Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra is likely to skip summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today in relation to a foreign exchange violation case.&nbsp;
The ED summoned Moitra and Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani for questioning in the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) contravention case, after the TMC leader skipped summons twice before. The 49-year-old did not depose citing official work and sought deferment of the notice on both occasions.
Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December for "unethical conduct", has been renominated by her party from West Bengal's Krishnanagar seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had raided her premises in connection with the cash-for-query case on Saturday, days after anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal directed the federal agency to investigate the allegations levelled against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.
Dubey, a Lok Sabha member, has alleged that Moitra asked questions in the House in exchange for cash and gifts from Hiranandani to mount an attack on industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among others.
Transactions linked to a non-resident external (NRE) account are under the ED's scanner, apart from a few other foreign remittances and fund transfers, the sources said.
Moitra has denied any wrongdoing and claims that she is being targeted as she raised questions about deals of the Adani Group.&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned TMC leader and former Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra for questioning in a FEMA contravention case next week, official sources said Thursday.
The 49-year-old politician has been asked to depose on February 19 at the central agency's office in Delhi.
Her statement will be recorded under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) once she deposes, they said.
Moitra is being probed by the CBI too and it is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the allegations against Moitra on the reference from the Lokpal.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.
He had also accused Moitra of compromising national security for monetary gains.
In December, Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha over the issue.
Moitra has denied any wrongdoing and claimed she was being targeted as she had raised questions on the deals of the Adani Group.
"Neither has Lok Pal uploaded any referral order on website as per Lokpal Act &amp; nor has CBI put out anything official. 'Sources' telling journos as per usual media circus. Hope Rs 13,000 crore Adani coal scam merits CBI PE before my witchhunt," Moitra had said on X in November.

Soon after the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi was asked about Mahua Moitra not being allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha during the debate despite the Trinamool's request to make her the speaker on behalf of the party during the debate.
To this, Pralhad Joshi talked about the cash-for-query row against Mahua Moitra and said, "Mahua accepted the allegation and she said that she got certain brands' scarf, lipstick, she did not deny all this."
Pralhad Joshi further said that in the Parliament, she asked around 60-65 questions but never asked about her constituency. Joshi further said, "She asked questions for money and it has been proved, she accepted it, what other proof do you want? This is the biggest proof."
He concluded by saying that several TMC MPs are happy with her expulsion.&nbsp;

After stating that she was not aware about a scheduled INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee congratulated the opposition bloc for fighting unitedly over Mahua Moitra's expulsion.&nbsp;

Notwithstanding the recent churn due to the loss in assembly elections in the Hindi heartland, the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha appears to have given a fresh impetus to the Opposition INDIA bloc.&nbsp;
The Congress and the other constituents of the bloc rallied behind Moitra who was expelled for allegdly indulging in &ldquo;unethical conduct&rdquo; and committing &ldquo;serious misdemeanours&rdquo;.&nbsp;
As the TMC leader stood on the steps of the Parliament and addressed the media, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and other Opposition MPs stood behind her and listened to her in rapt attention.
From Bengal, her party boss Mamata Banerjee congratulated the INDIA bloc, saying they have fought unitedly. Pertinently, Mamata had Banerjee recently said that she was not apprised about opposition alliance INDIA's meeting in Delhi, scheduled for December 6.&nbsp;

'Don't upload questions myself': Giridhari Yadav, who is part of Moitra ethics panel, slams BJP

Yadav said this while participating in a debate on the report of the ethics committee in the Lok Sabha.

Janata Dal (United) MP Giridhari Yadav on Friday said he does not upload questions on the Lok Sabha's website himself as he does not know how to operate a computer, as the Lower House decided to expel Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Mahua Moitra over the allegation that she shared her log-in credentials with outsiders and took a bribe for asking questions.
Yadav, who is a member of the Lok Sabha's ethics panel and was among the opposition MPs who staged a walkout from the committee meeting alleging that Moitra was asked personal and irrelevant questions, took a jibe at the ruling dispensation and questioned why BJP MP Nishikant Dubey was called for questioning while businessman Darshan Hiranandani was not.
He said this while participating in a debate on the report of the ethics committee in the Lok Sabha. The report was adopted and the House voted for expelling Moitra after the opposition members walked out.
"I do not upload my questions myself.... My PS (personal secretary) does it. I do not know how to operate a computer ... so my staff does that for me. I do not even remember my own password," the JD(U) leader said.
"This time I did not give any questions out of fear.... We are being intimidated," he added.
Speaker Om Birla objected to Yadav's comments.
"I request all members to prepare their own questions. This is against the norms. I can take action against members who do not prepare their own questions," Birla said.
Yadav said ethics panel chairperson Vinod Sonkar had said Hiranandani, who made the allegation through an affidavit that he paid a bribe to Moitra, would be called for examination but was not called eventually.
"It is the misfortune of this House that honourable Nishikantji was called for cross (examination), but Darshan Hiranandani was not called. If an affidavit can be trusted, why mistrust Nishikantji? "The ethics panel chairman had said Hiranandani would be called.... We call MPs but do not call capitalists who make allegations," he said.
The Lok Sabha expelled Moitra on Friday after holding her guilty of sharing her website log-in credentials with others and accepting gifts from a businessman to extend favours.
After a heated debate during which Moitra was not allowed to speak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion to expel the TMC leader for "unethical conduct", which was adopted by a voice vote.
The opposition members walked out of the House as the speaker started the voting process on the motion moved by Joshi.
The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha had recommended Moitra's expulsion from the House over the "cash-for-query" allegation.

The development comes after the panel on October 26 recorded statements of lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai and BJP leader Nishikant Dubey in connection with the matter.

The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha has asked Trinamool Congress member Mahua Moitra to appear before it on October 31 in connection with the cash-for-query allegations against her.
After a meeting of the panel on Thursday, its head and BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar also said they will seek assistance from the Ministries of Home Affairs and IT in probing the allegations against the TMC MP.
Moitra has been asked to appear before the panel on October 31, Sonkar said.
The panel on Thursday recorded statements of lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai and BJP leader Nishikant Dubey in connection with the matter.
In his complaint to Speaker Om Birla, BJP member Dubey has cited documents shared by Dehadrai to back his cash-for-query allegations against Moitra.
Birla had referred the matter to the Ethics Committee.&nbsp;
