Centre wants to keep Kashmir pot boiling for votes: Mehbooba Mufti

&nbsp;PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said the Centre wants to keep the pot boiling in Jammu and Kashmir to garner more votes in elections.
Her remarks come in the wake of the dismissal of three employees by the Jammu and Kashmir government for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities and the attaching of properties of militants.
&ldquo;In the name of fighting militancy, govt employees are dismissed arbitrarily &amp; houses attached without giving the families any chance to avail the due legal course. This is collective punishment for innocent families &amp; upends their lives,&rdquo; Mufti wrote on Twitter.
The former chief minister said the &ldquo;muscular iron fisted policy&rdquo; may appeal to the BJP vote bank in the country, but in Jammu and Kashmir, "it is not only wreaking lives but further alienating people here from rest of the country&rdquo;.
&ldquo;GOI wants to keep the Kashmir pot boiling to use it in elections to garner votes,&rdquo; she added.
In its ongoing action against terrorists operating from Pakistan, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday attached a property of The Resistance Front (TRF) operative Basit Ahmad Reshi in Baramulla district.

The action follows the sealing of a Srinagar-based property of the founder and self-styled chief commander of the Al-Umar Mujahideen, Mushtaq Zargar alias 'Latram', on Thursday. Reshi, a "listed terrorist" under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), has been operating from Pakistan after his exfiltration there. He has been found funding terror activities and acts in the Kashmir Valley, an NIA spokesperson had said.
Besides three government employees, including a schoolteacher recently arrested for allegedly carrying out several blasts, were dismissed from service for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities, an official said.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration ordered the dismissal of government middle school teacher Arif Sheikh of Reasi, Junior Engineer (Public Works department) Manzoor Ahmad Itoo of Bandipora and Syed Saleem Andrabi of Kupwara, an orderly in the Social Welfare department, under Article 311 of the Constitution, a government spokesperson said.
Article 311 of the Constitution provides for dismissal of a person employed in civil capacities under the Union or a State.

Asked if her party's alliance with the BJP after the 2014 assembly elections was a mistake, Mehbooba said her father took the decision after carefully considering it.

Criticising the ongoing anti-encroachment drive, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday accused the BJP-led Centre of using Jammu and Kashmir to divert the attention of the country from pressing issues such as unemployment and the Adani row.
"To divert the attention from the Adani issue and the damage it has done to the economy of the country, they (BJP) don't get anything better than Jammu and Kashmir, like demolition drive," Mehbooba told reporters here.
Asked about Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments about the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the former chief minister said, "They do not make statements, they make jumlas." "He himself said the promises of two crore jobs and Rs 15 lakh in every bank account were election jumla (rhetoric)," she said.
Mehbooba said Shah was the first home minister in the history of independent India who turned a state into a Union territory.
On the demolition drive, she said the BJP earlier used to brand the people of Jammu and Kashmir as anti-nationals but has now started labelling them as encroachers.
"Land in JK belongs to the people of JK. I urge the people to take control of their land, be it through mohalla committees or panchayats... Earlier they used to call us anti-nationals, now it is encroachers. We are not encroachers," she said.
The PDP president alleged that the administration was carrying out anti-people measures to keep people "so busy that they don't have time to think about anything else".
"But they should realise that there is a sentiment here ... people want to resolve the issue on the terms of equality. You cannot jail that sentiment,&rdquo; she said.
Asked if her party's alliance with the BJP after the 2014 assembly elections was a mistake, Mehbooba said her father took the decision after carefully considering it.
"My father took a very well thought-out decision. He wanted to prevent this situation. Till we had a coalition government, nothing like this had happened. After the government fell, they repealed Article 370 and took other steps,&rdquo; she said.
The PDP president said people can criticise her as they have a right to do so.
On the proposal to make the Hindi language compulsory in all schools in Jammu and Kashmir, she said the Centre should try this in southern India first.
&ldquo;They are not able to do anything in the south but in Jammu and Kashmir they are doing everything... They have silenced the people. We have nothing against Hindi but our language is Urdu. If they have the courage, let them do it in the south first,&rdquo; she added.&nbsp;

Police prevented PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti from taking out a march to Parliament here on Wednesday to protest against an ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by scores of party workers, Mehbooba planned to march from Railway Bhawan to Parliament, where she wanted to inform opposition parties about the Jammu and Kashmir administration's "bulldozer policy".
However, police detained the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, and took her and her party workers to Jantar Mantar. The protesters dispersed from Jantar Mantar.
"We had come to inform the public, opposition parties and members of the ruling BJP about the misery faced by the public at large in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sensing the loss of her political ground and resultant frustration, Mufti has tried to defame ECI, said Chugh.
"These politicians have always won riding on the boycott calls and proxy voters. They have misused the people&rsquo;s emotions and it was all good till the things suited them according to their plans,&rdquo; the BJP leader said targeting the regional parties in J&amp;K.
He said that when &ldquo;these politicians&rdquo; know that they cannot win using &ldquo;petty gimmicks&rdquo; anymore, they have started questioning the integrity of ECI.
"You have enjoyed all the official luxuries and enjoying them till date legally or illegally but never hesitate to question the integrity of these highest institutions for your own benefit,&rdquo; Chugh said.
Election commission of India is an unbiased agency working on its own and its working pattern is lauded all over the world. &ldquo;Stop speaking and acting on the lines dictated by Pakistan,&rdquo; he said.

Mufti said her attempts to visit Bhat's family at Chotigam were "scuttled" by the administration.
"The same administration claims that locking us up is for our own security while they themselves visit every nook &amp; corner of the Valley," she added.&nbsp;

She posted a photograph from the 1950s showing India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru addressing a gathering in Srinagar's Lal Chowk.
"Jawahar Lal Nehru standing tall between two flags, the Indian national flag &amp; J&amp;Ks state flag adopted constitutionally in 1952 &amp; bulldozed in 2019 to fulfil BJPs divisive agenda. Now, every foundational value that the Indian flag stands for too lies in peril," she said.
She questioned the claims of the Jammu and Kashmir administration that scores of Kashmiris had hoisted the national flag on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day.

With the debate over a ban on hijabs continuing in the country, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti alleged a grand design in the controversy.
Linking the issue to the ongoing Uttar Pradesh elections, the People's Democratic Party chief said that those behind the hijab row might not stop at the Islamic headdress, and subsequently target other Islamic symbols.
She said, "This is being used for UP elections. But I fear that this won't stop at hijab. After this, other symbols will be targeted. They don't want India's Muslims to be Indians. They want to end their Muslim identity. They want to get rid of symbols."

With the debate over a ban on hijabs continuing in the country, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti alleged a grand design in the controversy.
Linking the issue to the ongoing Uttar Pradesh elections, the People's Democratic Party chief said that those behind the hijab row might not stop at the Islamic headdress, and subsequently target other Islamic symbols.
She said, "This is being used for UP elections. But I fear that this won't stop at hijab. After this, other symbols will be targeted. They don't want India's Muslims to be Indians. They want to end their Muslim identity. They want to get rid of symbols."

Another former CM of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, also alleged a BJP conspiracy to win elections behind the hijab row. "One has the right to eat what one wants, wear what one wants, do what one wants, as long as the well-being of the nation isn't threatened.&nbsp;People have their own religions.&nbsp;This is an attack on religion. There are some extremist elements. They want communal tension and disputes, so that they can win elections. God willing, this will end one day," he said.
The Karnataka High Court is currently seized of the matter after some students filed a petition seeking the right to wear hijab in classrooms. Many institutes in the state have barred students from wearing the hijab inside classes.
In an interim order, the high court has banned religious clothing at institutes where uniforms have been prescribed.

"We requested Prime Minister that our fight will continue but it's essential to reverse some decisions that aren't at all in the interest of J&amp;K. It was given the status of a UT, people don't like it. They want full statehood for J&amp;K with J&amp;K cadre restored," added Omar.
PDP leader and Former J&amp;K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti echoed the same demands. She said the way in which Article 370 was scrapped was illegal, unconstitutional and immoral.
"People of J&amp;K will struggle constitutionally, democratically, peacefully. Be it months or yrs, we'll restore Article 370 in J&amp;K as it's a matter of our identity," she said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the alliance chaired by&nbsp;Former chief minister Farooq Abdullah&nbsp;in Srinagar.&nbsp;The meeting was convened to formulate a strategy for PM Modi&rsquo;s all-party meeting on the erstwhile state.
Abdullah said that he will attend the meeting along with PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and others.
Gupkar&nbsp;Alliance that is&nbsp;looking to restore J&amp;K's special status said they would keep their agenda before PM Modi&nbsp;and Home Minister Amit&nbsp;Shah.

The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to stay the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate to former Jammu &amp; Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and issued a notice to the agency and Centre in her petition challenging the summons and Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
The court has adjourned the hearing to April 16. Mehbooba Mufti has been asked by the ED to appear before it in Delhi on March 22.
Mufti, in her challenge to the summons said that she apprehends she may be made an accused by the ED. The PDP leader in the petition also alleged that the state has resorted to &ldquo;a series of hostile acts&rdquo; against her acquaintances and family friends ever since her release from preventive detention last year.
