A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Mexico on Tuesday near the Pacific coast, the National Seismological Service said. The quake was so intense that it left the buildings shaking in the capital several hundred kilometers away.
The epicenter was 11 kilometers southeast of the beach resort of Acapulco in Guerrero state, officials said.
The earthquake was felt strongly in parts of Mexico City, sending residents and tourists spilling into the streets from homes and hotels.
There were no early reports on damage in the city, however some residents said that electricity was knocked out in some neighbourhoods.

The global coronavirus death toll has passed another milestone, exceeding 8,90,000 deaths&nbsp;as confirmed by researchers at Johns Hopkins University.
The caseload stands at more than 27.2 million worldwide.&nbsp;The United States remains at the top of the chart in terms of the cases and deaths, with 6,296,629 cases and 189,114 deaths, accounting for more than 20% of the global deaths.
India is at the second spot, with over 42,04,613 cases.
Brazil recorded 126,650 deaths, while other countries with over 30,000 fatalities include Mexico, Britain, Italy, and France.
