Two days after the results of the assembly elections, the suspense over BJP's choice of chief minister for Madhya Pradesh remains.
In a statement, the incumbent chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said he is not a contender for the post.
"I am just a party worker. I have always tried to do the work assigned to me by the party with full accountability, honesty to the best of my abilities. Neither was I a contender for the chief minister post earlier nor I am now," said Chouhan.
Chouhan also heaped praises on PM Narendra Modi.
"Modi ji is our leader and we always feel pride and delight in working with him," said Chouhan.

In March 2020, Rahul Gandhi's trusted friend Jyotiraditya Scindia dealt a body blow to the Congress as he walked out of the party with 22 MLAs, bringing down the Kamal Nath-led Congress government. While Shivraj Singh Chouhan was crowned as the chief minister, the Maharaja was given a plum post at the Centre.
As the assembly election approached, there was disquiet in the saffron party owing to factionalism. There was a rivalry between the BJP old timers in the state and the Congress turncoats that Scindia brought with him. Both factions were vying for tickets and it appeared that this may hurt the party's prospects.
As the poll battle heated up, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi called him a &ldquo;traitor&rdquo;. In a jibe, Gandhi said that Scindia was short in height but his arrogance was big.
Despite the attacks, from the Congress and from within his party, Scindia's gambit turned out to be a success. As the BJP is poised for a massive win in Madhya Pradesh, the party dominated in the Gwalior, region which is a Scindia stronghold.

Chouhan said, "Modi ji MP ke mann mein hain aur Modi ji ke mann mein MP hai. He held public rallies here and appealed to the people and that touched people's hearts. These trends are a result of that. Double-engine government properly implemented the schemes of the Central Government and the schemes that were formed here also touched people's hearts. Madhya Pradesh became a family."
He added, "We got support from [Union Home Minister] Amit Shah's flawless strategy. Under BJP chief JP Nadda's leadership, party workers worked tirelessly."

Repolling was underway on Tuesday at a booth in Ater assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district, an official said.
Voting began at 7 am and was going on peacefully at booth number 3 under polling centre number 71 in Kishupura. It will conclude at 6 pm, he said.
The Election Commission of India ordered repolling because of a breach of secrecy as some people shot videos of voting at the booth concerned in Kishupura during the elections on November 17.
Four members of the polling party have been suspended for the breach of secrecy, Bhind collector and district returning officer Sanjeev Shrivastava earlier said.
As per instructions, indelible ink was being applied on the middle finger of voters during repolling, another official said.
Voters were not being allowed to enter the booth with mobile phones. All other rules of the model code of conduct were being followed, he said.
The repolling process was being videographed, he added.
State BJP minister and Ater's sitting MLA Arvind Singh Bhadauria is pitted against former legislator Hemant Katare of the Congress in the assembly seat.
All 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh went to polls in a single phase on November 17 with a voter turnout of 77.15 per cent, as per the Election Commission.

The proprietors of shops located in '56 Dukan', a famous food hub in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, have decided to offer free snacks comprising poha and jalebi to those casting votes early in the upcoming assembly elections, a move aimed at boosting the voter turnout.
Elections to the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly will be held in a single phase on November 17.
The shopkeepers have announced that anybody who casts a vote in the early hours of polls will get free poha and jalebi after showing the indelible ink mark on the finger.
Talking to PTI about it, Gunjan Sharma, the president of 56 Dukan Traders' Association, said on Saturday, "Indore occupies the top position in the country as far as cleanliness is concerned. We want our city to top in terms of voting as well. For this, we have decided to offer free poha and jalebi to those who cast their vote." "The offer will remain operational only till 9 am on November 17, the day of voting. After this, every voter will be given a special discount of 10 per cent on the bill of poha-jalebi throughout that day," Sharma said.
