Mandana Karimi has revealed that she quit Bollywood after &lsquo;disrespect and harassment&rsquo; she faced in industry.

Iranian actor Mandana Karimi, who gained recognition with her stint in the reality show &lsquo;Bigg Boss 9&rsquo;, has revealed that she quit Bollywood after the &lsquo;disrespect and harassment&rsquo; she faced in her decade-long career in the industry. She added it was getting &lsquo;unhealthy&rsquo; for her mental health.
&lsquo;I don&rsquo;t care about the fame, I don&rsquo;t care about the money I used to earn. I used to, when I was younger, but not anymore,&rsquo; she said in an interview with Shivani Pau.
Mandana said a few years ago, when she accused a director of sexual harassment, it created a lot of damage for her than doing her good. She said unlike Western countries, where the #MeToo movement has resulted in change, it has been very different in India
She said, &lsquo;It&rsquo;s an industry that, if I had a child right now, I would be worried if my daughter wants to be a part of Bollywood. The industry in India is very different. It runs on who you know, who your father is, who your family is. Yes, later on, it depends on how good you are and how talented you are, but it&rsquo;s very competitive.&rsquo;
Mandana said certain situations can be &lsquo;unhealthy&rsquo;.
&lsquo;For me, Bollywood was like that. I tried to find good people to work with&hellip; I&rsquo;m not saying that everyone is the same, there are some amazing people that I worked with&hellip; Unfortunately, in my career, I didn&rsquo;t have that many of those people. I had people who were very disrespectful, they treat you like, &lsquo;Oh, she&rsquo;s a pretty girl, she doesn&rsquo;t have support, we can do whatever we want&rsquo;, she said.
Mandana has appeared in films like &lsquo;Roy&rsquo;, &lsquo;Kya Kool Hain Hum 3&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Thar&rsquo;. She last participated in the reality show &lsquo;Lock Upp&rsquo;, hosted by Kangana Ranaut.

Payal Rohatgi, former ‘Bigg Boss 2’ contestant, has defended filmmaker Sajid Khan’s participation in ‘Bigg Boss 16’ that has received much criticism on social media. The filmmaker was accused of sexual harassment by several actors and a journalist during the #MeToo movement in 2018. Following which, he was banned by the Indian Film & Television Directors' Association for a year.  This is the first time Sajid has got a public platform since the allegations surfaced in 2018.    Recently, actor Mandana Karimi, who had accused Sajid of sexual harassment, had said that she doesn’t wish to be a part of the industry which doesn’t respect women. Now, her ‘Lock Upp’ co-contestant Payal Rohatgi has spoken in favour of the filmmaker and slammed Mandana for leaving Bollywood. Payal mentions that Sajid has the ‘right to live and earn money’.   In her Instagram stories, Payal said, ‘Sajid Khan has done wrong with 6 women as they narrated publicly. He has been reprimanded by all and publicly humiliated for his actions. Now the 6 women can take him to court.’  She further added, ‘But let me put it on record when even murderers have been given the right to reform by the values of Mahatma Gandhi then here even Sajid Khan has the right to live. He has the right to earn money. He has the right to repent. Let him fight for his right. You oppose him but don't do the drama of quitting Bollywood.’  In another post, Payal Rohatgi also recalled her experience when a director misbehaved with her. She said that she responded immediately instead of waiting for the #MeToo movement to start. She also slammed the PR agencies and asked them to ‘stop the drama about targeting Bollywood.’ Earlier, in an interview with Hindustan Times, Mandana had said that MeToo could not achieve much because people tend to become selfish and care about their own benefits. She was quoted saying, `It does make me feel sad. To be honest, that is also the reason I have not worked for the last seven months. I’m not working anymore. I didn’t go to any auditions. I don’t want to work in Bollywood. I don’t want to be involved with an industry where there is no respect for women.’

Now, actor Mandana Karimi has expressed her disappointed with the makers of &lsquo;Bigg Boss&rsquo; for having Sajid as a contestant. She was among those who had accused the filmmaker for misconduct.
In a recent interview, Mandana said she doesn&rsquo;t wish to be involved with an industry where there is &lsquo;no respect for women&rsquo;.
The actor said that she is not surprised to see Sajid Khan back in spotlight. She said people don&rsquo;t care about anything if they benefit and can make money from it. She said that is the main reason the MeToo movement in India and other countries didn&rsquo;t reach anywhere.
She said, &lsquo;It was just a few women, they came, they spoke and that was it. What is the action? Who is boycotting these people? Nothing is going to happen. Because we are talking about the bigger industry, which is a place where someone is someone&rsquo;s mom, boyfriend, girlfriend or husband. It&rsquo;s like you, you scratch my back, and I will scratch your back.&rsquo;
Mandana further stated that she was upset watching Sajid onscreen, but not surprised.
&lsquo;It does make me feel sad. To be honest, that is also the reason I have not worked for the last seven months. I&rsquo;m not working anymore. I didn&rsquo;t go to any auditions. &lsquo;I&rsquo;m still fighting for my money. My full payment hasn&rsquo;t come, the show was over five months back. I am still waiting to know why they aren&rsquo;t clearing my dues,&rsquo; she said.
Mandana Karimi is still trying to figure out what she will do after quitting Bollywood.
&lsquo;Because being a woman, it&rsquo;s not easy. I need to see what makes me happy because life is too short to compromise for anyone&hellip; There are people who agree to compromise and keep their mouth shut, or not talk about the things happening around, thinking what difference will one person make. That is the main problem.. Let&rsquo;s see where my life takes me,&rsquo; she said.
