Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has called off his protest over the reservation issue, saying the Maharashtra government has accepted all the demands.
He expressed satisfaction that the government has issued a notification to issue Kunbi caste certificates to all relatives of the Marathas whose records have been found.
Following the announcement, Jarange met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on January 27. He drank juice from the CM's hand like he had said he would.

The house MLA Sandeep Kshirsagar, a member of Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction was set on fire on October 31 as the Maratah quota stir intensified. Another house belonging to former minister Jaydattaji Kshirsagar was also set ablaze in Beed. This comes hours after another NCP MLA Prakash Solanke's house in Beed district was also vandalised and set on fire. An NCP office, operated by the Sharad Pawar-led faction was also torched.

The police, meanwhile, have beefed up security outside the houses and offices of politicians belonging to the Maratha community in Pune.

Pro-Maratha quota protesters on Tuesday blocked the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway in Pune city of Maharashtra and burnt tyres to press for the demand for reservation, police said.
Members of the Maratha community have been staging protests in different parts of the state seeking reservation in government jobs and education under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
"A group of protesters blocked the road at Navale bridge on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway this afternoon, shouted slogans and set seven to eight tyres on fire," an official from Sinhgad Road police station said.
The movement of vehicles was initially stopped in both lanes and was partially restored later, he said.
"We have increased security outside the houses and offices of political leaders belonging to the Maratha community," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Raja Ramaswami said.
Several organisations held agitations in support of the Maratha quota in different parts of the city.
The Maratha quota agitation has turned violent at several places in the state with protesters vandalising the houses of politicians from the ruling parties in different parts of the state. A curfew has been imposed in Dharashiv district and parts of Beed district after large-scale violence and arson.
Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has been continuing his indefinite fast in support of the reservation demand at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district since October 25.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday said a three-member committee of experts will be set up to advise the state government on submission of a proposed curative petition in the Supreme Court in connection with the Maratha quota issue.
Members of the Maratha community have been staging protests seeking reservation in government jobs and education under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
The agitation intensified after quota activist Manoj Jarange sat on an indefinite fast from October 25 at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district as part of the second phase of the protest.
Speaking to reporters here, Shinde said, &ldquo;An expert committee will be formed which will advise the state government for a proposed curative petition, which the state will file before the Supreme Court. The expert committee will have three retired judges.&rdquo; &ldquo;I do not want to go into the details of why the previous government failed to retain the Maratha reservation in the state. The Supreme Court has struck down the reservation upheld by the Bombay High Court,&rdquo; he said.
The state government has already formed a committee, headed by retired judge Sandeep Shinde, to submit a report on how to issue Kunbi caste certificates to the Maratha community.
&ldquo;The committee will submit its report tomorrow and it will be discussed in the cabinet meeting,&rdquo; CM Shinde said.
Activist Jarange has announced that fast-unto-death protests will begin in villages across Maharashtra if the state government fails to act on the pending demand of the Maratha community.
The Maharashtra government's stated position is that it is committed to granting reservation to the Maratha community which stands legal scrutiny.&nbsp;
