The Tamil Nadu police have registered a case against web portal OpIndia&rsquo;s CEO, Rahul Roushan and editor, Nupur Sharma on charges of 'spreading fake news' about targeted violence against migrant labourers, The Indian Express reported.
The FIR was registered on a complaint by Suryaprakash, a member of the ruling DMK's IT cell.
The case against Sharma and Roushan has been filed under IPC sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (statements conducting to public mischief).

"We are satisfied by the steps taken by Tamil Nadu government and the district administration in ensuring safety of the workers to allay the fears from their minds," he said.

A day after holding talks with Tamil Nadu government authorities over the brewing migrant workers issue in Chennai, the official delegation from Bihar visited knitwear hub Tirupur on Sunday to check on the safety of workers from the northern state after fake videos claiming attacks on the workforce had led to panic among them.
Led by Bihar Rural Development Secretary D Balamurugan, the four-member team expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Tamil Nadu government and the Tirupur district administration to ensure safety and protection of the workers.
They discussed the issue with the officials including District Collector S Vineeth and Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar, representatives of textile industry and contractors who bring in workers from other states, Balamurugan said.
The delegation also interacted with the workers and told them not to believe in rumours and fake videos, after which they regained their confidence, as many of them considered the information coming from them to be true, the senior officer said.

Amid reports of targeted attack on people from Bihar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday vowed to protect migrant workers.
In a statement, Stalin said that the state govt and people stand to protect migrant brothers, NDTV reported.
This comes after rumours about attacks on migrant workers from Bihar spread across social media, which has led to panic among the workers. Tamil Nadu officials have however dismissed reports of attack on workers from Bihar as fake.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Friday decided to send a team to Tamil Nadu for looking into allegations of attacks on migrants.

International Players' union Fifpro, the Building and Wood Workers' International and the International Domestic Workers Federation have developed a digital platform to help these workers with employment

In a bid to support migrant workers in Qatar involved in the process of building stadiums and other facilities for the football world cup, three trade unions have launched a digital service that helps them with legal assistance against exploitation.
International players' union Fifpro, the Building and Wood Workers' International and the International Domestic Workers Federation have developed a digital platform to help these workers with employment. The app also provides the labourers with information on their rights.
The three unions, as per The Guardian, said Qatar authorities have overlooked their request for migrant workers' welfare including labour reforms, constitution of a Migrant Workers' Centre in the Islamic nation.

The move, as per these unions, is a vision that seeks "to ensure a positive and sustainable impact for people engaged in the delivery of major football events."
The aim is to create better working conditions and advancement of migrant workers' rights and conditions, the statement added.
The user friendly app will be available in seven languages: English, Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Filipino, Hindi, Nepali.
The worker community in Qatar is reportedly not given access to essential information including information on their rights, amended employment law, abolition of kafala system. The initiative aims to cater to these areas and inform labourers about their rights.

FIFA confirmed the migrant worker died during the group stage phase of the tournament which started on 20th November and ended on 2nd December.

A Filipino migrant worker named 'Alex' has died in Qatar in an incident at The Sealine Beach Resort, which was used by the Saudi Arabia national football team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, according to the government.
He was reportedly fixing lights in a hotel car-park, without a safety harness, and fell to his death.
No date was provided for the death, only that it happened during the group stage phase of the tournament which started on 20th November and ended on 2nd December.

Football's world governing body - FIFA - confirmed the incident and a Qatari government official said, "If the investigation concludes that safety protocols were not followed, the company will be subject to legal action and severe financial penalties.
"Compensation is paid through the Workers' Support and Insurance Fund when a worker has been injured or passed away due to a work-related incident, or when an employer is unable to pay salaries."
Meanwhile, a campaign group mounted a protest in the hometown of FIFA president Gianni Infantino calling for immediate compensation for migrant workers who died or were exploited while building infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup.
Global citizen activism group Avaaz drove billboards through Brig in southern Switzerland, after 725 thousand people had signed an Avaaz petition calling on Infantino to establish a compensation fund of around 440 million dollars.
Avaaz spokesperson Andy Legon said of Infantino: "His family actually moved here as migrant workers, so we're hoping this is a timely reminder of the fact that he needs to compensate the many migrant worker victims of this World Cup."
Although Qatar has never provided exact figures for the number of deaths of foreign labourers, it has refuted claims by human rights groups that thousands have died.
