An attack on a team of Assam Rifle in Manipur that led to death of a colonel, his wife and son, and 4 other personnel may have forced Centre review its decision to scale back troops deployed in Northeast for counter-insurgency operations, News18 reported.
The report said that the decision could affect troop deployment in Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, where some of the active insurgent groups haven’t yet entered into a ceasefire agreement with the government.
On Monday, three militants were killed in a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh police. The militants had kidnapped two civilians.
Earlier this year, Army chief General MM Naravane had said that the security situation in the Northeast had improved significantly. The Army even withdrew one of its brigades from the region.
The forces had planned reduce troops in the Northeast so that they can move away from internal security duties and focus on its primary duty of conventional warfare.
The News18 report stated that there were 162 attacks by insurgents in the Northeast from January 1 to October 31 this year, up from 132 in the corresponding period last year.

A Colonel of the Indian Army, his wife and eight-year-old son, and four Assam Rifles soldiers were killed in an attack in Manipur's Churachandpur on Saturday, officials said.
Colonel Viplav Tripathi was the Commanding Officer of the 46 Assam Rifles.
The officials said four others sustained injuries in the attack that happened around 3 km from Deheng locality.
Describing it as a cowardly attack, Singh said the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.
"The cowardly attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Churachandpur, Manipur is extremely painful &amp; condemnable. The nation has lost 5 brave soldiers including CO 46 AR and two family members," he tweeted.
"My condolences to the bereaved families. The perpetrators will be brought to justice soon," Singh said.

 ‘Mera Houchongba’ festival celebrated in Manipur

The Mera Houchongba festival was celebrated at the Manipur Royal Palace in Imphal, however, on a smaller scale due to Covid-19.

The grand Mera Houchongba festival was celebrated at the Manipur Royal Palace in Imphal, in the presence of the erstwhile King Leishema Sanajaoba on Saturday.
The festival is observed and is celebrated in the month of Mera, which falls either in September or October.
The festival upholds oneness and brotherhood among different ethnic communities. Traditional dance performances and an exchange of gifts mark the celebrations.
This year the festival was restricted&nbsp;to sacred rituals only owing to the pandemic.&nbsp;
