Indian hockey team suffered a major setback ahead of its crucial crossover match against New Zealand in the ongoing World Cup with midfielder Hardik Singh ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury. &nbsp;
The 24-year-old who did not play against Wales failed to recover from the injury that he sustained during India's second pool match against England on January 15.
His absence will be a big setback for India as they have been struggling in the attacking department. Graham Reid, India's head coach informed that Raj Kumar Pal will replace Hardik for the remainder of the tournament.&nbsp;

India's chief coach Graham Reid said his players ticked most of the boxes in the 2-0 win over a tricky Spain in their opening Hockey World Cup encounter.
Reid also praised the home team's defensive efforts to deny their opponents any chances, stating he was pleased with how his players managed to keep Spain out on the night.
"The boys were able to take the ball out of the goal. It was a good start. It is good to get the first game and it is done now and we will now focus on the next game," Reid said at the post-match press conference.
"We did practice of playing with 10 men as we thought at some point in the tournament we are going to play with 10 men. It was good. We got in front a lot today and that was very important. We were first with the ball and that makes a lot of difference in these sort of games."
"What is pleasing today is one the defensive effort and the second we handle the ball very well. There were not too many people who did not play well. That is what you need to win a World Cup. We need to continue it in the next game," he added.
India will play England in their second Pool D match at the Birsa Munda Stadium on Sunday.

India's former hockey coach Sjoerd Marijne made a big allegation about captain Manpreet Singh in his book Will Power. 
Marijne, who led the women's hockey team to a historic 4th-place finish at Tokyo Olympics, wrote in his book that Manpreet Singh had allegedly told a player to stop playing so well during the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. 
Explaining the incident in his soon-to-be-released memoir, the Dutchman wrote that when he picked a teenager for the Gold Coast Games he was convinced a new star had been discovered. But when the player failed to make any impression in the quadrennial event he was mystified.

He further wrote that the then high-performance director, David John, had claimed later that Manpreet told the player not to play so well because his friends could not get into the team. 
He added that he won't know if Manpreet had said so jokingly or not but the revelation made him very angry. 
Interestingly, it was under Marijne leadership in 2017 that Manpreet was made captain of the Indian hockey team. 
While talking about the incident to Indian Express, Marijne said that he trusted Manpreet and never thought he would do this.
Meanwhile, it is not the first time a coach has made allegations about India's men's hockey team. On the back of India's horrid run in the 2012 London Olympics, coach Michael Nobbs has alleged that a group of players from Punjab were more focused on themselves than the team.

In his upcoming book Will Power, the Dutchman wrote that during the 2018 Commonwealth games Mapreet asked a player to stop playing well so that his friends could get in the team.
In the joint statement, players said that this is a complete breach of trust and his duty of care as a coach as the remarks make them feel vulnerable in such situations.
"We are in the process of pursuing legal remedies against Mr. Sjoerd Marijne and the publishers of the book in question, Harper Collins." Both the teams said if such an incident had indeed taken place, Marijne should have reported the matter to either Hockey India or his erstwhile employer, Sports Authority of India, which he didn't.
"We would like to collectively question Mr Sjoerd Marijne, that if any of the claimed incidence took place under his watch there should be record of an allegation filed to Hockey India or the Sports Authority of India at the time.
"On checking with the authorities, we have found no such record of complaint," the statement read.
The teams further added that by bringing such false and fabricated allegations, Marijne has questioned the integrity of the players. 
Marijne coached the men's hockey team for nine months before his unceremonious exit following a dismal show at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.
He later took charge of the women's team and guided them to a historic fourth-place finish at Tokyo Olympics.

The Indian Olympic Association had initially picked Sindhu as India's flagbearer but added Manpreet's name after being told by the organisers that one male and one female were needed.

Hockey India named a full-strength 18-member squad with Manpreet Singh returning as the captain and Harmanpreet Singh as his deputy for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022. Manpreet Singh who led India to the historic bronze medal win at the Tokyo Olympics last year will take over the captaincy from Amit Rohidas who led the team during the FIH Pro League tour of Belgium and the Netherlands. While experienced goalkeepers PR Sreejesh and Krishan B Pathak return to the squad after a brief break due to injury, Suraj Karkera, Shailanand Lakra and Sukhjeet Singh who played in the FIH Pro League are not a part of the squad. Earlier the Indian Hockey body had decided to send a second-string team to CWG because of the short interval between the CWG and Asian Games. Hockey India named a full-strength 18-member squad with Manpreet Singh returning as the captain and Harmanpreet Singh as his deputy for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022.&nbsp; Manpreet Singh who led India to the historic bronze medal win at the Tokyo Olympics last year will take over the captaincy from Amit Rohidas who led the team during the FIH Pro League tour of Belgium and the Netherlands. While experienced goalkeepers PR Sreejesh and Krishan B Pathak return to the squad after a brief break due to injury, Suraj Karkera, Shailanand Lakra and Sukhjeet Singh who played in the FIH Pro League are not a part of the squad.&nbsp; Earlier the Indian Hockey body had decided to send a second-string team to CWG because of the short interval between the CWG and Asian Games. After losing to Japan, India will now Pakistan for the bronze medal on Wednesday in the Asian Champions Trophy  

Japan had a brilliant day on the field as they thrashed India 5-3 in the semi-final of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy&nbsp;at Dhaka's Maulana Bhashani National Stadium. Indian hockey team were no match against the Japanese side, whom they defeated in their last round-robin game 6-0 on Sunday.&nbsp;
Japan started with a great pace and scored two goals in the first two minutes. Shota Yamada converted the penalty stroke in the first minute while Japan's second goal came in the next minute through penalty corner as Raiki Fujishama scored.
India reduced the deficit by one at the start of the second quarter as Dilpreet scored through a field goal. But Japan earned a penalty stroke through video referral two minutes into the half-time and Yoshiki Kirishita converted the stroke. The Asian champions went into the half-time with a 3-1 lead.
Japan continued their counterattack play in the third quarter as well stretching the lead to 4 goals as Indian defenders were caught napping on various occasions.
There was not much improvement in India's attack during the final quarter as well given the Japanese side were only looking to have the possession. With the win, Japan sealed the summit clash with Korea, who defeated Pakistan 6-5 in the first semifinal.
Now, India and Pakistan will play the bronze medal playoff match on Wednesday.&nbsp;&nbsp;
