<p>Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia has called Delhi&rsquo;s overage vehicle ban an assault on the middle class, slamming the BJP government for removing 61 lakh vehicles despite low usage.</p>

<p>Senior AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday accused the BJP-led Delhi government of waging another "assault on the middle class" through its recent order banning refuelling of overage vehicles in the capital.</p>
<p>Sisodia's statement comes amid the BJP government defending the move and calling it a necessary step in its ongoing pollution control efforts.</p>
<p>"The BJP government has issued a tyrannical order to remove 61 lakh vehicles from Delhi's roads. This is not governance; this is 'Phulera ki Panchayat'. Families who've maintained their vehicles with care are now being punished. Even those vehicles that have travelled less than 10,000 km are being deemed unfit," Sisodia said in a press conference.</p>
<p>Effective July 1, petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years were prohibited from refuelling in Delhi. The order was part of an intensified crackdown on End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) and is backed by automated surveillance.</p>
<p>Penalties include fines of Rs 10,000 for four-wheelers and Rs 5,000 for two-wheelers, along with possible impounding and towing charges.</p>
<p>Sisodia questioned the motives behind the policy, asking, "Who benefits from this? Vehicle manufacturers, scrap dealers, and number plate companies. Is it a coincidence that this order came just before taxi fares were allowed to increase?"&nbsp;</p>
<p>He also accused the BJP of hypocrisy, saying, "They defied a Supreme Court Constitutional Bench order with an overnight ordinance. Now they say they can't help 61 lakh Delhi families?"</p>

<p>Among other winners, Gopal Rai secured the Babarpur seat, defeating BJP&rsquo;s Anil Kumar Vashisht by 18,994 votes. Kailash Gahlot, who had switched from AAP to BJP before the elections, won from Bijwasan, defeating AAP&rsquo;s Surender Bhardwaj.</p>

<p>The plea was mentioned before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora for an urgent hearing and the court agreed to list on Friday.</p>
<p>"Let the judge go through the file so let it come tomorrow," the bench said.</p>
<p>Advocates Rajat Bhardwaj and Mohd Irshad, representing Sisodia, submitted that the petitioner is an MLA and urged the court to list both the pleas seeking bail for an urgent hearing.</p>
<p>Sisodia has approached the high court challenging a trial court's April 30 order by which his bail pleas in the two cases were dismissed.</p>
<p>The trial court has dismissed Sisodia's bail pleas in corruption and money-laundering cases lodged by the both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged irregularities in the formulation and execution of the excise policy of 2021-22.</p>
<p>The special judge had denied the relief, saying the stage is not right to grant bail to Sisodia.&nbsp;</p>

Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on February 26 last year, for his alleged role in the so-called scam.

<p>"Will meet you soon outside. The British rulers had also arrogance of power and they sent people to jail in false cases," he said and added that Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, who spent many years in jail, were his inspiration.</p>
<p>Sisodia's bail hearing is scheduled in a Delhi court on Saturday.</p>
<p>In the letter to people of his assembly constituency Patparganj in east Delhi, Sisodia, said a struggle for good education and schools is underway like people fought for freedom of the country.</p>
<p>"Education revolution Zindabad. Love you all," Sisodia, who also served as education minister in the Kejriwal government before his arrest, said in the letter.</p>
<p>Sisodia said his love for the people of his constituency has increased while being incarcerated and that they were his strength.</p>
<p>Despite the dictatorship of the British rulers the dream of freedom was realised. Similarly, every child will get good education one day, Sisodia said.</p>
<p>Good education is necessary for a developed country, he added.</p>

<p>The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the regular bail pleas of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in corruption and money-laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.</p>
<p>A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti said it has recorded the statements of the probe agencies that the trial in these cases will conclude in six to eight months.</p>
<p>But if the trial proceeds in a "sloppy manner", then Sisodia will be at liberty to apply for bail in these cases in three months, the bench said.</p>
<p>The top court pronounced its verdict on Sisodia's two separate regular bail pleas filed in corruption and money-laundering cases related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. It had on October 17 reserved its verdict on both the pleas.</p>
<p>Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 for his alleged role in the "scam". The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has been in custody since then.</p>

<p>The Delhi government had implemented the policy on November 17, 2021, but scrapped it at the end of September 2022 amid allegations of corruption. According to the investigating agencies, the profit margins of wholesalers were increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent under the new policy.</p>
<p>The agencies have alleged that the new policy resulted in cartelisation and those ineligible for liquor licences were favoured for monetary benefits. However, the Delhi government and Sisodia have denied any wrongdoing and said the new policy would have led to an increase in Delhi's revenue share.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Delhi High Court Friday permitted AAP leader Manish Sisodia, under arrest in cases related to alleged irregularities in the city government's excise policy, to meet his ailing wife at his residence on Saturday.</p>
<p>Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma directed the Tihar Jail Superintendent to take Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister, to his residence where he has been allowed to meet his wife from 10 AM to 5 PM.</p>
<p>The high court made it clear that Sisodia shall not interact with media or any other person except his family members and also not access his phone or internet.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Let the petitioner be taken to his house tomorrow from 10 AM to 5 PM to meet his wife,&rdquo; the court said.</p>

The first results of the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) examination for classes 10 and 12 were declared on Monday by Education Minister Atishi.

<p>Out of the 1,594 students in Class 10, 1,582 appeared in both term-end assessments, and eight of them could not achieve the qualifying grade point 3, the minister said.</p>
<p>Those who remained below the qualifying grade will be given another opportunity to improve it through a supplementary assessment after a month, she said.</p>
<p>A total of 672 students registered for Class 12 Board exams and 667 of them appeared in both term-end assessments, Atishi said.</p>
<p>Five students who could not achieve the qualifying grade point 3 will also be given another opportunity to improve it through supplementary assessment.</p>
<p>The DBSE was established in 2021. The same year, 20 schools of specialised excellence across four domains -- STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Humanities, Performing and Visual Arts and High-End 21st Century Skills -- were established by the Delhi government to encourage specialised education in secondary and senior secondary classes.</p>
<p>Students were enrolled in Class 9 across all domains and in Class 11 in the STEM domain in the DBSE-affiliated schools through an aptitude test.</p>
<p>The DBSE Secondary Certificate Assessment (SCA) was conducted in two terms. The second term-end assessments were held between March 10 and 29 this year.</p>
<p>The DBSE Senior Secondary Certificate Assessment (SSCA) was also conducted in two terms. The second term-end assessment was conducted between March 10 and 27.</p>
<p>Addressing a press conference, Atishi said this is a landmark moment.</p>
<p>"Today, those nations are called developed that gave world-class education to their children. We worked on education for the last eight years. Every year, 25 per cent of Delhi's budget is allocated to education.</p>
<p>"In the last eight years, due to this budget, the quality of textbooks and uniforms has seen a huge change. In the last three years, many students have moved from private schools to government schools," she said.</p>
<p>Currently, the minister said, 20 schools of specialised excellence (SOSE) are affiliated with the DBSE and in the coming year, 50 city government-run schools will also be affiliated with the board.</p>
<p>"We will also welcome private schools on board," she added.</p>
<p>Atishi also announced the names of the toppers.</p>
<p>Ansh Bansal in STEM domain, Aanchal Tanwar in Humanities, Sargun Sharma in Performing and Visual Arts and Khushi Chaudhary in High-End 21st Century Skills topped in Class 10.</p>
<p>Mohammed Farhan, Shyam Kumar, Ujjwal Pratap and Shilpi topped Class 12 in the STEM domain.</p>
<p>Sharma said she found a safe and conducive environment for her studies at DBSE's School of Specialised Excellence. She said she used to be afraid of asking questions before, but her new school encouraged her to be inquisitive.</p>
<p>She said she received guidance to learn practical skills beyond textbook knowledge through new methods of learning and assessment. She further stated that unlike her previous school, where rote learning was emphasised, the focus in SOSE is on understanding concepts.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Shilpi, who is among the Class 12 toppers, said DBSE schools promote application-based learning which helps students improve their visualisation skills, which are key in the field of computers and science.</p>
<p>With an impressive 99.7 percentile in JEE Mains, Shilpi is now preparing for JEE Advanced scheduled for June.</p>

AAP leader Manish Sisodia's bail plea rejected by Delhi court | Excise policy case

<p>The Rouse Avenue Court on Friday dismissed the bail plea of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case pertaining to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the Union Territory government.</p>
<p>Special Judge MK Nagpal dismissed the bail plea moved by Manish Sisodia. He is presently in judicial custody and scheduled to be produced before the court on April 3, 2023.</p>
<p>The court last week reserved the order on bail plea after the counsel representing the CBI submitted brief written submissions and judgements concerned, as directed by the court on the last date of the hearing. The CBI also submitted case diary detail and several statements of witnesses in the matter.</p>
<p>Sisodia, in his bail petition in a trial court, stated that no fruitful purpose would be served to keep him in custody as all the recoveries in the case have already been made.</p>
