Maneka Gandhi, one of the longest serving MPs in the Lok Sabha, is seeking a second term from Sultanpur constituency.&nbsp;

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Maneka Gandhi is seeking a second Lok Sabha term from Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur in the ongoing general elections.&nbsp;
Even though top BJP leaders and star campaigners have been missing in the lead-up to the sixth phase of voting on May 25, the eight-time MP has been focusing on solo rallies. Her speeches are devoid of any mention of the Ram Temple, a stark contrast to other BJP candidates. Even references to Prime Minister Narendra Modi are minimal.
Ayodhya, a mere hour&rsquo;s drive from Sultanpur, is historically significant for the BJP. Yet Gandhi has consciously avoided making it a focal point. Perhaps to seem inclusive to the approximately 17% of the voters, who are minorities.
&ldquo;I have not made it (the Ram Temple) an issue here,&rdquo; she acknowledges. Instead, the veteran parliamentarian emphasizes her track record and future promises. &ldquo;At the end of the day, people just want their problems to be looked at and want a personal relationship with their representative,&rdquo; she argues.
Gandhi's primary opponents include OBC candidates from two major fronts. The Congress-SP alliance has fielded Ram Bhual Nishad, a representative of the sizable Nishad community, with about 2.5 lakh members in the constituency. The BSP&rsquo;s candidate, Uday Raj Verma, is a Kurmi.
The BJP leader scripted history in 2019, as she became the first woman to win from the Sultanpur constituency. She defeated the SP-BSP alliance candidate Chandrabhadra Singh Sonu by a margin of 14,526 votes.&nbsp;

BJP's Sultanpur Lok Sabha candidate Maneka Gandhi said that she was neither surprised nor upset when her son Varun Gandhi didn't get the party ticket to contest the general elections.

"BJP is a cadre-based party, and everyone adheres to the decisions made," she said, according to the Times of India outlet.&nbsp;
During an interaction with a news channel, Maneka expressed pride and complete trust in her son, saying that he contributed positively to the country.
She also said that she was unaware whether Varun was joining any other party.&nbsp;
Stressing her connection as the daughter-in-law of Amethi-Sultanpur, Maneka highlighted her ability to dedicate complete time and ensure ongoing development works in Sultanpur.
"It doesn't matter whether I was made a minister again or not. Voters from my area have not faced any problems. No difference could be felt, and the pace of work has only increased," she said.
Earlier, Varun penned an emotional letter to the people of his constituency after he was dropped by the BJP.
"Today, as I write this letter, countless memories overwhelm me. I recall that little three-year-old child who arrived in Pilibhit for the first time in 1983, holding his mother's fingers. Little did he know that one day, this land would become his workplace, and the people here would become his family," he wrote.
"If not as an MP, then at least as a son, I am committed to serving you throughout my life, and my doors will always remain open to you as before. I entered politics to amplify the voice of the common man, and today, I seek your blessings to continue this work always, even if I have to bear any cost for it," he concluded.
