Former Spanish soccer federation president Luis Rubiales will stand trial on charges of sexual assault and coercion for kissing forward Jenni Hermoso without her consent after last year's Women's World Cup final, a Spanish judge confirmed Wednesday.
Judge Francisco de Jorge had ruled in January that Rubiales' kiss was &ldquo;unconsented and carried out unilaterally and in a surprising fashion.&rdquo; Spanish news agency EFE reported that he has confirmed the charges.
Prosecutors seek a prison sentence of two and a half years for Rubiales for the alleged sexual assault and for allegedly trying to coerce Hermoso to publicly support him amid the public backlash following the World Cup decider in Sydney.
The judge also ruled that former Spain coach Jorge Vilda, the sports director of Spain's men's team, Albert Luque, and the federation's former head of marketing, Rub&eacute;n Rivera, will also stand trial for trying to pressure Hermoso, EFE said.
The judge in January found sufficient evidence to also believe Rubiales also unsuccessfully pressured Hermoso to appear in a video he produced and published while public outroar grew against him.
A trial date has not been set.
FIFA banned Rubiales for three years until after the men's 2026 World Cup. His ban will expire before the next women's tournament in 2027. Spain's sports authority also ruled him unfit to hold a post in sports management for three years.

Atletico Madrid's Alvaro Morata read out a statement on behalf of the entire team congratulating their female counterparts on "a historic" achievement.
He said the men's team "expressed their solidarity with the women players and deplored that their success had been tarnished" by Rubiales at the August 20 prize giving ceremony in Sydney.
Morata added: "We want to denounce the unacceptable behaviour of Mr Rubiales who has not lived up to the institution he represents.
"We are firmly on the side of the values enshrined in sport.
"Spanish football should be the source of respect, inspiration, inclusivity and diversity, and should lead by example in its behaviour both on and off the pitch." 
Hermoso has joined a mass strike of women players, saying she did not consent to the kiss.
Women players' union Futpro, Hermoso and 80 other players have said they would not accept an international call-up "if the current leadership continues" at the RFEF.
Rubiales has stood firm in refusing to stand down from his post "because of a little consensual kiss", provoking widespread indignation.
World football's governing body FIFA has suspended him for 90 days and launched a disciplinary inquiry into his behaviour.

Prosecutors at Spain's top criminal court opened a preliminary investigation on August 28 into Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales' forcible kiss on the lips of World Cup player Jenni Hermoso on grounds it could constitute a crime of "sexual assault".
The Spanish football federation (RFEF) regional presidents then asked the 46-year-old to resign because of his "unacceptable behaviour" and called for "profound and imminent" restructuring of the organisation.
The RFEF statement leaves Rubiales shorn of allies -- some of the regional presidents had been among those who applauded his speech last Friday, in which he insisted he would not resign, and his kiss was "consensual", contested by Hermoso.
Spain's National Court said they had opened a preliminary probe into Rubiales's kiss on Hermoso at the World Cup final in Sydney on August 20, "which could constitute an offence of sexual assault".
They would also contact Hermoso to offer her a chance to file a lawsuit within 15 days, the court statement said.
After Spain won the Women's World Cup Rubiales sparked a massive backlash with his unsolicited kiss during the medal ceremony.
Hermoso later said the incident left her feeling "vulnerable and like the victim of an assault", with a statement on social media describing it as "an impulsive, macho act, out of place and with no type of consent on my part".
The National Court said it was opening the investigation in light of the "unequivocal nature" of her statements, saying it was necessary "to determine their legal significance".
"Given the public statements made by Jennifer Hermoso, the sexual act she was subjected to by (Luis) Rubiales was not consensual," the court statement said.
"In order to proceed with a case for sexual assault, harassment or sexual abuse, it will be necessary for the injured party or their legal representative to file suit."
If Hermoso decides not to file a complaint, it will make it "difficult" for prosecutors to press ahead with the case, legal sources told AFP. World football governing body FIFA provisionally suspended Rubiales for 90 days last week while they open disciplinary proceedings against him -- but the president may have resigned before that if he heeds the request from the RFEF's 19 regional presidents.

This prompted Hermoso and 80 other players to go on strike from national team duty until the "leadership" changes, while the Pachuca player, 33, spoke at length for the first time about the incident.
"The words of Mr. Luis Rubiales explaining the unfortunate incident are categorically false, and part of the manipulative culture that he himself has generated," wrote Hermoso.
"I clarify that in no moment did the conversation happen that (he) referenced, and much less, was the kiss consensual... I want to reiterate, as I did at the time, that this act was not to my liking."
