The Supreme Court on Monday called for evolving a broad mechanism to deal with violence against women in strife-torn Manipur and asked how many FIRs have been registered in such incidents in the state since May.
While hearing a plea on the parading incident, Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud said what happened in Manipur can not be justified by pointing out to other states where crimes against women are happening.
He further said that we as in country are dealing with something which is of unprecedented nature.&nbsp;
Taking cognisance of the video, a bench headed by the chief justice of India directed the Centre and the Manipur government to take immediate remedial, rehabilitative and preventive steps and apprise it of the action taken.

A Delhi court on Thursday granted regular bail to outgoing Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

Former WFI President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on July 22 reacted to the video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur.
Bhushan who was granted bail in alleged sexual harassment case filed against him by six women wrestlers condemned the incident as well as called it a sad incident in independent India.&nbsp;
"The situation in Manipur was difficult. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also camped there...The Manipur incident is very sad. This is a very sad incident which has happened in Independent India. Prime Minister has taken cognisance of the matter. He has also made remarks on the matter. I condemn this incident," Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said while speaking to media.
A Delhi court on Thursday granted regular bail to outgoing Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and the Federation's assistant secretary Vinod Tomar Singh in the sexual harassment case registered by several wrestlers.

On July 19, an old video of stripped women from the Kuki community being paraded in the state by a mob of men from the Meitei community surfaced online sending shockwaves across the nation.

Amid massive outrage over the Manipur video, CM N Biren Singh on Thursday said, the state police arrested the second culprit in the horrific public molestation of two women in the state.
While speaking to reporters N Biren Singh said, the administration flung into action as soon as the video surfaced and made the first arrest earlier in the day on July 19.

Tension mounted in the hills of Manipur after a May 4 video surfaced on Wednesday showing two women from one of the warring communities being paraded naked by a few men from the other side, officials said on Wednesday.
The video was doing the rounds on the eve of a planned protest march announced by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) on Thursday to highlight their plight.
According to a spokesperson of ITLF, the "despicable scene, which happened on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, shows men constantly molesting the helpless women, who cry and plead with their captors.
"The horrifying ordeal suffered by these innocent women is amplified by the perpetrators' decision to share the video, which shows the identity of the victims, on social media." The police are looking into the matter.
While condemning the "sickening act", the spokesperson in a statement demanded that the central and state governments, National Commission for Women and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes take cognisance of the offence and bring the culprits before the law.
The Kuki-Zo tribals are planning to raise this issue as well during a proposed protest march in Churchandpur on Thursday.
Manipur state has been witnessing ethnic clashes since May 3 between the majority the Meiteis, concentrated in Imphal valley, and the Kukis, occupying the hills. Over 160 people have been killed in the violence so far.

Manipur has been witnessing ethnic clashes since May 3 and over 160 people have lost their lives so far.

A person was killed when armed assailants attacked the village defence force of a community at Laimaton Thangbuh village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur, officials said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday morning.
Women and children from the village had been moved out to Churachandpur earlier following ethnic clashes on May 3. It was guarded by the village defence force only. On Sunday, around 30 people climbed a small hill and attacked the village defence force members. One person was killed in the firing, officials said. The assailants escaped after the Assam Rifles reached the spot.
Last week witnessed a few violence-free days but the lull was broken with the killing of a Nara Maring woman in Imphal West on Saturday. Police have arrested nine people in connection with the woman's killing.
