light-years away.
Two teams observed the microlensing event, one from Berkley and another from the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore.
The STScI team led by Kailash Sahu estimates the black hole is traveling across the galaxy at an incredibly fast speed of 1,60,000 kilometers per hour. At that speed, one can reach Earth from the Moon in less than three hours.
