India criticizes Pakistan for promoting cross-border terrorism, with MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal urging strict measures to curb threats.

India has strongly criticized Pakistan for its support of terrorism, emphasizing that the global community is well aware of the country&rsquo;s role as a promoter of cross-border terrorism.
During a press briefing on Friday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that nations responsible for such activities are widely recognized and urged Pakistan to take decisive measures to curb cross-border terrorism.
Addressing a query regarding Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement accusing the Indian Army of being politicized, following remarks by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi linking terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan, Jaiswal remarked, "The whole world knows, who is promoting terrorism. In India, when we have terror-related attacks, where it is coming from, we all know the genesis, the root of cross-border terrorism. So, in this context, when the whole world knows who is the progenitor of cross-border terrorism, to say that we are trying to politicize something etc is totally immaterial. Everyone knows that there are people, there are countries who are responsible for cross-border terrorism and we call upon Pakistan to take strict action to stop cross-border terrorism."
The ISPR issued its statement following General Dwivedi&rsquo;s assertion that Pakistan is the epicenter of terrorism, noting that 80% of terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir originate from Pakistan.&nbsp;
During the annual Army Day press conference on January 13, General Dwivedi attributed the violence in Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan, stating that it continues to orchestrate terror activities.
"If the support is not forthcoming the way India is looking at it, this kind of terrorist infiltration will continue to be there," he explained. He also noted the positive impact of elections in the region, with nearly 60% voter turnout in both parliamentary and assembly elections. "It means that the local population is going with the peace. People of Jammu and Kashmir are shunning violence, and violence is being orchestrated by our Western adversary Pakistan," he said.
As a former Northern Army Commander experienced in counter-terrorism operations, General Dwivedi revealed that 15,000 additional troops were inducted in 2024, leading to a significant reduction in violence. "We have been able to neutralize 73 terrorists out of which 60% were Pakistan terrorists," he stated.

India has raised concerns with China through diplomatic channels regarding the establishment of two new counties by China in regions that fall within India's Union Territory of Ladakh, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed today.
On December 27, Chinese state media Xinhua reported that the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China had announced the creation of He'an County and Hekang County, which will be managed by Hotan Prefecture. These new administrative divisions were approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.

Responding to the development, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal asserted that parts of these newly created counties are situated within Indian territory in Ladakh, which India has consistently maintained sovereignty over. "India has never accepted the illegal Chinese occupation of Indian territory in this area," Jaiswal stated.
He further emphasized that the formation of these counties would not alter India's stance on its sovereignty or legitimize China's illegal occupation of the region. India has formally protested to China through diplomatic channels in this regard.
The two counties, He'an and Hekang, have their county seats in Hongliu Township and Xeyidula Township, respectively, as reported by Chinese state media.

In another matter, the MEA also expressed concerns over China's ongoing construction of a hydropower project on the Brahmaputra River, known as the Yarlung Tsangpo River in Tibet. In response to a December 25 Xinhua report on the project, Jaiswal reaffirmed India's position as a lower riparian state with established rights to the river's waters. India has consistently raised concerns about the potential impact of large-scale projects on shared rivers through diplomatic and expert channels.
India has called for greater transparency from China and for consultation with downstream countries, highlighting the need to ensure that the interests of nations like India, which rely on the river, are not negatively affected by upstream activities. "We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary measures to protect our interests," Jaiswal concluded.

India on Thursday said it has lodged a strong protest with China for carrying out construction activities in the Shaksgam Valley in an "illegal" attempt to alter the situation on the ground.
Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Randhir Jaiswal said the Shaksgam Valley is a part of India and New Delhi never accepted the so-called China-Pakistan boundary pact of 1963 through which Islamabad "unlawfully" attempted to cede the area to Beijing.
He said India reserves the right to take necessary measures to safeguard the country's interests.
Jaiswal's comments at his weekly media briefing came in response to a question on reports of China building infrastructure in Shaksgam Valley, a strategically located region that is now part of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The Chinese construction activities in the region are taking place amid the over three-and-half-year old border row between India and China in eastern Ladakh.
"The Shaksgam Valley is a part of the territory of India. We have never accepted the so-called China-Pakistan boundary agreement of 1963 through which Pakistan unlawfully attempted to cede the area to China," Jaiswal said.
"We have consistently conveyed our rejection of the same. We have registered our protest with the Chinese side against illegal attempts to alter facts on the ground," he said.
"We further reserve the right to take necessary measures to safeguard our interests," he added.
Jaiswal said India has always taken a "very strong" stand on the Shaksgam Valley.
"Shaksgam Valley is our territory. We have been protesting as and when required and we have always taken a very strong stand on it," he said.
Asked about the lingering eastern Ladakh border row, Jaiswal said the next round of talks will be held "very soon to take things forward".
"We have ongoing talks between India and China at diplomatic and military levels. These issues are serious and therefore they take time," he said.
"We will have next round of engagement very soon to take things forward," the MEA spokesperson added.
The Indian and Chinese troops are locked in a standoff in certain friction points in eastern Ladakh even as the two sides completed disengagement from several areas following extensive diplomatic and military talks.
India has been maintaining that its ties with China cannot be normal unless there is peace in the border areas.
The last round of military talks between the two sides had taken place in February. In the talks, both sides agreed to maintain "peace and tranquillity" on the ground but there was no indication of any breakthrough.

The move came a day after the German Foreign Ministry said they expected Kejriwal to get a fair and impartial trial as India is a democratic nation.

India on 23rd March lodged a strong protest against Germany's remarks on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy scam.
George Enzweiler, the deputy head of mission of the German embassy, was summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi to express its dismay over the German envoy's remarks which it said amounted to clear interference in India's internal affairs.
"We see such remarks as interfering in our judicial process and undermining the independence of our judiciary," MEA said in a statement after the meeting.&nbsp;
"India is a vibrant and robust democracy with rule of law. As in all legal cases in the country, and elsewhere in the democratic world, law will take its own course in the instant matter. Biased assumptions made on this account are most unwarranted," it added.
The action came a day after the German Foreign Ministry said they expected Kejriwal to get a fair and impartial trial as India is a democratic nation.
"We have taken note, India is a democratic country. We assume and expect that the standards relating to independence of Judiciary and basic democratic principles will also be applied in this case. Like anyone facing accusations, Kejriwal is entitled to a fair and impartial trial, this includes he can make use of all available legal avenues without restrictions. The presumption of innocence is a central element of the rule of law and must apply to him," the spokesperson of the German Foreign Ministry said earlier.
