Saurabh Rajput’s mother, Renu Devi, expressed relief after a Meerut court sentenced Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla to death for his murder.

Blue Drum Murder Case: Saurabh Rajput’s Mother Welcomes Death Sentence for Muskan, Sahil

Saurabh Rajput’s mother, Renu Devi, expressed relief after a Meerut court sentenced Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla to death for his murder.

A Meerut court has sentenced Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla to death for murdering Muskan’s husband, Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer, in the case widely known as the “blue drum murder case.”
Rajput was killed and his body dismembered before the remains were concealed inside a large blue plastic drum filled with sand and cement. District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra awarded the death penalty after a trial spanning 126 hearings, citing scientific and circumstantial evidence and classifying the case as “rarest of rare.”
Reacting to the verdict, Rajput’s mother, Renu Devi, expressed relief and gratitude, saying the family had finally received the justice it had sought.
"We feel very good; we are deeply satisfied that both of them have been sentenced to death. We received the justice we were seeking. We are extremely grateful to our lawyers, associates, and staff; we will always thank them and remain indebted to them. We have nothing to do with the daughter who is in jail. As for the elder daughter—if her maternal grandparents hand her over to us without any conditions, we will keep her with us," she told ANI.
Rajput returned to Meerut from London in late February 2025. According to the prosecution, Muskan and Sahil considered his presence an obstacle to their relationship and conspired to kill him. They allegedly dismembered his body and sealed the remains inside a blue plastic drum with cement.
The murder came to light after Rajput’s family filed a missing person report. Police subsequently recovered the drum from the house and arrested both accused.
Although the court has concluded the trial by sentencing the two to death and imposing fines, the family continues to deal with the emotional impact of the crime. Renu Devi said she had disowned her association with her convicted daughter-in-law and that her priority was now the well-being of her elder granddaughter, provided she was handed over to the family without conditions.

Meerut Court Sentences Muskan, Sahil to Death in Blue Drum Murder Case

A Meerut court has sentenced Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla to death for the murder of former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput and hiding his dismembered body in a blue drum.

A Meerut court on Wednesday awarded the death penalty to Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla for murdering former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput and concealing his dismembered body in a blue drum. The case, involving the killing of 29-year-old Rajput by his wife and her schoolmate-turned-partner, came to be known as the blue drum murder case.
Advocate Krishan Kumar Dubey said the court had also imposed fines under different sections. "The court has also imposed fines of Rs 50,000 under Section 302 and Rs 20,000 under Section 238A."
Calling the judgment historic, Dubey said the case had attracted nationwide attention, with people waiting to see what punishment the accused would receive. He said both appeared stunned after the verdict was announced.
The defense had argued that there were no eyewitnesses to the murder and pointed out that both accused had daughters. However, Dubey said the prosecution's evidence was strong, significant and precise enough to establish their guilt.
Explaining the reasoning behind the sentence, the advocate said the nature of the crime was the primary consideration.
"She killed her husband—whom she had married out of love—and then dismembered his body into three parts for disposal, hiding the remains in a blue drum. It was a meticulously planned conspiracy and strategy. She executed the murder with a calm and composed mind. Consequently, the death penalty was the appropriate punishment for such a premeditated killing," he said.
Dubey described the ruling as significant among court verdicts in the country, highlighting the fact that a woman had been sentenced to death.
"A woman being sentenced to death is, in itself, a precedent-setting event. Regarding her daughter, she can stay with her mother for six years," he said.
During the trial, the court heard the case in which Muskan and Sahil were accused of conspiring to murder Rajput and hiding his body in a blue drum. A total of 22 witnesses were presented before the court.
