Amid a row over Sanjay Raut's remarks that Shiv Sena (UBT) would contest 23 of the 48 seats in upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, party chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said he won't do anything that would hurt the MVA alliance.
His remarks are seen as a snub to Raut whose "23 seats for Shiv Sena" statement ruffled many feathers in Congress, an ally in the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
Talking to reporters here, Thackeray said the ticket distribution will take place smoothly and that he has spoken to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi.
A day before, Raut had caused a flutter saying Shiv Sena (UBT) would contest 23 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.
He had also said the seat-sharing talks with Congress would have to "start from zero" as the latter had "not won any seat'" in the previous elections, a statement drawing a sharp response from state Congress leaders.
"I will not do anything that will hurt the MVA. So I will not pay attention to those who say anything. Until the Congress president speaks on this issue (seat-sharing), till that time, neither I nor anyone from my side will comment," Thackeray said.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief also said the ticket distribution will take place smoothly.
"The discussion between the Sena (UBT) and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) has been smooth," he added.
Thackeray also said efforts are on to have a joint meeting with MVA members- Shiv Sena (UBT), the Congress, and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction)- and Prakash Amedbkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.
While Shiv Sena (UBT) and VBA have already forged an alliance, no call was yet taken on the induction of the Ambedkar-led outfit in the MVA fold and any electoral tie-up.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Shiv Sena (Undivided) won 18 of the 23 seats it had contested in Maharashtra while its ally BJP bagged 23 of 25 constituencies. The NCP (undivided) emerged victorious on 4 seats while Congress' tally was just one seat.&nbsp;

With tempers running high among Shiv Sena workers following the rebellion by party leader Eknath Shinde, the Mumbai police have deployed its personnel at the city-based offices of various political parties and leaders, including ministers, MLAs and MPs, and their residences as a security measure, an official said on Saturday.
The instructions to remain alert and to provide security was taken at a meeting chaired by Mumbai Police commissioner Sanjay Pandey, where senior officials including the joint police commissioner (law and order), additional commissioners and zonal DCPs were present, he said.
The prohibitory orders issued by the city police under section 37 of the Mumbai Police (MP) Act in the first week of June, ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections, will continue to remain in place till July 10. It bans the assembly of five or more persons at one place.
A police official clarified that he had referred to the section 144 of the CrPc earlier in the day by mistake, but later clarified that the prohibitory orders are in place as per the section 37 of the Act.
On Saturday, cadres loyal to the Thackerays staged protests against the rebels by defacing their banners, hurling stones, and vandalising the office of an MLA in various parts of the state.
Majority of Shiv Sena MLAs have shifted their loyalty to minister Eknath Shinde and are camping in Guwahati, plunging the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who heads the Sena, into a crisis. A few incidents of attack on the offices of rebel MLAs have taken place in parts of the state.
"The city police personnel have been asked to remain alert and maintain law and order situation in the city. They have been instructed to coordinate with the local leaders of political parties and get in advance the information related to their programmes, movement and deployment of bandobast during the meetings and political events," the official said.
Officials of the special branch have been asked to monitor the social media platforms and take action against those persons who are found posting objectionable content, messages, videos, police said.
"The police personnel have been asked to ensure that the workers of political parties do not take law into hand, indulge in violence or damage public property. The officials have been asked to take stringent action against the violators," he said.
The police staff has also been asked to ensure that no objectionable banner and hoarding comes up anywhere, the official said.
The prohibitory order issued earlier this month by DCP Operations, prohibits the assembly of five of more persons in view of the likelihood of breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility.
Apart from the assembly of five or more persons, it prohibits processions, use of loud speakers, musical band and bursting of crackers in any procession.
Mumbai police are already on high alert to avoid any untoward incidents in view of the current political developments, the police official said.
Police have deployed adequate security at various important places in the city, he said.

The Shiv Sena camp led by Uddhav Thackeray has asked the Maharashtra acting speaker to disqualify 12 rebel MLAs including their leader Eknath Shinde.
The newly appointed Shiv Sena legislature party leader Ajay Choudhari met the acting speaker Narhari Zhirwal asking him to take action against the 12 MLAs who have joined the Eknath Shinde faction for violating party discipline. 
Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant said, “We had called for two meetings on June 22 and a whip was issued by Sunil Prabhu. These MLAs were given notices and asked why they were not present. Some gave explanations, but they may be real or fake. Hence, we have sought their disqualification.”
Meanwhile three more MLAs of the Shiv Sena have joined Eknath Shinde’s camp in Assam’s Guwahati since Wednesday night. With the addition of these three MLAs, at least 37 Sena legislators are siding with Shinde which is two-thirds of the party’s strength in the legislature.

With Uddhav Thackeray failing to keep his flock together, more MLAs joined the rebels camped in Assam. News agency ANI reported that more Maharashtra legislators belonging to the Shiv Sena arrived late night on 23 June in Guwahati and were seen travelling to the hotel where the rebels led by minister Eknath Shinde are staying.
Meanwhile, the tussle to gain control of the party in the Maharashtra Assembly intensified. 37 rebel MLAs wrote to the Assembly's Deputy Speaker stating that Shinde will remain the party's leader in the House.
This came after the Deputy Speaker, Narhari Zirwal, approved the appointment of Ajay Chaudhary as Shinde's replacement as Sena's group leader in the Assembly.
At the same time, Uddhav's camp appealed to Deputy Speaker to take action against 12 MLAs who had skipped the legislature party meeting. The MLAs against which Uddhav Thackeray's group sought action reportedly included Eknath Shinde, Prakash Surve, Tanaji Sawant, Mahesh Shinde, Abdul Sattar, Sandeep Bhumare, Bharat Gogawale, Sanjay Shirsat, Yamini Yadhav, Anil Babar, Balaji Devdas, and Lata Chaudhari.
In response, rebel leader Eknath Shinde asked, "Whom are you trying to scare?" In a tweet, Shinde claimed that whips can be enforced only for Assembly work, and not meetings. Whips refer to compulsory attendance orders.

The Shiv Sena and its MVA allies NCP and Congress had contested two seats each in the Legislative Council polls on Monday. However, Congress's Dalit leader Chandrakant Handore lost the polls.
The opposition BJP in the state won all the five seats it contested.
A Congress minister said Handore's loss has come as a shock for the party.
This is a "failure" of the Maharashtra Congress leadership, he claimed, adding that the Council poll results have exposed the "divide" in the state party unit.
"All leaders need to sit together and analyse what went wrong," he said, adding that the Congress is monitoring the developments in the Shiv Sena.
He said Congress leaders are expected to meet Chief Minister Thackeray later in the day.
Meanwhile, senior NCP leader and state cabinet minister Chhagan Bhujbal told PTI that his party MLAs were intact, and said he does not feel there is a threat to the MVA government.
"The Shiv Sena and Congress MLAs cross-voted in the polls on Monday. The Shiv Sena has 55 MLAs and three of its ministers are from smaller parties and Independents. The Shiv Sena has the support of some 59 MLAs. Still, both its candidates got 26 votes each, just managing to complete the quota of first preference votes. Even three Congress MLAs cross-voted," Bhujbal claimed.

In a major setback to Maharashtra's ruling alliance of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, the BJP on Saturday won three of the six Rajya Sabha seats, while the ruling combine questioned the eight-hour delay in counting of votes.
The BJP winners include Union minister Piyush Goyal and former state minister Anil Bonde, and Dhananjay Mahadik.
Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, NCP’s Praful Patel and Congress’ Imran Pratapgarhi also won the fiercely-fought elections.
Of the 284 valid votes, Goyal polled 48, Bonde 48, Mahadik 41.56, Raut 41, Pratapgarhi 44 and Patel 43.
The contest was for the sixth seat — the BJP had fielded former MP Dhananjay Mahadik and the Shiv Sena candidate was Sanjay Pawar, who lost. Mahadik and Pawar hail from Kolhapur in western Maharashtra.
The high-stake battle for the sixth turned out to be a nail-biting affair with the Congress and BJP trading charges, even approaching the Election Commission.

In a major setback to Maharashtra's ruling alliance of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, the BJP on Saturday won three of the six Rajya Sabha seats, while the ruling combine questioned the eight-hour delay in counting of votes.
The BJP winners include Union minister Piyush Goyal and former state minister Anil Bonde, and Dhananjay Mahadik.
Shiv Sena&rsquo;s Sanjay Raut, NCP&rsquo;s Praful Patel and Congress&rsquo; Imran Pratapgarhi also won the fiercely-fought elections.
Of the 284 valid votes, Goyal polled 48, Bonde 48, Mahadik 41.56, Raut 41, Pratapgarhi 44 and Patel 43.

Mahadik and Pawar hail from Kolhapur in western Maharashtra.
The high-stake battle for the sixth turned out to be a nail-biting affair with the Congress and BJP trading charges, even approaching the Election Commission.

The NCP on Tuesday accused the BJP of indulging in politics of vendetta and misusing Central probe agencies to muzzle the voices of Maha Vikas Agadi leaders in Maharashtra after the ED attached properties linked to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.
The ED has attached eight land parcels in Alibaug and a flat in Mumbai's Dadar suburb linked to Raut and his family under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, officials said on Tuesday.
Maharashtra NCP chief spokesperson Mahesh Tapase charged the BJP with targeting the Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders as the NDA constituent could not form a government in the state after the 2019 Assembly polls.
Tapase also raised questions over the timing of the Enforcement Directorate's action, saying it swung into action as soon as the Maharashtra government formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe Raut's allegation of extortion against some of the probe agency's officials.
The Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress formed the MVA in late 2019 after the Sena broke away from long-time ally BJP over sharing of the chief ministerial tenure.
“The BJP government at the Centre is misusing its probe agencies to muzzle voices of its political opponents. What is going on (in Maharashtra)? This is politics of vendetta that's going on in Maharashtra,” Tapase said in a video statement.
He alleged that properties linked to Raut were attached since the Sena leader spoke on behalf of the ruling MVA in Maharashtra and against the BJP.
Raut had alleged in a press conference last month that some ED officers were acting as "an ATM" for the BJP.
He had also said the Mumbai Police was probing extortion charges against four officers of the central agency and some of them will go to jail. The Sena MP had not revealed any names while making the allegations.
“The Maharashtra home minister has ordered a SIT probe into Raut's allegations. As soon as the probe was ordered, the ED attached his property and residence,” Tapase said, adding that the BJP , through such moves, wants to defame the MVA government.

A week ago, The Hindu had reported the Maharashtra government had discussed the possibility of suspending Singh, who after being removed from the post alleged that former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh demanded ₹100 crore extortion money from hoteliers of the city.
