Congress slams BJP over lotus-printed uniform for Parliament staff

Reports that the new uniforms for the Parliament staff will have a lotus motif has triggered a political row.

The Congress Tuesday accused the BJP of making the "Parliament a one-sided partisan thing" amid reports that the ruling party's poll symbol 'Lotus' is being printed on the new uniform for Parliament staff.
Congress whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore questioned why the 'Lotus' was being added and not a tiger or a peacock, the national animal and the national bird respectively.
"Why lotus only? Why can't a peacock or why can't a tiger? Oh, they're not BJP party election symbol. Why this fall sir Om Birla," Tagore said on X, using the hashtag "#NewDressforParliamentStaff".
A media suggested the Parliament staff will have a new dress code with the Lotus printed on it.
"Why is the government not ready to put Tiger in the Parliament staff's dress, because Tiger is the national animal. Why are they not ready to put the Peacock, which is the national bird, in the dress? But they chose to put the Lotus in the dress code of the Parliamentary staff, because the BJP's symbol is the Lotus," Tagore said in a statement.
"How cheap they are. They did it in G20 also. Now also they are doing it and saying it is the national flower.
"This kind of pettiness is not right. Hope the BJP grows up and not make the Parliament a one-sided partisan thing," he alleged.
Tagore said the Parliament is becoming a part of a party's symbol.
"It is unfortunate. The Parliament was above all parties. It shows that the BJP is interfering in every other institution," he said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, accusing them of trying to "crush" the AAP in the name of fighting corruption as they feared a defeat in Gujarat polls.
Addressing the first-ever national conclave of his party's elected representatives, Kejriwal also alleged that the Modi government has been trying to frame his party ministers and leaders in false corruption cases as the BJP is "not able to digest the growing popularity of the AAP in Gujarat".
The BJP is so rattled by the AAP's growing influence ahead of Gujarat assembly elections that "the prime minister's advisor Hiren Joshi has warned several TV channels owners and their editors not to give coverage to AAP party in Gujarat, threatening them with dire consequences", the party's national convenor alleged.
No immediate reaction to Kejriwal’s charge was immediately available from the PMO or Joshi.
"Stop doing things. If these editors share the screenshots of Joshi's messages, both the prime minister and his advisor will not be in a position to show their faces to the country," Kejriwal said.
"We are going to form a government in Gujarat," he added.
In a veiled attack on the prime minister over his 'revadi culture' remark, Kejriwal said the AAP's freebies are being criticised on the ground that providing free facilities to people will ruin the economy of the country.
"Only a dishonest (person), a corrupt and a traitor will say freebies are not good for the country. If any politician says freebies will ruin the country's economy, consider his intentions are wrong." Kejriwal said.

AAP, BJP to meet President Murmu over ‘operation lotus’ allegations
 

Two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accepted its complaint against the BJP’s alleged attempts to topple governments in various states, the Aam Aadmi Party has sought time from President Droupadi Murmu to apprise her about BJP's 'Operation Lotus'.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have also sought President&rsquo;s time in the matter. &nbsp;A delegation of saffron party leaders will be meeting President Droupadi Murmu on September 6, 2022 to demand the dismissal of the AAP government over a host of issues, including allegations of corruption against its ministers.
On Wednesday, a 10-member delegation of the AAP MLAs including Atishi went to meet CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal to demand a probe into BJP's alleged attempts to topple other parties' governments in the state even though his office had not given any response to their request for the meeting.
As they were not allowed to enter the CBI headquarters, the AAP legislators sat on a dharna outside in protest.
Amid the agitation, some CBI officials took AAP's chief whip in Delhi Assembly Dilip K Pandey and Kalkaji MLA Atishi inside the agency premises to lodge their complaint
The AAP leaders claimed that the BJP has bought a total of 277 MLAs of other parties to topple their governments so far under 'Operation Lotus' and spent "an estimated Rs 6,300 crore" for it while demanding a CBI probe into it.
The political temperature in the national capital has been soaring after AAP alleged poaching of MLAs by BJP while the saffron party brushed off the charges and blamed the Arvind Kejriwal-led party for playing dirty politics.&nbsp;

In South Asian culture, lotus roots and seeds have been used for many medicinal and culinary purposes. The Greeks coined the term for lotophagus for people in other parts of the world hooked to lotus products.
Lotus products are believed to help skin glow, boost brain health, increase energy, aid digestion and help in weight management, improve cardiovascular health, and also boost immunity.

A 27-year-old woman in Manipur's Bishnupur has started a unique venture by spinning yarn from the stalk of lotus flowers.
After the pandemic snatched livelihoods of many, she decided to involve women in her village to help them earn money at home.
Bijayashanti Tongbram has requested the government for funds so she can maintain her farm. She has also contacted other entrepreneurs to market her produce.
A single necktie made of lotus yarn, she says, would cost $100 or approximately ₹7000. Clothes made of lotus yarn are known to have medicinal value.
