The Bharatiya Janata Party has swept the Madhya Pradesh polls. The party has overcome all the prediction of anti-incumbency that was on rise due to unemployment and elevated inflation. This is how BJP successfully rode this anti-incumbency wave landing safely on the shore.
Its strategy to target the women voters has paid off well. Notably, out of the 5.6 crore voters in Madhya Pradesh, 2.7 crore are women. Similarly, out of the 230 assembly constituencies, women outnumber men in 29.
Reacting to the early trends of the poll result, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the 'Ladli Behna Yojana' scheme's role for the landslide victory. "I had said BJP will get a comfortable majority and we are getting it. I give the whole credit to Ladli Behnas for this impressive performance", Shivraj said.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia too lauded the scheme, calling it a game changer. "I express my gratitude to every single person of the state. This is the result of the BJP's double engine government, PM Modi's leadership, guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shahji, and party president JP Naddaji, and welfare schemes implemented by CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan...Ladli Behna scheme is a game-changer and the full credit for it goes to Shivraj Singh Chouhan," Scindia said
<h3>Ladli Behna Yojana</h3>
BJP had set the stage for the assembly elections early in March. Madhya Pradesh's Finance Minister Jadgish Devda introduced the 'Ladli Behna Yojana' in his 2023 Budget speech. The government had allocated Rs 8,000 crore for the scheme. Under this welfare scheme about 12 million women would receive Rs 1,000 every month which will be progressively raised to Rs 3,000. The amount would be credited on the 10th of every month.
&ldquo;This scheme has been started with Rs 1,000 per month, but I will not give only one thousand. The amount will increase gradually,&rdquo; Chouhan said. &ldquo;I will increase it to Rs 1,200 per month and Rs 1,500 per month. As soon as the money is arranged in the coming year, I will increase it to Rs 3,000 per month&rdquo;, he added.
As per Moneycontrol, this was seen as a smart counter-attack against the Congress&rsquo;s poll guarantee of providing Rs 1,500 per month to women if voted to power. The process of accepting the application for the scheme began on 5th March 2023 - Shivraj Singh Chouhan's 65th birthday. While launching the scheme, Chouhan urged women to strengthen their families with the money they got through the program. Women began to get the benefits of the scheme from June 10.
<h3>Eligibility criteria</h3>
Women aged between 23 and 60 years who have less than 5 acres of land or an annual income of less than Rs 2.5 lakhs are eligible to get the benefits of Laadli Behna yojana. They also must be a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
For easy application, the government also formed groups to reach women in every village and ward. Shivraj Singh Chouhan via a post in X (formerly Twitter) mentioned that a team of employees will visit every village and ward of the state and will help the women to fill up the form and there is no need to wander anywhere. For this year, the application closed on April 30

The BJP on Saturday released its manifesto for the November 17 Madhya Pradesh elections promising MSP for wheat at Rs 2,700 per quintal and paddy at Rs 3,100 and houses for beneficiaries of the state&rsquo;s flagship scheme &lsquo;Ladli Bahna&rsquo;. Free education to girls from poor families up to post-graduation, free education to poor students up to Class 12 and cooking gas cylinders at Rs 450 for beneficiaries of Ladli Bahna and &lsquo;PM Ujjwala&rsquo; schemes are among its other highlights.
The 96-page &lsquo;Sankalp Patra&rsquo; (vision document) was released here by BJP president JP Nadda along with the party&rsquo;s state chief VD Sharma, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh and other leaders.
In its manifesto, the BJP has promised a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 2,700 per quintal of wheat and Rs 3,100 for the same quantity of paddy.

It also promises houses for beneficiaries of the Ladli Bahna programme and jobs to at least one member of every family or the opportunity for self-employment.
According to the vision document, the party will set up technological institutes in MP along the lines of IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and medical institutions in a similar way to AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) if the BJP retains power in the state.
It also promises six new expressways and a budget of Rs 3 lakh crore for the empowerment of tribal communities.
Nadda in his address said that BJP is the only political party which has implemented its manifestos in letter and spirit by making it the road map of the government. The BJP also keeps an eye on manifesto implementation through its monitoring system, he said.
State BJP chief VD Sharma said that a committee has prepared the manifesto after discussions and seeking suggestions from all sections and intellectuals of society.
&ldquo;The manifesto includes the aspirations of the people,&rdquo; he said and added that conventions were organised at divisional levels to discuss it.
He said that boxes were kept during the party&rsquo;s &ldquo;11,000-km-long Jan Ashirwad Yatra&rdquo;, a mass-contact programme, in which seven lakh suggestions were received. Many of them were researched and included in the manifesto, he said.
Chouhan said the Congress was wondering why the BJP is bringing out its manifesto on &lsquo;Narak Chaturdashi&rsquo;. &ldquo;The Congress doesn&rsquo;t know mythology and history. It was the day when Krishna freed sisters from Narakasur,&rdquo; he said.
The chief minister said they will make the manifesto the road map for Madhya Pradesh&rsquo;s development. The BJP government has tried to fulfil people's aspirations by implementing all its promises, he added.&nbsp;

Campaigning for the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for his "population control" remark.
"A leader of I.N.D.I Alliance spoke in the assembly in the presence of mothers and sisters in such unimaginable vulgar language. He did not even feel ashamed. But no leader of the arrogant alliance said a single word against it. Can people who think this way about women do anything good for you?" asked PM Modi.
"How low will you (Nitish Kumar) stoop? These people are bringing shame to the country in front of the world," he added.
Meanwhile, Kumar has apologised for his remarks. Earlier, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav defended Kumar saying the CM was talking about sex education.

The Congress has filed a case alleging that a doctored video of Kamal Nath is doing rounds on social media

A criminal case was registered on Monday against an unidentified person for circulating a fake video on social media of Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath's speech to create confusion on the future of the state government's 'Ladli Behna Yojana'.
As per complainant Rakesh Singh Yadav, who is the MP Congress secretary, the video of Nath's speech has been edited in such a way that an unknown person is heard saying "if our Congress government comes to power, we will first stop the Ladli Behna Yojana".
The case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 469 (forgery with intent to harm reputation), section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) 505 (2) (statements conducing public mischief) against the owner of a mobile number, a police official said.
This fake video was broadcast on three Whatsapp groups from a particular mobile number on October 29, complainant Yadav said.
The BJP government started the 'Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana' on June 10, under which eligible women are provided a fixed amount every month.
Assembly polls will be held in MP on November 17, while counting of votes will take place on December 3.
