Earlier in 2012, Tendulkar was awarded the Order of Australia, one of the country's highest honours.

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) on Friday said Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar has accepted its invitation to become an honourary member of the prestigious institution.
Founded in 1838, the MCC is one of the oldest sports clubs in Australia and is responsible for the management and development of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the game's premier venues.
"An icon honoured. The MCC is pleased to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the game," the MCC posted on 'X'.
The legendary Tendulkar currently holds the record of most runs at MCG with 449 from five Tests at an average of 44.90 and a strike-rate of 58.69 with a hundred and three fifties.
Earlier in 2012, Tendulkar was awarded the Order of Australia, one of the country's highest honours.
The MCG is currently hosting the vital fourth and penultimate Test match between India and Australia with the rubber evenly poised at 1-1.

This time following a bizarre occurrence in a domestic match in Australia.&nbsp; In an ACT cricket game between Ginninderra Cricket Club and West District, the former's bowler clean bowled a West District batter. Or so it appeared.&nbsp; Andy Reynolds and his teammates broke out into celebration as Matthew Bosustow began to walk back.&nbsp; But there was a catch. While the middle stump was simply knocked over, both bails stayed intact. And the umpires consequently ruled that the batter was not out, as per the MCC law.&nbsp; What does the Marlyebone Cricket Club law state?&nbsp; Law 29.1 states, 'The wicket is broken when at least one bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or one or more stumps is removed from the ground.' In Bosustow and Reynolds' case, the bails were not removed even as the ball hit the stump and knocked it out of place.&nbsp;

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the guardians of cricket's laws, has advocated for additional funding to safeguard the future of Test cricket and the women's game. They have also proposed a substantial reduction in One Day Internationals (ODIs) after the conclusion of the 2027 World Cup.
During a recent meeting at Lord's, the MCC's World Cricket Committee (WCC), consisting of 13 members, suggested the removal of bilateral ODIs, except for the year leading up to each World Cup post-2027. The proposal addresses concerns about the crowded cricket calendar, which is dominated by T20 domestic franchise leagues worldwide.
In a statement on their website, the MCC stated, "The committee questioned the role men's One Day International (ODI) cricket now plays outside of ICC World Cups and recommended it be significantly reduced following the completion of the 2027 ICC Men's World Cup." They believe that minimizing the number of ODIs would enhance the quality of matches and create much-needed space in the global cricketing calendar.
The MCC committee also emphasized the importance of providing extra funding to sustain Test cricket. Recognizing the growing financial challenges faced by nations hosting Test matches, they proposed a Test match financial audit by the ICC to gain better insights into the costs and commercial returns associated with hosting such matches. They further suggested the establishment of a separate Test fund to support nations in need and preserve the integrity of Test cricket.
Another key focus of the committee was strengthening women's cricket worldwide. They called for the creation of an ICC Strategic Fund specifically allocated to full member and associate nations committed to developing women's cricket and fielding national women's teams. The MCC also stated that investment in both men's and women's cricket should be a requirement for full ICC membership.
Headed by former England captain Mike Gatting, with Sourav Ganguly and Jhulan Goswami among its members, the MCC committee urged the ICC to establish a balanced and equitable Future Tours Programme for men's cricket beyond 2027. Their aim is to ensure an equitable schedule of matches for all full member countries, promoting bilateral cricket while also accommodating franchise cricket and maximizing the potential of the ICC World Test Championship.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, outgoing chair Mike Gatting emphasized the need for a reset in the global game of cricket. He stressed the importance of a long-term, sustainable strategy that benefits the entire sport, rather than focusing on a select few powerful nations.
Gatting stated, "It's time for the global game to reset. Too often, member nations are finding themselves living hand to mouth with their cricketing operations, versus having a long-term, viable strategy in place that future-proofs the game in their country, both financially and in terms of participation."
As the new ICC Future Tours Programme and financing cycle commences, the MCC calls for evidence of adequate funding to address the strategic needs of cricket and ensure its long-term prosperity.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has issued an "unreserved apology" to the Australian cricket team after a few of its members allegedly subjected visiting players to abuse in the Lord's Long Room. The incident took place following <a href="https://www.editorji.com/sports-news/cricket/ashes-2023-jonny-bairstow-loses-wicket-in-controversial-manner-against-australia-1688303953100">Jonny Bairstow's controversial dismissal</a> on the fifth day of the second Ashes Test.
During the 52nd over, Bairstow ducked a slow bouncer from Cameron Green and mistakenly ventured out of the crease, assuming the ball was already 'dead'. However, Alex Carey swiftly broke the stumps, and third umpire Marais Erasmus ruled it as a stumping in favor of Australia.
At the time, England was chasing a challenging target of 371 runs and were at 193 for 5 with Bairstow scoring 10.
As the Australian players walked through the Long Room during the Lunch break, they were met with boos from the Lord's crowd and chants of "same old Aussies, always cheating."
Australian opener Usman Khawaja was seen confronting a member of the MCC, but he was restrained by security guards. David Warner was also observed making a comment to some of the members. The booing continued as the Australian players ascended the stairs.
In response to the incident, the MCC issued a statement.
"The Long Room is unique in world cricket and the great privilege of players passing through the Pavilion is very special. After this morning&rsquo;s play, emotions were running high, and words were unfortunately exchanged with some of the Australian team, by a small number of members."
"We have unreservedly apologised to the Australian Team and will deal with any Member who has not maintained the standard we expect through our disciplinary processes. It was not necessary to eject anyone from the ground and I am pleased to say that there was no repeat of this as the players resumed the field for this afternoon&rsquo;s session," the statement added.
The Australian team management had requested that the MCC to investigate the incidents involving spectators in the members' area during the lunch break on the fifth day of the Lord's Test. Cricket Australia issued a statement acknowledging the alleged verbal abuse and physical contact directed towards Australian players and staff as they made their way to lunch through the members' area.

The World Cricket Committee of the MCC, the custodians of the laws of the game, wants to see the non-striker being run out by the bowler normalised at all age-group levels besides calling for "calm" on the contentious subject.
Last month, the MCC issued a clarification to the wording of the law following an incident in which bowler Adam Zampa attempted to run out non-striker Tom Rogers in a Big Bash game in January.
The clarification involved changing the wording of Law 38.3 to deliver better clarity and dispel "misconceptions" on it.
The World Cricket Committee (WCC) of the MCC, which met at the ICC headquarters in Dubai last week, is now calling for calm across all levels of the game -- from the grassroots level of recreational cricket to the elite level -- given that the act of running out a non-striker who opts to steal ground is within the laws of the game.
"The overriding factor is that there is a simple way that all confusion and controversy around this form of dismissal can be eradicated - by non-strikers complying with the Law and remaining within their ground until they have seen the ball being released from the bowler's hand," the MCC said in a statement.
"Part of the discussion in Dubai touched on the growing narrative for the bowler to be vilified for this type of dismissal. The committee members were unanimous in their view that the batter stealing ground is the one breaking the Laws of the game and therefore deserving of recrimination.
"They were also in agreement that there is no precedent to require a bowler to give a warning to a batter, confirming they are completely within their right to dismiss the batter on the first occasion they break the Law," it added.
The WCC comprises greats of the game including Kumar Sanakkara, Sourav Ganguly, Justin Langer, Alastair Cook, with Mike Gatting being the chairman.
"The bowler is not the villain here. Every batter has a choice; to stay in their ground, or risk being given out if they try to steal ground. If they choose the latter, they are the ones who are breaking the Law," said Sri Lankan great Sangakkara.
Gatting added: "We have seen suggestions that this method of dismissal will be attempted more and more at recreational level and there is the possibility of matches descending into chaos.
"Whilst attempts may increase in the short term, we would expect batters to learn their responsibilities under the Laws very quickly and drive it out of prominence.
"Although the wording of the Law has recently been clarified, the timing of when the run out can be attempted is unchanged since 2017, so very little has actually changed.
"Our stance on this is simple &ndash; batters must not steal ground if they do not wish to be given out in this manner. Nor should they be expecting to be given a warning if they do.
"If all non-strikers only left the popping crease once the ball had been released, there would never be the need for such a dismissal again," said the former England batter.&nbsp;
